A guilty pleasure at its finest, and an outrage at its worst, is American Pie. Because of a script packed with amusing and unforgettable quotes and the direct use of sexual content, the film is unquestionably humorous. The same sexual elements, however, drive the R rating of the movie closer to "adults only" than the intended teenage audience, and the work's sometimes repetitive nature also acts as a spoiler.
In their high school careers, Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Chris Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) have three weeks left, and all face a possible realization of their worst nightmare: a virgin's graduation. The last straw for them comes when their friend Sherman declares his entrance into manhood, long considered a semi-geek. The four friends make a pact to support each other and get the job done, no matter what the cost, to know that prom will be their last chance in high school to accomplish their goal.
A choir girl named Heather (Mena Suvari); Kevin's long time girlfriend, Vicky (Tara Reid); Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth's), a foreign exchange student; and several other assorted women are candidates for the group's target. The guys also have friend Jessica (Natasha Lyonne) to help out and offer advice when it comes to bazaar stuff.
The funniest part of the production is a subplot that focuses on Jim, his relationship with his father in particular, and a specific act of disparity that he commits involving an apple pie. Memorable quotes and outrageous moments are rampant throughout American Pie.
American Pie, sadly, has certain boring elements. The production also has the dubious achievement of becoming a high school comedy with a storyline leading to the prom, which has become almost synonymous with movies released in the late 90s. However, it's an enjoyable movie that most people would still enjoy today.
