Hello my dear friends… Just few days ago, me and my husband went to the cinema because we had nothing else to do. Being in Ramadhan kind of limiting our activity option, especially when the weather is excruciatingly hot. What else we can do other than embracing the comfort cinema can offer us. Well, at the time there was not many choices available since my husband and i often visited cinema to watch some movies. The two movies we didnt watch yet is The Pope Exorcist and Waktu Maghrib, both of them are horror movies. Out of the two choices, we choose to watch The Pope Exorcist because we already watch the trailer before, its looks interesting to watch a point of view of the pope when it came to exorcist.

The movie is about a chief exorcist whom fighting againts a great demon Asmodeus. I think that he called the demon as an evil. The exorcist said that this Asmodeus is a powerful demon that was in different level compared to other demon. In the beginning of the movie, the demon that possesed a man cant even tell the exorcist what is his name, thats because he doesnt know. Apparently, the more powerful the demon are the greater access they have, so this Asmodeus can know people names, people sin, people worry, and everything. This great demon possesed a child whom had a lot of trauma. The reason why he possessed this child is because he wants to posses the body of chief exorcist. Its a little bit confusing but its the main story line of the movie. There’s a great demon Asmodeus possesing a boy, chief exorcist try to exorcist the demon, Asmodeus try to take over chief exorcist body, chief exorcist fight back even after letting the demon inside of him and win with the help of Father Esquibel.

Now, i am gonna share my thoughts, questions, and everything else about this movie.
Acting
I was the most impressed by Henry’s acting. He was so good in act as a boy getting possesed by a demon. He was so creepy to the point that if he was in front of me while looking like that i will slap his face and cover his face with everything i got on hands because all i want is to not look at his face, i mean just look at those teeth. I think when he was talking as a demon, they dubbed his voice to a older man’ voice because i can see that sometimes the timing is a little bit off. Maybe, they also played the older man’s voice in the shooting scenes and make the boy to try mimicking the words and pronounciation as best as possible because in my opinion his lips movements were quite awkward. Those are little things that i kind of noticed and since his acting was so good, it doesnt bother me at all.

Supranatural
I have so many unanswered questions. I dont understand what makes Father Amorth was so special to the point that he can defeated such a strong demon while this demon can almost kill the pope even when he was so far away from the pope. This demon is also so strong because he killed so many great exorcist in the past. Dont get me wrong, i am sure the real Father Amorth is special, but honestly i dont see it in this movie. His power looks and feels mediocre. What makes him better than the other great exorcist? Maybe its because of the limited things they can pour from the real Father Amorth into such a short less than 2 hours movie. Maybe, the director lacks the knowledge of exorcism so he cant conveyed the feeling i want to feel when it comes to this kind of movie. I want to feel that this human is superior than demon, because God creates us as His most special creature, we are guarded by angels and adored by God. Eventhough the Father Amorth won the battle, i dont feel the superiority of human in there. If i must show what is the example of superiority feeling i crave, maybe the movie Constantine is closer to that than this. The movie is good but the ending is dissappointing because it feels empty.

The “Horror”
I am loving this type of horror movie where they dont give up jumpscare here and there and showed us ghost. I always prefered this type of horror because it can make me feel scared while keep my eyes on the screen. In contrary, i tend to look away when the ghost is scary and ugly. I believe that we can presenting the horror without cheap jumpscare. One thing i kind of regretted is that we never saw the real shape of Asmodeus in this. It makes me wonder if even Father Amorth cant see the real face or shape of Asmodeus. Since this movie is based off Father Amorth point of view, i wonder if he deliberatedly didnt let us know, he really doesnt know, or the movie just cant projecting them.

I am not a Christian so i dont have any knowledge about the exorcism in Christianity and that is one of the main reason why we choose to watch this movie. I want to see if its based on a real person’ story, will the method will be similar with what we have in my religion? I am happy that i got the answer. The answer is yes in many aspect. I love that they teach us to believe in God’s mercy and love. If we’re making mistake, just truly repent and ask forgiveness from God then he might erase the sin of the mistake we make, and the most important thing is to trust God’s name. Not only for the exorcist, even for us, its really important to pray to God while be very sure in every words you speak. That is how to talk, ask, beg, from God. We should says, “God is the Most almighty” with every fiber in our being sure of that words, because only then that our words can be the best weapon a human could ever have.
