Classic vampire movies and TV series will always appeal to audiences around the world, perhaps because the Bram Stoker phenomenon still continues to ignite the flame of horrific entertainment despite the fangs and bloodlust plots being stretched further. can not. But, like all genres of entertainment, there are those who have innovated the concept of vampires, making some as harmless as they are loving, and others as fearsome as they are voracious. Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan show us something new in this vampiric universe, with a television series that mixes horror, drama and suspense in a story where darkness is the worst enemy of blood streams.
The Strain is a television series that frames its plot lines under the mystical legend of "The Master", a terrifying being who consumes the blood of his victims to turn them into his hungry slaves. This time, there are no fangs involved, but a huge sucking tongue that rises from the windpipe to inject some kind of languid, meat-hungry parasites. In the midst of this fateful threat, Ephraim Goodweather must use his abilities as an epidemiologist to save the world from the eternal darkness with which "The Master" wishes to enslave it. For this, he decides to ally himself with Abraham Setrakian, a veteran of the vampires who will not hesitate to play all his cards against the evil that runs silently in the darkness ... waiting to attack with red eyes and a mouth full of death.
The horror in this story is framed in the desire to preserve a hope that seems lost. The city of New York serves as the stage to show us desolate streets under a disease of parasites that follow orders and consume the veins to chain them to the mind of a gigantic monster, hunched and with bright red eyes. There is more, of course: power plays a fundamental role in The Strain, as ties and briefcases full of money are the only ones capable of unleashing evil beasts. In this paradigm, we see that the hunt for "The Master" is a battle for supremacy, immortality and in the last place the salvation of life.
The Strain was first conceived by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan in a trilogy of books. Some time later, the television series was born under the seal of the FX network, with a remarkable production and a cast that promised to captivate and make audiences tremble with fear. Vampires return to the fore, this time as bald specters capable of climbing walls and observing their victims in the dark. Some bacteria come from the least imaginable monsters; The Master knows it, Ephraim Goodweather knows it, and only one can prevail in this war of blood, power and survival.

Eph's life has played him dirty in the worst way with a ruined marriage and a son whom he sees only by turns. At least she has his job analyzing test tubes and looking for cures for the most fearsome viruses at the CDC. Everything went between good and bad until it only went badly with the arrival of that plane full of dead passengers. The worst thing was not that they were dead, but what was inside them; under the skin and the flesh, the parasites infested with the orders of "The Master" reproduced, returning in spectra to all that once had the trace of humanity. Precisely, it is his research on that plane that ends up transforming his job into a real battle to preserve the preservation of human life, knowing that he must first face an enemy much worse than vampires: the his own fears.

As a child, his grandmother would tell him the most horrific stories so that he would drink his soup without leaving a single drop on the plate. One of them mentioned Jusef Sardu, a sympathetic prince condemned to the undesirable height of his bones. Those legends didn't seem true; a man cannot transform himself into a monster to devour children at night. It was said that Jusef Sardu had disappeared, but that when the moon fell the sound of his cane was heard in the windows of the little innocents. Abraham listened to him, and many years later he continued to listen to him. This time he was not a child, and he knew perfectly well that the legends were real. The darkness returned to dominate them all… but not if Abraham Setrakian is there to prevent it.
Thomas Eichorst

Eichorst is the most faithful follower that the dark has been able to count on. He is immortal, although not enough to become the monster that dominates them all. His most essential skill is to seduce the ears into wrapping them in his own plans and desires, and much of it he proved in the holocaust. That time he was unsuccessful, but they say that the third time is the charm, and for Thomas there is no opportunity that should be rejected ... and less when the Master is the one who offers it to him like a fish on the hook.
My opinion about The Strain
Mi opinión acerca de The Strain
The first thing that attracted me to The Strain was the context with which the vampire universe was approached; This story seeks to raise the classics of Bram Stoker, those dark and terrifying feats where blood was the favorite delicacy of the fangs. Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan qualify their own perception of vampiric monsters, making them more inhuman and insensitive, and mixing the curse of the "blood-eaters" with epidemic events. Horror, as is typical at least for Del Toro, is beautifully crafted into pale, glowing, and creepy creatures. You get carried away by the suspense and in a short time the fear is hilarious, something that the magnificent scenery and the direction of the camera achieve with an impressive homogeneity.
There are 4 seasons with which The Strain was making its plot. At first the story was a trigger for emotions; You were discovering secrets while the horror was in every little fragment of the screen. There was a lot of drama, and this gave much more force to a television series that came to renew the world of vampires. As of the second season, things changed as the rhythm of the argument was paralyzed, did not advance and did not even impress with a substantial twist. Everything was reduced to the hunt for the master and the salvation of the world, something overwhelming because the villain became that essential prey for the premise, directing all the threads towards the same common point that was already beginning to bore season after season.
Still, The Strain had its strengths and ambitions by including a variety of symbolic characters, cross stories between the past and the future, and an extremely compelling mystery. I enjoyed watching some vampires other than love, kisses, and adolescent meekness. For me Guillermo and Chuck paid an acceptable tribute to Bram Stoker's Dracúla, the one that paralyzed us with fear and made us eat our nails movie after movie. Perhaps I am lacking a little more dramatic complexity, but it is a good television series to pass the moment and jump from time to time in fear. Not all vampires need fangs to consume their victims; In The Strain, the worst come in the smallest and most sinister form possible.
