Dark: Time travel, paradoxes and incest

Review by @freddbrito · 2210d · of Dark

Recently I finish Dark, a series that since its first chapter had captured all my attention, since its plot was centered in one of my favorite topics: Time travel, and with that alone, I was automatically captivated by what this series had to offer. I started watching this series because a lot of people mistakenly said that it was similar to Stranger Things, but that small group of people was totally wrong, because not only in the plot they don't look a bit like it, but also in the seriousness and good plot planning that Dark transmits, it had nothing to do with Stranger Things. In fact, I can easily say that Dark is one of the best series that Netflix has in its catalogue and it's one of the best series of recent years, and that's something that Stranger Things is not close to achieving.

Therefore, having Dark as one of my favorite themes as time travel is, as I mentioned, it was logical for me that I would end up liking this series, since the movie saga of Back To The Future is my favorite movie saga, besides the fact that you anime like Steins Gate or movies like Looper, I liked them a lot because their plot also covers this same theme. The end of Dark had a really good closing and you can really see that it was a series that was planned from the beginning to the end and that didn't take more time than it should, you can see it in a great effort of its creators to create a story with a logical and fundamental closing for each plot and subplot that encompassed Dark.

In this post I'm not going to talk about all the timelines that were in this series because, besides I would have to make a very long post to explain in a summarized way, the truth is that this kind of things is difficult to explain, I'll just give a little opinion about this series, which has become one of my favorites and occupying a space in the top of my favorite series so far.

Taking up again the theme of Dark, basically the whole central argument of this series, you could say that it is based on the "love" the love of a father for wanting to "revive" his son, it triggers all the events, plots and subplots of this series. Where time travel, paradoxes and incest (if, as you're reading, incest), is part of the cycle of all the misfortune, suffering, but also love, that encompasses Dark.

Dark, is a series that besides having a totally planned plot from beginning to end to be able to give a logical closure to each plot (even though there were plots that were not completely explained), is a series that visually is very careful, each plane or in most of them, presents a quite characteristic style that makes it look visually spectacular. In each period of time that this series shows, it recreates very well each characteristic of that period and when it shows us its version of a post-apocalyptic future, it knows how to create with "few resources" a destroyed, depressing and desolate atmosphere.

The musicalization in Dark is magnificent, every time I finished watching a chapter I always went to look for what song they had used, since the music presented in this series gives it a great personality, it's a type of music that reminded me of the one used in the trailer of Death Stranding. During the first two seasons I was listening to the soundtrack that was used in them and I was looking forward to the 3rd season, and as expected I don't disappoint in this aspect. Musically this series is a 10/10.

With regards to the cast of Dark, I can only say that it is the best of this series, it is without a doubt a perfect work, since besides having good performances, the choice of each character and with their respective versions from other times past or future, they really have a resemblance, so much so that many of these characters are not related at all, but even so they are so similar that they make you believe that, although there are also counterparts that in real life are family and there their similarities are more accurate.

As final words, Dark is one of the best current series, with a well thought out plot, structured from beginning to end, with a magnificent cast, a visually impressive atmosphere and a musicalization that gives it great personality. A series that I recommend to everyone.
