I would have found about it eventually anyway but a friend of mine posted about this on FB and I was intrigued. I think Sandra Bullock is one of the best actresses alive today and I do enjoy horror. Unfortunately this film was a little dumb and I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Don't worry, this is going to be spoiler-free and if you like thrillers or i guess this is horror in a way it might be worth seeing (pun intended) oh wait, you don't know about that yet.

The plot is that some sort of very strange virus or invader or demon (it isn't specifically defined) has attacked the earth and if you look at, if you see it, it takes over your body / mind and makes you want to commit suicide. The only way to prevent this from happening is to cover all the windows of your house and never look at anything outdoors because they are, for some reason, incapable of entering homes. This is dumb but of course introduces some problems for most people as they will eventually need to go outside for some reason.

The reason it is called "Bird Box" is that since we can't look around, how can we possibly know if these things are near us? Well for some reason birds can detect their presence and although it isn't specifically said, it appears as though birds have some sort of ability to make these demons or whatever feel like going elsewhere. Basically birds are very important to have in your life if you are to survive.

I think one of the main reasons that this movie is a bit dumb is the same reason where that Mark Wahlberg film where the pathogen was actually airborne and coming from trees trying to kill all humans. There is no real motive as to why whatever this is would be wanting to kill all of us and an unseen (again, pun intended) attacker is kind of difficult to represent on screen now, isn't it?

The film has its moments and their is one particular group of people that are immune for reasons I am not going to spoil and that part of it I think, would have been very interesting to have delved a bit more into. The movie seems to focus almost entirely on flashbacks (which kind of eliminates a lot of the suspense, since we already know the "present." I can't really recommend this movie but it would be a good fit for someone who is into this specific genre. Oh, and Sandra Bullock of course is wonderful in this, as are the people playing her children. I find a great many of the other characters more annoying than anything else, including John Malkovich.

Okay, perhaps I will watch the movie blindfolded so that when it is over I won't want to commit suicide.

It sounds like a somewhat interesting story that is a bit half baked. I feel like there is a theme these days where people are making movies with interesting ideas, but they don't fully flesh them out.

This is especially true for the made for Netflix films. I am talking about movies that start off with a lot of promise, but when they end you are always stuck thinking "that was it? That was really the end?"

ditto ditto ditto.. Another fear induced dumb movie. I'm quite fatigued from guns, fear and violent movie porn! , so much more to this epic reality... I put it on while I was cleaning my house, so fortunately I didn't feel as I wasted 2 hours of my life actually sitting and watching it.

True, i think this movie is overhyped. There are scenes that are not well explained like what happened before they left their first house, how did they managed to get to their new house by the river, or what are the beings that causes suicide....

Despite these, I love the river scene where sandra bullock rethorically chooses "girl" to look around and guide them.

Well, I watched it some days ago and also wrote a post about it in my mother tongue. I have to say that yes, it has its bad points, but the only thing that somehow saves it is Bullock and Malkovich acting. Now, the plot had a good beginning, and was pretty good at least during the first half.

The relationship between the mother and her children seems very forced due to the (painfully) slow character evolution.

I really would like to read the book, since I have the feeling that the "beings" are better described in the novel.

Okay, I've watched this trailer, I didn't press the play button. 5/10. Not sure, although I am interested in Sandra Bullock. John Malkovich, oh yes he can be annoying. :)

I do not understand how they make a movie based on that kind of arguments, honestly, sometimes I think I could build a better argument. The trick is that they always get some famous actor, as Mark Wahlberg or Sandra Bullock to attract the public.
