Sup people? Any cool movies watched in the past weekend? 😎

Personally, I watched more series than movies lately but since both I and my boyfriend kept an eye out for the German Moto GP race held on Sunday, we thought we have enough time to dedicate 1 hour and a half to see what movies are currently on Netflix and that's how we ended up watching Centauro which is still on the same line with superbikes and speed.

We actually had in plan to go riding again with our mountain bikes but since the temperature was still crazy, we wanted to see this movie first before hitting the road again. I don't know about you, but I simply love these evening walks/rides when the temperature is a lot more agreeable and the traffic of the city is not that crowded anymore.

Anyway, back to the movie review!

Introduction

Centauro is a pretty fresh movie being released just 5 days ago (on 15th June) so if you are using Netflix, most likely it won't take too long to find it or even get it as a recommendation from the platform or see it in the tops based on a specific category or your region.

Even though it's a Spanish movie which comes with both the native language and actors, as well as most of the action being held in Barcelona and Madrid, Netflix has a few more languages organised to pick from if you want to hear a different audio version than Spanish.

Both the trailer and the summary of the movie will make you think quickly that Centauro is a must-see especially if you have a special attraction for motorbikes and speed, but it's a little bit early to fit this one into a good or bad category of movies because there are barely a few feedbacks shared and there's still much time left to find out whether it's worth your time or not, but until then, I'd like to share my sincere opinion founded on what I've watched.

Description

The main genres of the movie are action and thriller, but you will see that there are also mentioned adventure and crime which personally I wouldn't see the movie fit in because not every film which comes with a crime matches right away in this category, but I guess it's still a good idea of making people aware that they won't just watch a movie with motorbikes and speed.

Anyway, there is no secret that the film is based on Burn Out (2017) by Yann Gozlan, so they will have pretty similar beginnings presenting the main actor who is Àlex Monner (playing Rafa), that is a young guy passionate about races who trains hard to make his way to the top of the racers out there.

Even though he's only at the beginning of his career, he already has a family with a woman that seems a little bit distant due to the way Rafa invests the money he earns in competitions that sooner or later will make her look out for other methods of getting money to pay the monthly rent and survive.

I think we can all agree that there are some passions men can have without being understood very well by their partners, but I always thought that a balance should exist and that you should be very careful how you take care of what you earn especially if you already have a family. But Centauro is a good movie to present the risks that will be attached to a relationship when you will reach the bottom of the sack with savings.

That's how, as addicted Rafa is to the hot sensations received from the speed races, he still got a normal job from where to earn a few more bucks that will make him help his family, but especially his son.

Unfortunately, living with a monthly rent and lots of costs coming up, it's very hard to always have enough to survive, and that's how Begoña Vargas (playing Natalia - the mother of Rafa's child), will fall into the temptation to start selling drugs which even if it seems like a quick way to earn money, it will also come with plenty of risks that might push Rafa on giving up on his dream of becoming a pro racer.

Not much time passes until Rafa gets home and finds both Natalia and their child being traumatized by an event which occurred in his absence making the whole place no longer habitable, which was a warning sign coming from a cartel that Natalia was owning a debt of around $200,000.

That's the moment when even though both Rafa and Natalia weren't really a couple anymore, the young man decides it's the moment to dedicate more of his time to the family he created but which needs to step away from that crazy amount of money owed first.

Opinions

Here's the most interesting part of the movie in my opinion with more action and interesting sides of the story but which didn't miss the chance of coming with some badly written scripts that made people share a less nice review.

The part I'm referring to, is with the moments crossing the border with high speed which of course will attract lots of attention from the cops while everything could be kept safe on this line and maybe add a little bit more risks when reaching the clients or meeting the cartel instead.

However, I still think that the whole idea was interesting to see a motorbike racer getting involved in delivering drugs for the cartel to pay the debt Natalia had while trying to stay away from cops and other risks that will come out in no time.

Conclusions

If you are passionate about speed, adrenaline, and especially motorbikes, then this movie is definitely for you as it will delight your eyes with lots of scenes from the categories mentioned above, but the whole scene is quite poorly written which can't be an excuse considering that it's based on a movie from 2017 and a book that presented lots of details that could be used further to present a stunning piece on the streaming platforms.

The story behind Centauro (a title which you will find out where it comes from only at the end of the movie), is definitely a good one making you think that perhaps it could follow a true story with all the ways drugs are delivered these days, but there could be presented a lot more risks and action while a third of the movie is pretty boring.

Personally, I enjoyed this movie perhaps more than others would do, because motorbikes are my weakness and I dream of having one since I was very young so basically any film I'll watch involving superbikes will make me have a good time, but other than that the scenery is quite simple with a minimalist epilogue shared between the scenes you will see in the trailer that are the most interesting parts of Centauro.
