Hello Hivers! I am pleased to be here again. Today with a review of another film adaptation based on a novel, which I had the pleasure of seeing in a movie theater almost five years ago.
When I was given this novel as a gift I forgot it in a corner of my room because according to me, it was another adolescent work and I was old enough for that. But I was pleasantly pleased with the story, because I felt identified with the sexual discovery that the protagonist has and because it also left me in confrontation with my own social perceptions that I thought I had.
A very nice story, although perhaps there were many changes in the adaptation but nothing is completely perfect, I still celebrated and continue to celebrate that it was the first LGTBIQ+ teen movie made by a major film company.
Nice memories come to my mind of the screening of this film in theaters, I thought it was going to have a negative reception especially in a country as homophobic and conservative as Venezuela, but I was surprised to see children around me and people of all ages, tastes and colors enjoying this love story that is for all audiences.
I'm afraid I'm spreading myself too thin, so let's discover this story with a bigger message than the label "Teenager".

Hola amigos Hivers me complace estar de nuevo por aquí. Hoy con una reseña acerca de otra adaptación cinematográfica basada en una novela, que tuve el placer de ver en una sala de cine hace casi un lustro.
Cuando me obsequiaron está novela la olvide en un rincón de mi cuarto porque según yo, era otra obra adolescente y yo ya estaba suficientemente grande como para eso. Pero me quedé gratamente complacido con la historia, porque me sentí identificado con el descubrimiento sexual que tiene el protagonista y porque también me dejó en confrontación con los propias percepciones sociales que yo creía tener.
Una historia muy bonita, aunque quizás hubieron muchos cambios en la adaptación pero bueno nada es completamente perfecto, aún asi celebré y sigo celebrando que haya sido la primera película adolescente LGTBIQ+ realizada por una gran compañía de cine.
Recuerdos bonitos vienen a mí mente de la proyección de este film en las salas de cine, creí que iba a tener una recepción negativa sobre todo en un país tan homofóbico y conservador como Venezuela, pero me sorprendió ver niños a mí alrededor y gente de todas las edades, gustos y colores disfrutar de esta historia de amor que es para todo público.
Me temo que me estoy extendiendo demasiado, así que vamos a descubrir esta historia con un mensaje más grande que la etiqueta "Adolescente".

Love, Simon is a 2018 film released by 20th Century Fox film company and directed by Greg Berlanti and based on the 2015 novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by author Becky Albertalli. It has approximately one hour of duration and the participation of different figures among which Nick Robinson, Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Garner stand out.
The screenplays were written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, while John Guleserian was in charge of the photography.
The soundtrack was directed by Rob Simonsen and features songs by artists such as Troye Sivan, Kalid, Jackson 5, Normani and an excellent tribute to Pop diva Whitney Houston.

Love Simon o Con Amor, Simón en Latinoamérica es una película de estrenada en 2018 por la compañía cinematográfica 20th Century Fox y dirigida por Greg Berlanti y basada en la novela de 2015 Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda de la autora Becky Albertalli. Cuenta con aproximadamente una hora de duración y la participación de diferentes figuras entre los cuales destacan Nick Robinson, Josh Duhamel y Jennifer Garner.

Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) is a teenager who has not yet accepted his homosexuality, still lives with his parents Emily (Jennifer Garner), Jack (), and his little sister Sara (Talitha Bateman). The high school is surprised by the anonymous confession of one of their students about his sexuality so Simon and his friends Nick (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), Leah (Katherine Langford) and newcomer Abby Suso (Alexandra Shipp) will get into a lot of trouble and games that will make them all get to know each other better in the end.
Simon starts corresponding with the anonymous guy at his school who uses the alias blue telling personal secrets to the latter. Simon ends up suspecting many of his classmates especially Abraham "Bram" Greenfeld (Keiynan Lonsdale) but ends up finding him making out with a girl. On the other hand, a guy named Martin finds Simon's messages with Blue and blackmails Simon to introduce him to a girl he likes. There the problems begin because Simon will get involved in a web of lies involving his loved ones just to protect his sexual identity.
Things will get better and in the end Simon will meet the anonymous character confronting himself and his perceptions about physical beauty.

Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) es un adolescente que todavía no ha aceptado su homosexualidad, vive aún junto a sus padres Emily (Jennifer Garner), Jack (), y su hermanita Sara (Talitha Bateman). La secundaria se sorprende con la confesión anónima de uno de sus estudiantes acerca de su sexualidad por lo que Simon y sus amigos Nick (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), Leah (Katherine Langford) y la recién llegada Abby Suso (Alexandra Shipp) se meterán en un montón de líos y juegos que harán que al final todos se conozcan más.
Simon comienza a escribirse con el anónimo en su escuela que usa el alias de blue contando secretos personales a este último. Simon termina sospechando de muchos de sus compañeros sobretodo de Abraham "Bram" Greenfeld (Keiynan Lonsdale) pero termina encontrándolo besándose con una chica. Por otra parte un chico llamado Martin encuentra los mensajes de Simon con Blue y chantajea a Simon para que le presente a una chica que le gusta. Allí comienzan los problemas porque Simon se envolverá en una red de mentiras que involucran a sus seres más queridos solo por proteger su identidad sexual.
Las cosas mejoraran y al final Simon conocerá al personaje anónimo enfrentándose a sí mismo y a sus percepciones acerca de la belleza física.
𝕸𝖞 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖔𝖓
The first thing that seduced me about this movie was definitely having read the novel before, I was sure that I was going to find an adaptation that did justice to the story, however I was a little disappointed that the director changed so many things that seemed unnecessary. First of all, no one asked for Leah to be secretly in love with Simon, probably because that didn't exist in the book.
I found many changes absurd but I have to accept that this is the open approach and no threats to morals that make homosexuality become normal, and that I now that I am an adult, I am supposed to assume that maybe this kind of content is not meant for me, but for the hundreds of teens in the closet like Simon and their families. That's key to analyze because the movie is very pink and light.
Quite conservative too since it is a movie about a gay teenager coming out of the closet with no violence and a lot of social acceptance something is clear and that is that it is not always like that and I wish at that point the story would have been better. I have to admit that there is an audience that needed this movie, and it's great that they have it but I think it should also teach them that not everything is always rosy.
For example Simon has a role model in his high school in a gay black kid named Ethan (Clark Moore), who came out of the closet 2 years ago and has been bravely enduring all the bullying you can imagine in his high school, but it's not treated as much as I hoped it would be treated so Love, Simon, as encouraging and well intentioned as it is, fails in that regard.
𝕸𝖎 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎ó𝖓
Lo primero que me sedujo de esta película fue definitivamente haber leído antes la novela estaba seguro que me iba a encontrar con una adaptación que le hiciera justicia a la historia sin embargo me decepciono un poco que el director haya cambiado tantas cosas que me parecieron innecesarias. En primer nadie pidió que Leah estuviera enamorada en secreto de Simon, seguramente porque eso en el libro no existió.
Me parecieron absurdos muchos cambios pero debo aceptar que este es el enfoque abierto y sin amenazas para la moral que hacen que la homosexualidad se convierta en algo normal, y que yo ahora que soy adulto, se supone que debo asumir que quizás este tipo de contenido no está destinado a mí, sino a los cientos de adolescentes en el armario como Simon y sus familias. Eso es clave analizarlo porque la película es muy rosa y ligera.
Bastante conservadora también ya que es una película sobre un adolescente gay que sale del armario con nada de violencia y mucha aceptación social algo está claro y es que no siempre es así y ojala en ese punto la historia hubiera sido mejor. Eso si hay que admitir que hay un público que necesitaba esta película, y es genial que la tengan pero creo que también se debe ensenar a que no siempre todo es color de rosa.
Por ejemplo Simon tiene un modelo en su secundaria en un chico negro gay llamado Ethan (Clark Moore), que salió del closet hace 2 y ha estado soportando con valentía todo el bullying que puedas imaginar en su secundaria, pero no se trata tanto como espere que se tratara así que Love, Simon, por muy alentadora y bien intencionada que sea, fallo en ese aspecto.
However there are many redeemable things one of them is the theme of being in the closet as sexuality is a valuable source of information. Love Simon also talks about friendship, integrity and a handful of lessons that will surely pay off.
But as a gay guy I can't get around the fact that Love, Simon puts me in an uncomfortable position, I can't review it like I would any other movie; I have to review it from my perspective as a gay guy talking about an LGTBIQ+ movie. It's great that stories like these are being given a place beyond the mistakes that are always going to depend on our perspectives. I think after Brokeback Mountain in 2005 no studio took a chance on bringing a gay drama to the screen, it took years for films like Moonlight or Call By Your name to come out, so it's okay for the new generations.
But I can't forget films like Bound, Poison, The Watermelon Woman, Paris Is Burning and My Own Private Idaho, much of the world doesn't know about these great productions but they are there being recognized by a historically forgotten community. That's why I think Love, Simon was a good start, maybe not the one I was hoping for but something for all audiences and for the whole family.
Sin embargo hay muchas cosas rescatables una de ellas es el tema de estar en el closet ya que la sexualidad es una valiosa fuente de información. Love Simon también habla sobre la amistad, la integridad y un puñado de lecciones que seguramente tendrán sus frutos.
Pero como gay no puedo eludir el hecho de que Love, Simon me pone en una posición incómoda, no puedo hacer una reseña como la que haría con cualquier otra película; tengo que hacerla desde mi perspectiva como un chico gay que habla de una película LGTBIQ+. Es genial que se le dé cabida a historias como estas más allá de los errores que siempre van a depender de nuestras perspectivas. Creo que después de Brokeback Mountain en 2005 ningún estudio se arriesgó a llevar a la pantalla un drama gay, tardaron años en salir películas como Moonlight o Call By Your name, así que está bien para las nuevas generaciones.
Pero no puedo olvidar películas como Bound, Poison, The Watermelon Woman, Paris Is Burning y My Own Private Idaho, gran parte del mundo no conoce estas grandes producciones pero están ahí siendo reconocidas por una comunidad históricamente olvidada. Por eso creo Love, Simon fue un buen comienzo quizás no el que esperaba pero si algo para todo público y para toda la familia.
A year ago a series was released with more diverse and inclusive characters inspired by this movie called Love, Victor so I'm sure the story is far from over. Either way you guys can enjoy this movie it is great and has a great cast everyone is perfect. My rating for this movie is 7.5/10.
Hace un año fue estrenada una serie con personajes más diversos e inclusivos inspirada en esta película que lleva por nombre Love, Victor así que estoy seguro que la historia está lejos de terminar. Sea como sea ustedes pueden disfrutar de esta película es grandiosa y tiene un gran reparto todos están perfectos. Mi puntuación para esta película es de 7.5/10.
