Sucker Punch: creative, dream-like, fantasy.

Review by @gooddream · 2931d · of Sucker Punch

This movie didn't get much in the way of critical acclaim, as a matter of fact it was pretty universally panned by critics and I have to say that I completely disagree with them as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Described by one critic as "Alice in Wonderland... with machine guns," this film takes place in the mind of one of the characters nicknamed "BabyDoll" who is institutionalized in a mental asylum after being blamed for her sister's death. She incorporates her fellow inmates into her fantasies where she and her fellow inmates are ninja-like characters who find themselves in to be honest, quite absurd situations such as fighting giant Samurais with rocket launchers and mini-guns.

There are other fantasies that involve taking on Nazi robot warriors and what not. Ok, now that i see it in writing it is a bit ridiculous and I can kind of relate to some of the negative talk about it. However, as someone who enjoys fantasy stories and movies as well as comic books, sometimes I appreciate absurd situations.

The film also has an incredible musical score and the songs contained inside are tunes I would likely enjoy even if the movie didn't exist. It probably doesn't hurt that the main characters in the film are reasonably good-looking.

I think the cinematography, action sequences, and music easily make up for the completely preposterous storyline.

it has a 4 / 10 rating on official sites and I completely disagree. I'm gonna pump it up a bit

6 / 10

It wasn't a bad movie, i agree, but i felt there was a lot of unused potential, and this usually frustruates me :D If a movie has characters with mental problems, then the movie should mess with viewers brains more ...like "Shutter Island".

I don’t know why, but I feel compelled to watch this. 😮🤗 I promise I’ll watch it in a critical way. Lol. Looks like a semi cool movie to me with eye candy .. thats a plus plus.

Ah Well the downside of liking fantasy movies such as this one is the eeries that comes along with it, are the tunes as nice as those of Harry Potter? Because i absolutely love classical pieces and would watch this without comtempletation if is so.

I really don't know the standards critics use to judge a movie. I've seen movies I felt were pretty good receive low ratings. Maybe it's a sentimental thing.

I haven't watched Sucker Punch, but I'll take your word for it

this film holds a message so strong, it's only for the willing to comprehend to receive this message. You enter into a girl's imagination, her own little world on how she interprets reality, if you pay attention from beginning to end, you'll realize how its not so different from both realms. Its like matrix or inception, you either get it or you just miss out.

I saw this movie a long long time ago and to be honest i enjoyed it. Well maybe coz i wasnt all grown yet and waa just caught up in the action and comedy.

The reason people criticize movies most times is when they dont see what they were expecting so i think its mostly all about the mindset wuth which you go to grace a movie.

Sucker Punch has some merits. The special effects and action scenes are impressive. I did get a kick out of some of the battle scenes which are nicely choreographed and executed with lots of explosions. Watching it is sort of like looking at a silent film on steroids but minus the heart and soul of that bygone era. The incredible aesthetic beauty and action choreography are a lot impressive than Snyder's 300. But the problem with Sucker Punch is that even in a fantasy film, or any action film for that matter, you have to put effort into making the audience care for your characters no matter how good looking the action and special effects are. You simply won't care who lives or dies in this film. At some point, you have to try to make the audience care. This film simply never does.
