Saludos a todos los miembros de la comunidad, ¿cómo están? Hace unos días antes de acostarme a dormir sintonicé un canal en la televisión y estaban mostrando esta película llamada Las Olas que aunque no tenía la menor idea de qué iba, me atrapó en esos minutos lo suficiente como para quedarme a verla hasta el final y para serles honesta no sé valió la pena. Las situaciones que se presentan en la cotidianidad no son sencillas mientras atravesamos la adolescencia siempre que no sabemos cómo hacer frente a nuestras propias emociones, a veces explosivas y rebeldes. Esta podría decir es un aceptable reflejo de los altos y bajos de la vida misma, de cómo malas decisiones nos llevan por rumbos inciertos que no acaban de la mejor manera, pero cuando lo notamos ha sido demasiado tarde.
Greetings to all the members of the community, how are you? A few days ago before going to bed I tuned in to a TV channel and they were showing this movie called Waves that even though I had no idea what it was about, it caught me in those minutes enough to stay to watch it until the end and to be honest I don't know if it was worth it. The situations that arise in everyday life are not easy as we go through adolescence whenever we do not know how to deal with our own emotions, sometimes explosive and rebellious. This could be said to be an acceptable reflection of the ups and downs of life itself, of how bad decisions lead us down uncertain paths that don't end in the best way, but by the time we notice it's too late.
Esta cinematografía es un drama que se centra en esta familia afroamericana de apellido Williams que reside al sur de Florida en los Estados Unidos y no se encuentran mal en términos económicos. La atención se centrará en el hijo, Tyler, ya que este es un prometedor deportista al practicar lucha, pero esto se encuentra ligado a una carga demasiado pesada para un adolescente que poco a poco comienza a sentirse asfixiado por las exigencias de su padre, Ronald, quien espera solamente lo mejor sobre su futuro respecto al deporte… ¿qué podría salir mal con esto? Esa distorsionada visión sobre lo que debería hacer un padre para incentivar a sus hijos a conseguir su potencial, hará que situaciones desafortunadas adquieran mayor relevancia dentro de una familia a la que el término comunicación no le resulta conocido.
This film is a drama that focuses on this African-American family named Williams that resides in South Florida in the United States and are not doing badly in economic terms. The focus will be on the son, Tyler, as he is a promising athlete by practicing wrestling, but this is linked to a burden too heavy for a teenager who gradually begins to feel suffocated by the demands of his father, Ronald, who expects only the best about his future regarding the sport... what could go wrong with this? That distorted view of what a father should do to encourage his children to achieve their potential will cause unfortunate situations to take on greater relevance within a family unfamiliar with the term communication.
Es así como de la mano de Tyler nos embarcaremos dentro de los excesos lleno de emociones erráticas que nos hacen sentir en una montaña rusa, todo sucede con un ritmo acorde a las situaciones que se van presentando pero en un punto se siente como si estuviésemos dentro de un auto a toda velocidad a punto de estrellarnos y no hay nada que podamos hacer para evitarlo. La interpretación de Kelvin Harrison Jr. a mí me pareció de lo mejor, porque no es sencillo colocarse en la piel de este adolescente que siente que su vida simplemente se está desmoronando, esas emociones de ahogarse, de quedarse sin futuro, de estarlo perdiendo todo, de estar siendo consumido por mucha rabia hasta hervirle la sangre, consiguió que a través de sus expresiones pudiésemos ver a este personaje perdiendo el rumbo y fue un impacto tremendo.
This is how Tyler's hand we will embark into the excesses full of erratic emotions that make us feel on a roller coaster, everything happens with a rhythm according to the situations that are presented but at one point it feels like we are inside a car at full speed about to crash and there is nothing we can do to avoid it. The interpretation of Kelvin Harrison Jr. seemed to me the best, because it is not easy to get into the skin of this teenager who feels that his life is simply falling apart, those emotions of drowning, of being left with no future, of losing everything, of being consumed by a lot of rage until his blood boils, he managed that through his expressions we could see this character losing his way and it was a tremendous impact.
Después, pasará a centrarse en la hermana de Tyler, Emily, y la personalidad de la cinematografía cambia por completo sintiéndose como la calma al haber pasado la tormenta, lo cual agradezco porque sinceramente necesitaba respirar por un segundo. Los hechos desarrollados encontrarán estrecha relación con lo que miramos a través de la pantalla momentos atrás, enfocándose en la perspectiva de esta joven que no se encuentra pasando por un buen momento, lidiando con los pedazos de una familia en crisis mientras ella también trata de descubrirse a sí misma. Este personaje aunque no será sometido a circunstancias tan fuertes como el anterior pues sí requirió de contar con la excelente participación de Taylor Russell en su interpretación, manifestando el dolor, resentimiento y culpa contenidos en su tranquila personalidad que explota.
It then shifts focus to Tyler's sister, Emily, and the personality of the cinematography changes completely, feeling like the calm having passed the storm, which I appreciated because I honestly needed to breathe for a second. The events unfolding will find close relation to what we watched through the screen moments before, focusing on the perspective of this young woman who is not having a good time, dealing with the pieces of a family in crisis as she too tries to discover herself. This character, though not subjected to such strong circumstances as the previous one, did require Taylor Russell's excellent performance, manifesting the pain, resentment and guilt contained in her quiet personality that explodes.
La banda sonora ha sido destacada por la crítica como algo en lo que reluce como una auténtica joya, pero si tengo que ser honesta, nada más reconocí algunas de las canciones utilizadas como ‘True Loves Wait’ de Radiohead, ‘Godspeed’ de Frank Ocean y ‘Love is a Losing Game’ de Amy Winehouse. Del resto las canciones originales de Trent Reznor y Atticus Ross le quedaron como anillo al dedo porque están siempre potenciando las escenas junto con las sensaciones que quieren generar. Además de esto, compaginan con esa dirección y enfoque artístico que aunque a veces me llegó a abrumar por determinados cambios de cámara, esas luces que por momentos pues no me dejaron ver absolutamente nada… en termina consiguiendo un resultado apreciado, al menos desde una perspectiva estética que saben que me encanta.
The soundtrack has been highlighted by critics as something that shines as a real gem, but if I have to be honest, I just recognized some of the songs used as 'True Loves Wait' by Radiohead, 'Godspeed' by Frank Ocean and 'Love is a Losing Game' by Amy Winehouse. Of the rest the original songs by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross fit like a glove because they are always enhancing the scenes along with the feelings they want to generate. In addition to this, they combine with that direction and artistic approach that although sometimes I was overwhelmed by certain camera changes, those lights that at times did not let me see absolutely nothing ... ends up getting an appreciated result, at least from an aesthetic perspective that you know I love.
¿Quieres sentirte roto por dentro? Esta es una película para ti, las lágrimas puede que salgan solas sin poder contenerlas, y ese sentimiento al terminar de verla de que no quedas conforme porque esto se trata de una experiencia que acerque al espectador a situaciones que perfectamente pueden darse en la actualidad pues como seres humanos cometemos errores, sin duda alguna de invita a reflexionar sobre todo lo que se presenta dentro de las dinámicas familiares. La empatía que consigue la película hacia los personajes que conocemos en esta trama argumentativa es poderosa, en verdad me sentí mal por todos, incluso por aquellos que tomaron las peores decisiones pero sin llegar a justificar nada. Esta es una de las mejores cinematografías dentro del género del drama que he visto y la única razón por la que dije al principio que no sabía si mereció la pena es porque no puede dormir de tan mal que me sentí después.
Do you want to feel broken inside? This is a movie for you, the tears may come on their own without being able to contain them, and that feeling at the end of watching it that you are not satisfied because this is an experience that brings the viewer closer to situations that can perfectly occur today because as human beings we make mistakes, certainly invites you to reflect on everything that occurs within the family dynamics. The empathy that the film achieves towards the characters we meet in this plot is powerful, I really felt bad for everyone, even for those who made the worst decisions but without justifying anything. This is some of the best filmmaking within the drama genre that I have seen and the only reason I said at the beginning that I didn't know if it was worth it is because I can't sleep because I felt so bad afterwards.
