It is about time for another awesome Anime Review
Get ready!
General Info
Golden Kamuy is 12 episodes action-adventure anime with doses oh history and mystery. It was aired at Apr 9 2018 and next week it will be the final episode of the first season. Still we don't know if it's gonna be a second one but i hope it will.
The studio behind it, is called Geno Studio and isn't a very well known one (at least i didn't know it). It also seems to have very few anime under it's resume and probably if there is a case to know one it will be Golden Kamuy or Kokkuku. Because i had watched a couple of episodes of Kokkuku too i can tell you that the ''key'' signature of Geno studio is merging CGI with normal anime graphics. The result isn't completely bad but to be fair it isn't good either. It would have been better at least for Golden Kamuy to keep it away but you only live once. In general the graphics are decent but not amazing. I hope it grow and become an even better studio, for sure it has the potential to do so.
Plot
The story starts with Saichi Sugimoto or as they call him Immortal Sugimoto a veteran soldier that survived the Russo-Japanese war that was badass enough to stay alive no matter what happened in the battlefield. As you all know or may have heard, war forges some great friendships and like that Sugimoto and a childhood friend of his came more close. Before he died, his friend made him promise to look after his wife so now Sugimoto tries to find the money to do that.
In the first episode Sugimoto and us get to learn and old story from and old drunk man about a a person that killed a couple of Ainu men and stole their gold. After that he hid it in Hokkaido and got arrested by the police/army (whatever it was called back then). In prison that man came close to the other death-row inmates and drew on each one of them a part of the map that leads to the gold. The prisoners got out and so there is a chance for everyone to find that gold. That was the tale.
At the meantime Sugimoto take a better glance at that old man and realize that in his body there is the tattooed map so he tries to get him but a bear already kills and take the old man. In his search to find the bear and the dead body he come a across a young Ainu girl that's called Asirpa and due to having goals that both lead in finding those gold they start a journey together.

Why it's Worth It?
To tell you the truth that anime is really underrated but life isn't fair. Except the fact that plot is amazing, just imagine it a bit. They have to hunt death-row prisoners down and skin them to obtain a piece of the map. Should i say it again
Death Row Inmates + Skin them
Aside from that, as you can guess it has action finding, fighting and killing these inmates and mystery as well. We literally know nothing about who that person that stole the gold exactly is, who the criminals are and what's they backstories and ofc we have no clue as to where the map pieces are. At the same time there are others that try to find that gold so it's not just Sugimoto and Asirpa vs the ex prisoners but everyone against everyone.
Another reason i really really like this anime is the Ainu. Do you know who Ainu are?
Exactly me neither, but after that anime and a little bit of search i learned that they are a marginalized ethnicity in Japan. They are indigenous people of Japan and Russia with large bearded men and women with mouth tattoos (how cool is that?). Nowadays it is estimated to be around 25.000 in Japan but actually there are about 200.000 that don't know where they come from and about 1000 in Russia.
In the anime not only we are introduced to the Ainu but we get to learn a lot of accurate information about their history and culture. By that i literally mean everything from what their diet was. how did they hunt, how did they made their clothes and lot more. Mostly in no other anime Ainu are introduced and so much info is coming to us so that uplifts the anime even more.

Gore Scenes
Finally a lot of the scenes are hardcore and badass. Dead animals, dead people from the Russo-Japanese war, Bears that destroy humans with their strength and a lot lot more. A fun fact it that in a comment i read that this is nothing compared to manga so i had to check it out and went to the same scene and ohh god, the manga is ten times more brutal.
Will It Be A Season 2?
I have no idea, but it has 7.56/10 in myanimelist and from what i have seen now i would give and 8 too. The fans are crazy and loyal but in the anime industry all that they care are numbers and thus money so i don't really see a second season. I hope there will be because even though it's not on the top list of anime for that season it's not in the last either. All in All i will definitely check the manga after the next week's episode and if you like the anime i suggest you do the same too!
