This movie was the first time one of my favorite minor actors, Chris Elliot, got his own feature film, it was likely his last as well.
Despite being co-produced by Tim Burton, very few people went to go see this movie and it ended up not even coming close to recovering the $10 million budget. Even though I was a big time fanboi at the time and did go see it, I considered it to be one of the worst movies I had seen in a while. It seems as though a great deal of the professional critic world agreed with me and it was pretty much universally panned.
The story is about a snobbish aristocrat named Nathanial (Chris Elliot) who has recently graduated (which is absurd because he is clearly much older than that.) His father then invited him to go sailing on what we have to presume is some sort of illustrious yacht. However, Nathanial annoys his limo driver who kicks him out of the car and Nathanial is forced to walk the rest of the way to the pier.
This is where one of the only memorable moments of the entire film takes place when he is so self-centered he prays to God to help him "not break a sweat." He gets lost and ends up on the wrong boat where he is given the most horrible tasks and I guess learns how to be a "common man." The scenarios that he an his crew find themselves on are juvenile and unfortunately not very funny, hence the entire purpose of this film has failed badly.
The only reason that I thought to review this movie was because a friend of mine was showing me a clip from Scary Movie 2 (I think that was what it was) and Chris Elliot was in the scene he was showing me which consequently was also not funny.
I'm not going to recommend anyone see this movie because i truly believe it is a waste of time. I suppose I can grant it a few points for having some mildly funny moments but for the most part it is just 1.5 hours of dumb.
