No tienen idea de la cantidad de veces que he estado posponiendo ver esta serie, creo que más de 10 veces me he sentado, he visto los primeros minutos del primer capítulo y lo he dejado, ya que sabía a lo que me iba a enfrentar, sin embargo, luego de mucho tiempo, por fin empecé a ver ese despropósito de adaptación de uno de los mejores anime de todos los tiempos y mi anime favorito. Cuando anunciaron esta adaptación de Cowboy Bebop, tengo que admitir que mis esperanzas estaban a un 30%, porque a diferencia de otros animes del genero Shonen, Cowboy Bebop es mucho más “fácil” de adaptar a Live Action y mucho más factible debido a su universo, trama y estética, es decir, podrían haber hecho algo similar a Guardianes de la Galaxia, ya que estos dos productos son “similares” en términos de que son personajes que van viajando por el espacio y viviendo “aventuras”. Sin embargo, el resto del % estaba en contra de esta adaptación, especialmente porque quien estaba a cargo de realizarla era nada más y nada menos que Netflix, y esta empresa no está bien vista con respecto a este tipo de productos, tan solo hay que ver lo que hizo con Death Note y más reciente con Resident Evil, todos estos resultaron ser productos basuras que se alejan demasiado del producto original. Sin embargo, en lo que realmente no me pareció tan mal fue el casting de los 3 personajes principales: Spike, Jet y Faye, ya que para ser un producto de Netflix estos actores realmente son parecidos a sus contrapartes animadas en cuanto a apariencia, pero en cuanto a personalidad son un poco diferentes aunque no mucho.
Algo que me hizo subir el % de que creer que quizás este producto podría haber sido algo “bueno”, es que usaron toda la banda sonora original del anime y para aquellos que hayan visto Cowboy Bebop sabe que esta banda sonora es una de las mejores que hay, sin ningún tipo de duda, es por eso que al enterarme de que sería la misma banda sonora, eso me alegro, pero al ver el primer capítulo sabía que las cosas se vendrían cuesta abajo, no solo porque cambiaron mucho a comparación con lo visto al primer capítulo del anime, que puedo entender que cambien ciertos aspectos para adaptarlo a Live Action y además porque al tener 10 capítulos a diferencia del anime que son 25, habría que cambiar ciertas cosas, pero cada 40-50 minutos que dura el capítulo de Cowboy Bebop Live Action es una tortura.
El primer capítulo del anime de Cowboy Bebop esta excelentemente presentado, nos muestran la interacción de Spike y Jet desde el inicio, sus personalidades y planes, además nos dan una pequeña pista del pasado de Spike, el cual es uno de los más interesantes junto con el pasado de Faye. Con respecto al primer capítulo del Live Action, sigue de manera libre aunque similar los hechos ocurridos con respecto al anime, sin embargo, el desenlace, el cual en el anime es bastante triste e impactante, en el Live Action no lo es, especialmente porque introducen Faye de manera arbitraria y sin ninguna necesidad y sentido.
En el anime se nos presentan a estos dos personajes, una pareja conformada por Asimov y Katerina, ellos se encuentran huyendo con un montón de droga robada de la “mafia” para así viajar a otro planeta y vivir plenamente y feliz. El anime se encarga de reflejar la desesperación, miedo y furia que tiene Asimov, tanto por todo lo que está pasando, así también por consumir droga, Katerina quiere irse con su pareja a vivir feliz, sin embargo, a medida que avanza ese capítulo y mientras Spike los persigue y tiene algunos enfrentamientos contra Asimov, la historia de esta pareja le hace recordar a Spike a su antiguo amor: Julia (que ya hablare de ella en un momento), llegado a cierto punto del capítulo, Spike los persigue por el espacio, mientras que un iracundo y aún más loco Asimov quiere cruzar la frontera inter-espacial a pesar de que está siendo bloqueado por la policía, ante esta situación de ver a su pareja totalmente desquiciada y al desconocerlo totalmente por su actitud, y tambien al verse totalmente acorrallados, Katerina decide matar a Asimov en ese momento, mientras que por otra parte, la policía los empieza a disparar en la nave donde viajaban esta pareja, muriendo igualmente Katerina en el lugar. Esta escena la primera vez que la vi me impacto y fue el punto que me hizo continuar con esta serie. En el Live Action, sin embargo, a pesar de que sigue en cierta medida lo acontecido en el anime, tiene ciertos detalles que lo hacen aburrido e insípido. El primer punto es que en el Live Action no logran reflejar esa locura y desesperación de Asimov, mucho menos tienen una pelea tan buena contra Spike al igual que en el anime (De hecho las coreografías de peleas en este Live Action son patéticas), pero el peor detalle con respecto a esta adaptación es que a diferencia del anime quien es la propia Katerina quien se encargar de matar a Asimov, en el Live Action de repente aparece Faye, sin ningún motivo. En la primera ocasión que aparece en este primer capítulo hace que Asimov y Katernia escapen, sin embargo en su segunda aparición es ella quien dispara mortalmente a Asimov y aunque logran escapar nuevamente al igual que en el anime, Spike los persigue en la nave a través del espacio y la policía dispara la nave donde iban Asimov y Katerina, no es ella quien lo mata al final (Katerina), sino que antes de que la policía les empezara a disparar, Asimov ya había muerto por el disparo de Faye, cambiando totalmente una escena bastante impactante en el anime para introducir a Faye en este primer capítulo de la nada, siendo totalmente innecesario.
Hace un momento mencione a Julia, un personaje muy importante en la vida de Spike, fue su gran amor en el pasado cuando era miembro de la mafia, hasta su separación debido a un enfrentamiento con Vicius (villano principal de Cowboy Bebop y antiguo compañero de Spike). Julia es un personaje que se nos presenta en principio mediante flashback, en memorias de Spike y se nos muestra como estos se fueron enamorando a pesar de que ella era la pareja de Vicius, la relación entre ella y Spike era en secreto. En todo el anime de Cowboy Bebop fueron muy pocas veces que ella aparece, pero cuando lo hace es porque son momentos muy importantes y representativos del anime, sin embargo en el Live Action aparece a cada rato, ocupando una sub-trama con Vicius totalmente innecesaria, deja de lado el impacto y simbolismo de la Julia del anime cuando aparece por primera vez ante Spike luego de tantos años sin verse. En el Live Action hacen todo lo contrario haciendo que aparezca casi en todos los capítulos innecesariamente, el misterio de este personaje se pierde totalmente en esta adaptación. Y si de perdidas hablamos, Vicius, el cual es un personaje que en el anime es metódico, calculador e incluso aterrador, en el Live Action es totalmente lo contrario, ya que la mala interpretación del actor además de ser mala, es sobreactuada, este Vicius es todo lo contrario a su version del anime, esta version es simplemente un niño grande con problemas de ira y siempre hace caras estúpidas cada vez que escucha sobre Spike, es como si los guionistas de este Live Action se reunieron y decidieron hacer a este personaje tan emblemático del anime y volverlo un niño estúpido con problemas de ira. Nada de la epicidad del Vicius del anime esta en este personaje, de hecho, no se parece en nada.
Realmente Cowboy Bebop Live Action era un producto destinado al fracaso, no solo por las libertades creativas que se tomaron, que quizás estas “libertades” no hubiesen sido un fracaso si al menos hubiesen respetado lo que representaba el anime, no solo con los diálogos que hay en el anime, sino también con el simbolismo que hay en sus imágenes y escenas. Nada de esto tiene esta adaptación. Y como dice el título, lo único bueno de esta serie es su banda sonora. No vean esta porquería y vean mejor su version original. Por suerte esta adaptación fue cancelada (para nada sorprendente). Cowboy Bebop Live Action se une al cumulo de basura llamado “adaptaciones fallidas de videojuegos y anime”, donde se encuentran las más recientes adaptaciones de Resident Evil (incluso las primeras películas son mejores), Dragon Ball Evolution, Death Note y en el futuro se unirán la adaptación de “Caballeros del Zodiaco” y mi querido One Piece, poca esperanza tengo sobre estas próximas adaptaciones debido a la mala fama de Netflix, que espero que algún día entiendan que hay animes que no se pueden adaptar a Live Action debido a como son, pero hay otros como Cowboy Bebop que si se pueden adaptar, siempre y cuando respeten al producto original.
You have no idea how many times I have been postponing watching this series, I think more than 10 times I have sat down, watched the first minutes of the first episode and left it, since I knew what I was going to face, however, after a long time, I finally started watching this nonsense adaptation of one of the best anime of all times and my favorite anime. When they announced this adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, I have to admit that my hopes were at 30%, because unlike other anime of the Shonen genre, Cowboy Bebop is much "easier" to adapt to Live Action and much more feasible due to its universe, plot and aesthetics, that is, they could have done something similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, since these two products are "similar" in terms that they are characters that go traveling through space and living "adventures". However, the rest of the % was against this adaptation, especially because who was in charge of making it was none other than Netflix, and this company is not well regarded with respect to this type of products, just look at what they did with Death Note and more recently with Resident Evil, all of these turned out to be garbage products that stray too far from the original product. However, what I really didn't think was too bad was the casting of the 3 main characters: Spike, Jet and Faye, since for a Netflix product these actors are really similar to their animated counterparts in terms of appearance, but in terms of personality they are a little different but not much.
Something that made me raise the % of believing that maybe this product could have been something "good", is that they used all the original soundtrack of the anime and for those who have seen Cowboy Bebop know that this soundtrack is one of the best there is, without any doubt, that's why when I found out that it would be the same soundtrack, I was glad, But when I saw the first chapter I knew that things would go downhill, not only because they changed a lot compared to what was seen in the first chapter of the anime, which I can understand that they change certain aspects to adapt it to Live Action and also because having 10 chapters unlike the anime that are 25, certain things would have to be changed, but every 40-50 minutes that lasts the chapter of Cowboy Bebop Live Action is a torture.
The first chapter of the Cowboy Bebop anime is excellently presented, we are shown the interaction of Spike and Jet from the beginning, their personalities and plans, also we get a little hint of Spike's past, which is one of the most interesting along with Faye's past. Regarding the first chapter of the Live Action, it follows in a free but similar way the events that occurred in the anime, however, the denouement, which in the anime is quite sad and shocking, in the Live Action it is not, especially because Faye is introduced arbitrarily and without any need and sense.
In the anime we are introduced to these two characters, a couple formed by Asimov and Katerina, they are fleeing with a lot of drugs stolen from the "mafia" in order to travel to another planet and live fully and happily. The anime is responsible for reflecting the despair, fear and anger that Asimov has, both for everything that is happening, as well as for consuming drugs, Katerina wants to go with her partner to live happily, however, as this chapter progresses and while Spike chases them and has some confrontations against Asimov, the history of this couple reminds Spike of his old love: Julia (who I'll talk about in a moment), reached a certain point in the chapter, Spike chases them through space, while an irate and even crazier Asimov wants to cross the inter-space border even though he is being blocked by the police, In this situation of seeing her partner totally unhinged and being totally unaware of his attitude, and also being totally cornered, Katerina decides to kill Asimov at that moment, while on the other hand, the police start shooting at the ship where the couple was traveling, Katerina also dying on the spot. This scene the first time I saw it impacted me and was the point that made me continue with this series. In the Live Action, however, although it follows to some extent what happened in the anime, it has certain details that make it boring and insipid. The first point is that in the Live Action they fail to reflect the madness and desperation of Asimov, much less have a fight as good against Spike as in the anime (In fact the fight choreography in this Live Action are pathetic), but the worst detail regarding this adaptation is that unlike the anime who is Katerina herself who is responsible for killing Asimov, in the Live Action suddenly Faye appears, for no reason. In the first time she appears in this first chapter she makes Asimov and Katernia escape, however in her second appearance she is the one who fatally shoots Asimov and although they manage to escape again as in the anime, Spike chases them in the ship through space and the police shoot the ship where Asimov and Katerina were going, it is not her who kills him in the end (Katerina), but before the police started shooting at them, Asimov had already been killed by Faye's shot, totally changing a quite shocking scene in the anime to introduce Faye in this first chapter out of nowhere, being totally unnecessary.
A moment ago I mentioned Julia, a very important character in Spike's life, she was his great love in the past when he was a member of the mafia, until their separation due to a confrontation with Vicius (main villain of Cowboy Bebop and former partner of Spike). Julia is a character that is introduced to us initially through flashback, in memories of Spike and we are shown how they fell in love even though she was the partner of Vicius, the relationship between her and Spike was in secret. In all the anime of Cowboy Bebop she appears very few times, but when she does it is because they are very important and representative moments of the anime, however in the Live Action she appears every time, occupying a subplot with Vicius totally unnecessary, leaving aside the impact and symbolism of the Julia of the anime when she appears for the first time before Spike after so many years without seeing each other. In the Live Action they do the opposite by making her appear in almost every chapter unnecessarily, the mystery of this character is totally lost in this adaptation. And if we talk about lost, Vicius, which is a character that in the anime is methodical, calculating and even terrifying, in the Live Action is totally the opposite, since the bad interpretation of the actor besides being bad, is overacted, this Vicius is the opposite of his anime version, this version is simply a big kid with anger problems and always makes stupid faces every time he hears about Spike, it's as if the writers of this Live Action got together and decided to make this character so emblematic of the anime and turn him into a stupid kid with anger problems. None of the epicness of the anime's Vicius is in this character, in fact, it's nothing like him at all.
Cowboy Bebop Live Action was really a product destined to fail, not only because of the creative liberties that were taken, which perhaps these "liberties" would not have been a failure if they had at least respected what the anime represented, not only with the dialogues that are in the anime, but also with the symbolism that is in its images and scenes. None of this is present in this adaptation. And as the title says, the only good thing about this series is its soundtrack. Don't watch this crap and watch the original version instead. Luckily this adaptation was cancelled (not surprising at all). Cowboy Bebop Live Action joins the garbage pile called "failed video game and anime adaptations", where you can find the most recent Resident Evil adaptations (even the first movies are better), Dragon Ball Evolution, Death Note and in the future will join the adaptation of "Knights of the Zodiac" and my beloved One Piece, I have little hope about these upcoming adaptations due to the bad reputation of Netflix, I hope that someday they understand that there are anime that can not be adapted to Live Action because of how they are, but there are others like Cowboy Bebop that if they can be adapted, as long as they respect the original product.
