Hello, Hive movie buffs! For all you lovers of psychological films, today I bring you the review (with spoilers) and psychological analysis of a great movie I saw for one of my psychology classes. I hope you like it.
RESEÑA / REVIEW
¿Te has preguntado alguna vez si un psicópata nace o se hace?
Have you ever wondered if a psychopath is born or made?

This film addresses this issue from the perception of Eva, a mother who has to deal every day with the consequences of the terrible acts committed by her son. The film simultaneously narrates Eva's story in the past and in the present, separated by an event caused by her eldest son (Kevin).
Getting into the plot, we start talking about Eva, who is a travel writer living happily in New York, until one day she accidentally gets pregnant and has a son whom she names "Kevin". The son has been making her life impossible since he was a baby; he cries a lot, throws things at her, scratches the walls of her studio and to top it off, he makes himself in his diaper (when he is already big) on purpose so that his mother will constantly change it for him.
Eva, tired of the situation, decides to hit him, but instead, she throws him and unfortunately breaks his arm. This accident, instead of "helping" Kevin to behave better, does the opposite, as the boy uses his injury to blackmail her.

Everything changes the day he gets a toy bow and starts practicing archery professionally. Here we learn that he also has a little sister to whom he plays "pranks", such as tying her to Christmas ornaments, pulling her hair with a vacuum cleaner, killing a hamster and tricking her into playing with a solvent, which causes the loss of one of her eyes.

This news does not sit well with him and so, all angry, he decides to kill his father, his sister and many of his schoolmates, only to torture his mother and end up in jail. So in the end we see what Eva's life is like, which is emotionally worn out by guilt.

ANALISIS PSICOLÓGICO / PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Here I will answer common questions about the film.
1. ¿Por qué Kevin se portaba tan mal con su madre?
1. Why was Kevin being so mean to his mother?
To answer this question, we must begin to analyze under what conditions Kevin was born. In my first place it is mentioned in the previous analysis, that he was not planned by the mother and this is very important because Eva really did not want to be a mother, she had Kevin because of pressure from her husband and when she had him she was the one who practically took charge.
Since she didn't have the experience or the desire to raise anyone, she obviously wasn't going to give him the warmth and love that a child needed. With Kevin it was like that, Eva tried to be a loving mother, but it's hard to want to do something if you're not born to do it.
Because of this, Kevin grew up with a slight resentment towards his mother that grew, he thought she didn't love him and to get her attention, he would do all sorts of nasty things.
2. ¿Se comportaba igual con el padre?
2. Did he behave the same with the father?
Kevin's relationship with his father was totally different, as he behaved like an exemplary son and if Eva scolded him or reprimanded him, the father took it upon himself to support Kevin; he really knew nothing about what happened, he never wanted to believe anything to Eva.
I'm sure you're wondering, if he loved his father so much, why did he kill him? Here Kevin kills his father and sister because he wanted to torture his mother. He didn't really love them, they were just weapons that he ended up using against Eva.
3. Si Kevin odiaba a su madre, ¿por qué no la mató?
3. If Kevin hated his mother, why didn't he kill her?
Ésta pregunta podría tener dos respuesta para mi;
- Kevin si quería a su madre y todo lo que hizo fue para llamar su atención.
- Eva es solo la victima de Kevin.
This question could have two answers for me;
- Kevin did love his mother and everything he did was to get her attention.
I had already mentioned this before when I talked about the disasters he caused; in this case, it could be one more. The eagerness to be understood and loved by his mother was the cause of his actions, which is why he does not kill her.
- Eva is just Kevin's victim.
This theory makes a little more sense if we see Kevin as a psychopath, since people with this disorder will always be torturing their victim in one way or another; they take pleasure in hurting. Here Kevin is aware that his mother is alone in the world, no one loves her and she cannot be emotionally stable, so he takes advantage of this to enjoy himself while he sees his mother suffer for everything she goes through.
