This movie... well i don't even know why i decided to watch it. I think i was very heavily involved in torrents at the time and it was on the front page of the world's most popular torrent site (you know what i'm talking about.) I have since gravitated away from that site and all the others like it but this is only a guess. However, i think that is likely how I ended up seeing it because me watching French-language films, doesn't happen often.

This movie is disturbing in a way because it makes you feel very claustrophobic and it is based on a very real situation. There is a disease that happens to people after suffering a massive stroke and the disease is called "locked-in syndrome." It sounds made up, but it is a genuine condition and it sounds horrible. It is where you are aware of all that is going on around you but you can not move any part of your body other than your eyes. This condition is normally permanent and caused by severe brain trauma. I can imagine very little that would be as terrifying as this. To be fully aware of your surrondings but completely incapable of interacting with any of it, even though the people are trying to help you.

This film is based on the real situations that happened to a real person named Jean-Dominique Bauby and this is his account of what really happened to him.

The trailer doesn't do much to tell the story but just realize this: This is a TRUE story and it was written by a guy after he was completely incapable of speech or writing. This is the tale of him being trapped inside of his own body and to me it is as horrifying as it is amazing that it ever got finished. The story is told really well on screen and that is likely why this movie is so celebrated as a wonderful piece of art. It didn't however, make very much money. You should get the French version and just read the subs. The overdubbed version is crap.
