En algunas oportunidades al realizar reseñas sobre películas dentro del género del terror he mencionado a esta película llamada ‘Así en la tierra como en el infierno’ atribuyendo a esta el glorioso título de la mejor peor película de terror que he visto, aunque no tiene mucho sentido. Podría decirse que dentro de la lista de peores películas de terror estaría dentro de los primeros puestos desde mi punto de vista, si no es que el primero, sacando incluso la reacción contraria de lo que se pretende cuando se realiza una película de este género, que sería infundir temor, cometido en el que fracasaron por lo menos conmigo y de una manera gigantesca porque me la pasé riéndome desde principio a fin… pero esta ha sido una de las razones por las cuales me gusta tanto.

In some opportunities when reviewing movies within the horror genre I have mentioned this movie called ‘As Above, So Below’ attributing to this the glorious title of the best worst horror movie I've seen, although it doesn't make much sense. It could be said that within the list of worst horror movies it would be within the first places from my point of view, if not the first, even getting the opposite reaction of what is intended when a film of this genre is made, which would be to instill fear, a task in which they failed at least with me and in a gigantic way because I spent it laughing from beginning to end... but this has been one of the reasons why I like it so much.
No soy una persona que guste particularmente de estar dentro de espacios reducidos pero cuando paseas dentro del maravilloso mundo de YouTube la recomendación de un video donde alguien explora una cueva me llama tanto la atención que termino mirándolo hasta que el corazón se me quiera salir por la boca. Esta película no es recomendada para persona claustrofóbicas, porque su trama argumentativa gira en torno a un grupo de personas que se adentra en las profundidades de las catacumbas de París, Francia, razón por la cual una considerable cantidad de escenas serán en espacios muy reducidos que podrían llegar a generar incomodidad en algunos, están avisados por si quieren ahorrarse un gran disgusto. Hay que destacar que esta cinematografía fue grabada en las catacumbas reales, lo que le aporta un mayor valor.
I am not a person who particularly likes to be in confined spaces, but when you stroll through the wonderful world of YouTube, the recommendation of a video where someone explores a cave catches my attention so much that I end up watching it until my heart wants to burst out of my mouth. This film is not recommended for claustrophobic people, because its plot revolves around a group of people who go into the depths of the catacombs of Paris, France, which is why a considerable amount of scenes will be in very small spaces that could generate discomfort in some, you are warned in case you want to save yourselves a discomfort. It should be noted that this cinematography was shot in the actual catacombs, which adds to its value.
Teniendo en consideración estas circunstancias con el espacio reducido siendo algo implícito, se decidió implementar el formato de cámara en mano y hacer un intento por explotar los recursos alrededor de esto. Puedo entender lo que llevó a esta decisión, sin embargo, considero que le quitó credibilidad pues nunca he creído que alguien en su sano juicio priorizará una cámara cuando pasan cosas horribles alrededor, si estuviese en alguna situación similar como las que atraviesan estos personajes, pese a que nunca se puede determinar con exactitud qué haríamos, dudo mucho que grabaría lo que está pasando antes de empezar a correr como una desquiciada para salir de allí. Pero eso nos lleva a un punto importante que es el razonamiento lógico de los personajes que no sabría decir si es lógico en lo absoluto.
Taking into consideration these circumstances with the reduced space being somewhat implicit, it was decided to implement the handheld camera format and make an attempt to exploit the resources around this. I can understand what led to the decision, however, I feel it took away from its credibility as I have never believed that anyone in their right mind would prioritize a camera when horrible things are happening around, if I were in any similar situation as these characters are going through, despite the fact that it can never be determined exactly what we would do, I highly doubt I would record what is going on before I start running like a madwoman to get out of there. But that brings us to an important point which is the logical reasoning of the characters which I wouldn't know if it's logical at all.
¿Que un completo extraño me recomienda a un total extraño que supuestamente es experto de las catacumbas parisinas y lo puedo encontrar en una discoteca extraña? ¡Vamos allá! Sí, seguro, las películas necesitan algo de esto porque si no pues no tendríamos ninguna en primer lugar, pero tampoco lo hagan así, tan fuera de lo que una persona normal haría, porque le quitas al espectador la sensación de que está mirando algo real, aunque se deba partir de la base de que nada verdadero porque es una cinematografía. Puedes hacer una película de este estilo sin que los personajes sean unas personas desprovistas de criterio que piensan que un amigo perdido en las catacumbas y cuyo aspecto podría ser el de un muerto viviente no es para nada sospechoso después de hacerse demostrado con no se encuentran en un lugar normal.
That a complete stranger recommends me to a total stranger who is supposedly an expert of the Parisian catacombs and I can meet him in a strange nightclub? Here we go! Yeah, sure, movies need some of this because otherwise we wouldn't have any in the first place, but don't do it this way either, so out of character that a normal person would do, because you take away from the viewer the feeling that they are watching something real, even if you have to start from the premise that nothing real because it's cinematography. You can make a film of this style without the characters being people devoid of criteria who think that a friend lost in the catacombs and whose appearance could be that of the living dead is not at all suspicious after being shown that they are not in a normal place.
En principio me la pasé riendo por esa razón porque a mí esto de las pésimas decisiones me causa mucha gracia, pero después se convirtió en una risa de no entender en lo absoluto lo que estaba pasando como consecuencia de movimiento constante de la cámara con la que se estaban graban las escenas. Ese formato de cámara en mano así como tiene puntos positivos pues tiene puntos negativos, este siendo uno de ellos, llegando incluso a marear un poco de tanto moverse porque la cámara la manipula una persona, la cual dentro de los acontecimientos que pasan puede estar corriendo para salvar su vida de fuerzas malignas. Es así que se vuelve demasiado caótica a mi gusto y se ocasiona una pérdida del sentido sobre lo que está pasando para el espectador, quien no puede hacer más sino tratar de darle forma a los acontecimientos.
At first I laughed for that reason because I find the bad decisions very funny, but then it became a laugh because I did not understand at all what was happening as a result of constant movement of the camera with which the scenes were being recorded. That handheld camera format has positive points as well as negative points, this being one of them, even getting a little dizzy from moving so much because the camera is manipulated by a person, which within the events that happen may be running to save his life from evil forces. This is how it becomes too chaotic to my taste and causes a loss of sense of what is happening for the viewer, who can do nothing more than try to shape the events.
La trama argumentativa sacando elementos clichés donde las apariciones repentinas de personas en situaciones extrañas se utilizan con frecuencia, me parece interesante porque aborda la alquimia, con leyendas como las del alquimista Nicolas Flamel y la piedra filosofal. De hecho, en la búsqueda de esta es que se centra el argumento de la cinematografía cuya protagonista es la arqueóloga Scarlett Marlowe, la cual se encuentra intentando completar la investigación de su padre para encontrar esta mítica piedra, para lo que deberán encontrar ciertas piezas y descifrar las pistas, mismas que llevan a este grupo precisamente a las catacumbas de París, Francia, lugar donde ya se encontraban en un hecho muy conveniente. El cómo se enlaza todo el recorrido de la investigación sobre la ubicación de la piedra filosofal con las catacumbas es interesante.

La he visto muchas veces y debo decir que aunque la primera impresión fue un no entender nada, prestándole atención a los detalles durante una segunda oportunidad cobra un mayor sentido sobre lo que se presenta, buscándole significado en su relación con el infierno y fuerzas malignas, donde los simbolismos encajan perfectos. De cualquier manera lo que nunca se me olvida de esta película es la sensación de estar en frente de la televisión cuestionándome sobre si lo que mostraban tenía importancia y si en algún momento la cámara dejaría de moverse tanto. Es por eso que creo que donde más falla es en cómo presentan la información, porque quizá se habría entendido mejor si no se sentía que eran apariciones aleatorias y sucesos cuya explicación se atribuyera a la cercanía con el infierno.
I have seen it several times and I must say that although the first impression was not to understand anything, paying attention to the details during a second opportunity it makes more sense of what is presented, looking for meaning in its relationship with hell and evil forces, where the symbolisms fit perfectly. Anyway, what I will never forget about this film is the feeling of being in front of the TV, wondering if what they were showing had any importance and if at some point the camera would stop moving so much. That's why I think where it fails the most is in how they present the information, because perhaps it would have been better understood if it didn't feel like they were random appearances and events whose explanation was attributed to the proximity to hell.
