Forgetting Sarah Marshall (film): Sometimes I like Rom-Coms

Review by @gooddream · 2751d · of Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I am not afraid to admit that I like a wide range of films including romantic comedies. As a matter of fact, if done correctly, i think it is one of my favorite genres. This one was excellent in my mind.

I think most people have been dumped at one point or another and that is where this movie starts being good. It is relatable. The fact that Peter Breter (Jason Segel) has enough money to go on a long vacation in Hawaii in order to help ease the pain of his breakup is well, not so relatable but it is a movie so we can just go with it.

While he is in Hawaii, he learns that his ex-girlfriend just happens to be there at the same time, with her rockstar boyfriend Aldous Snow. I can't imagine anything worse that could possibly happen.

The story carries on in a humorous way and it only gets better once Aldous (Russel Brand) and Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) are introduced to the story. I feel as though any story can be made better by the addition of who i consider to be the best-looking person in the world Mila Kunis, who playes Rachel, a receptionist at the hotel and consequently someone that Peter has taken an interest in.

The stuff that follows is just so true in breakups. You don't want to be with one-another anymore but you are trying really hard to be "better off" than your ex. It makes us ask silly questions like "why do I care what my ex is up to?" and the answer is sometimes that we are all selfish a-holes and it takes years for us to be ok with them being with someone else or even being happy without us.

While there isn't much action in this movie, it doesn't need it. It has a wide array of wonderful characters, one of which was so wonderful it ended up spawning its own hit movie (Aldous Snow: Get him to the Greek.)

I have seen this movie more than once and would definitely watch it again. I would venture to say that it is one of my favorite romcoms of all time. Plus you know, Mila Kunis is in it and I'll watch pretty much anything she is in.

I have seen it a couple of times myself, and I have got to say - this is a typical romantic comedy, and one of the better one. Unfortunately, there are not so many good movies created in this category anymore, so I really have to look hard to find good romantic comedies like this one... Another romantic comedy I love is Couples Retreat. Have you seen it? I am sure you will like it if you liked Forgetting Sarah Marshall! :)

I must say that it is a movie with good moments. It's quite fun, and it takes place in a very nice setting. I can not say how many times I've seen this movie, you can see it again and again, of course, not consecutively.

Everything is quite funny, the unfortunate protagonist, the receptionist played by Kunis who takes everything lightly, the surf instructor who refuses to grow old, the newlyweds with problems to have sex, the famous singer and his fan, the former wife of the protagonist who gets jealous, friends who speak through the computer (btw there is an error in that scene, the actors reveal that their room is a green screen), and a set of secondary characters more. You can spend a nice and funny moment watching this movie.
