Criminal Minds was released in September 2005, it is an American series created by Jeff Davis. This tells the story of a group of agents belonging to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit and the cases they investigate. This unit is based in Quantico, Virginia, the members are profilers. They are in charge of finding the criminals or unknown based on their behavior and the details of the crimes they commit.
For 15 seasons this dynamic works quite well, it does not become tedious or repetitive like other police series. Each chapter is well structured and orchestrated to keep you on the edge of the seat, wanting to discover who the bad guy is too. Apart from this, it also exposes the personal conflicts of the team members. That adds a more realistic touch to the series because it introduces us to these profilers as ordinary people and doesn't idealize them as flawless heroes.
The unit changed members as the series progressed, but the team that I met and loved was made up of Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), Derek Morgan (Shemar moore), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), David Rossi (Joe Keep), Jeniffer «JJ» Jareau (AJ Cook), Dr. Spencer Read (Matthew Gray Gubler) a young doctor, in addition to my favorite character, and the systems analyst, apart from the soul of the team, Penelope García (Kirsten Simone Vangsness). These people made me love this show and watch marathons of all seasons in one day.
I learned three things that I consider important in life and you should know. The first is that nothing is what it seems, even if you watch the show and they try to figure out who the bad guy is based on their behavior, you realize that most serial killers are ordinary-looking people. Your neighbor, your friend or your co-worker.
The second is that in America there are too many serial killers and psychopaths. Seriously too large to be normal, Dr. Read says a disturbing fact in one episode. 3% of the population of that country are psychopaths. Crazy and make you come up with the American dream. In the third world there are psychopaths, but the crimes are not elaborate.
The last one is the highlights, a series can last 15 seasons with a simple and repetitive arc, as long as it is entertaining, which does not happen often in today's crime dramas. This series and others like Law and Order: UVE and Bones lasted more than a decade. This is due to the success of the one who is undoubtedly the pioneer of this genre CSI who, although we saw the same cases every day, showed us the police for the first time as human beings with defects.
I hope you give this series a chance and especially these incredible characters that get into your heart, as well as your head. If you are a fan of murderers in series and police dramas this is your series, if not your style I know that you will stay for Morgan and Reíd who are the most beautiful.
