Golden Holiday Korean Movie Review

I just finished the second season of boardwalk empire which had a plot twist i didn't quite expect so i said to myself, why i don't celebrate this? In order to do so, i had to either watch an anime or a movie.

For all the anime lovers out there, the season just started so thank me later. I decided to go with the Korean movie. As i have said before i really like Korean cinema and have watched most of the "must" films. So now occasionally i just watch random Korean movies with English subs ofc without having a lot of expectations to be honest.

A while ago i watched The Golden Holiday which i am about to review now! A fresh review straight of the oven in my head is coming up!

The Golden Holiday is a 2020 action-comedy movie directed and written by Bong-han Kim. The main star of the show is Do-won Kwak a famous Korean actor, known for the wailing.

The movie starts with Officer Hong Byung-Soo (Do-won Kwak) who is a cop at the Daecheon Police Station. He has taken a few bribes in his life and he was also a boxer. He now owns money and that's become his close friend took his money for an "investment" and left the country.

At the same time, his family wants desperately to go on vacation to another country because have never been abroad. They decide to go to the Philippines in where Officer's Hong friend that took his money is.

While in there Officer Hong is framed for a murder by a crime lord called Patrick. He along with his old friend will try to get out of this mess and save his life. Things are more complicated though, as his old friend says to him that he had found the hidden treasure full of gold that they searched for years.

The acting, as usual, is great and that's something that we need to always take into account before everything else. Even the bad guy is played by an actor that I have seen in other Korean movies portraying soft guys and he is transforming to the role with ease. I also, laugh it was indeed a comedy and the action scenes were great and funny at the same time. Especially the 2 guys that were hired as bodyguards were hilarious.

Now let's get to the things that i didn't like starting with the plot. The plot it's not something amazing, you can expect mostly everything that's going and that's going to happen. Also, although i may laugh, it was only on certain moments so that's not good for a comedy i humbly think.

Also, most of the setup is in the Philippines and i dare to say i didn't "see" much of the country which would be very cool especially these pandemic times. All in all, it's a movie that you can watch to kill time but there are countless better ones to watch, so i wouldn't recommend it except if you run out of options! It's not a bad movie but it's not great as well, it's a waste of talented actors i would say.
