La película se centra en la historia de Scarlett Marlow, una talentosa arqueóloga poseedora de varios doctorados, que esta en busca de uno de los misterios más grandes, la piedra filosofal, si, la misma que salia en Harry Potter, que al parecer en esta película, se encuentra sumamente oculta a los ojos del mundo por intrincados acertijos que deben resolverse si es que se quiere llegar al codiciado objeto, Scarllet descubre la clave que la puede llevar por fin a lugar donde se encuentra la potente piedra, que no es otro que las catacumbas de París, un lugar en el que se estima que hay 6 millones de personas enterradas desde hace siglos, pero esto no intimida a nuestra aventurera, que reúne a un modesto equipo de que experimentará lo que es adentrarse en los claustrofobicos pasillos que estarán repletos de experiencias paranormales.

As Above, So Below tiene unos primeros minutos muy interesantes colocándonos en situación para posteriormente ir diluyéndose en las explicaciones de la piedra filosofal, la historia de la misma, la historia de las catacumbas, la necesidad de encontrar un grupo que sea sacrificado los guie en tan complejas cavernas y en pocas palabras, dejándote bastante aburrido con tan pocos eventos que te coloquen en tensión, hay algunas "apariciones" que se entienden como paranormales pero no están hechas con la intención de asustar, si no más bien como un aviso nada sutil de lo que trata la película más adelante, en este sentido, podríamos decir que la película es una decepción en toda norma, porque aunque entiendo que es necesario hacer una construcción del terror y el miedo para que funcione adecuadamente, aquí la verdad me parece muy lento, algo que pasa mucho en películas que pertenecen a este mismo subgénero, y no estaría escribiendo esta mini reseña, si no fuera porque hay cosas que la destacan de manera excelente por encima de otras obras que he visto.

Una de las cosas que me gustaron muchísimo es las continuas referencias al purgatorio, al uso constante de mitologías de todos los tipos habidos y por haber y esta especie de ambiente claustrofobico con pésima iluminación que te hace estar atento a cada esquina cuando ya los personajes están muy profundo en las cavernas, que hablando de protagonistas, un gran acierto el personaje principal, una chica que va a por todas por sus objetivos, determinada y que es la más trata de llevar el control de la situación pese a que el terror la saben superar en ocasiones, veo a esta chica, y es imposible no acordarme de las aventuras de Indiana Jones luchando contra nazis por tesoros bíblicos perdidos en el tiempo y esto se parece mucho en ese sentido, solo que cambiamos los géneros y los tesoros por una piedra que hace milagros en pocas palabras, no sin antes pasar por todo lo que se vio en la divina comedia, con los niveles de los infiernos para cada pecador, y una especie de camino para arrepentirse de los pecados, con el fin de abandonar el plano paranormal y volver al mundo de los vivos, hay muchas ideas interesantes aquí, se bien, no todas están ejecutadas de manera espectacular, si es una rareza encontrar todo este paquete junto en una película de a penas hora y media
One of the things that I really liked is the continuous references to purgatory, the constant use of mythologies of all kinds and this kind of claustrophobic environment with bad lighting that makes you be attentive to every corner when the characters are already deep in the caves, speaking of protagonists, a great success the main character, a girl who goes all out for her goals, determined and that is the most tries to take control of the situation despite the fact that the situations of terror know how to overcome it as is common, I see this girl, and it is impossible not to remember the adventures of Indiana Jones fighting against Nazis for biblical treasures lost in time and this is very similar in that sense, only that we change the genres and the treasures for a stone that works miracles in a few words, not without first going through everything that was seen in the divine comedy, with the levels of hell for each sinner, and a kind of path to repent of sins, in order to leave the paranormal plane and return to the world of the living, there are many interesting ideas here, well, not all are executed in a spectacular way, it is a rarity to find all this package together in a movie of barely an hour and a half.

Creo que si solo evaluamos el terror nada mas de esta obra, vamos a encontrar una tremenda decepción porque el suspenso no es algo que lleva muy la película hasta mucho más adelante, tampoco da mucha sorpresas argumentalmente, los que tiene que morir, se mueren y los que sobreviven, logran volver a la realidad, muy simple, tanto que pareciera que ya hemos visto esto varias veces, no obstante, la idea de estar de estar en una especie de limbo claustrofobico con potencial para recordarte tus culpas más atadas a tu corazón es algo muy a lo Silent Hill, y todo lo que se parezca a Silent Hill en el terror tiene mi aprobación , me hubiese gustado que fueran más espectaculares para explorar los niveles del descenso al infierno, o que el manejo de de cámara hubiese sido distinto porque como en normal, pocas veces se puede apreciar en detalle cuales son los entes que persiguen al grupo protagonista, en fin, creo que se tuvieron buenas bases para poder crear una historia con un mejor potencial, pero que lamentablemente se vio afectada por los mismos cliches de siempre, algunos sin sentidos que no tienen como justificarse, entre otras muchas cosas, pero pese a todo, me gusto lo que se mostró en As Above, So Below, aunque pudo ser mejor, de eso no tengo dudas.

Se que todo lo que he escrito no es muy motivador para sentarse a ver la película, pero en su día, a mi encanto todo lo que mostraron en esta obra, creo que podría recomendarla si tienes las expectativas bajas, es interesante a su manera y más que los misterios personales de los protagonista,s uno se interesa mas es por el ambiente reinante en donde se encuentran estos mismos, que les hace ganar puntos como película de terror, pero en la otra cara de la moneda, es predecible casi todo lo que pasa, y hasta aburrida con los minutos que van pasando, también tiene un par de screamers algo ridiculos y más alla de la mitología entre otras cosas interesantes, se siente como potencial que pudo haber sido aprovechado de mejor manera, pese a todo, si no tienes nada más que, te diría que te la vieras, ademas no es muy larga, cosas que se agradece.
