I had to take a break from Netflix series because I am starting to feel as though a lot of what they have on offer has some sort of political agenda, and of course because a lot of the series on Netflix are absolutely shit. So I went back over to the movies side of things and discovered that there was a lot I hadn't seen such as this Adam Sandler movie from 2016 that managed to completely pass me by.
Just like the poster says it is a Netflix film as per Sandler's ownership clause. I wonder how many more of these he has to do because I gotta tell you: I think that Sandler movies really really started to suck once he was under contract with Netflix. This one is not an exception.
Charlie McMillan (David Spade) is a grown up nerd whose life kind of sucks. He never did much with himself and still lives in the same town, has the same job, drives the same car etc that he did 25 years ago. He meets super-cool guy Max Kessler (Sandler) at the 25 year high school reunion. Max is still a charming and fun guy who Charlie was friends with in high school. Max convinces Charlie to "start his life over" by meeting him down in Florida where Max fakes both of their deaths thereby making it possible to have a "Do Over" in life.
They assume the lives of two unclaimed corpses that Max claims to have encountered in his job as a mortician and as luck would have it the two corpses were super-rich and this leads them to their new house in Puerto Rico. This new life comes at a price though because as it turns out the lives they assumed comes with a fair amount of danger as well.
If I at all made this movie sound good I can assure you that it was a mistake, this movie is terrible. The cast is extremely typical as Sandler yet again gets jobs for all of his friends (which is still a super cool bro move but a lot of these guys are terrible actors) the CGI is just laughably bad, the story is confusing and dumb and the movie relies on low-brow humor that just doesn't work.
I really like David Spade but to be honest it should't surprise me that this is basically "Grown Ups" (which I also didn't care for) but with most of the cast not present. I can't give it the lowest possible rating because I did finish the whole thing without skipping any of it. However, I don't think I laughed even once.
There is also this bizarre scene at the end where Spade says "one more time?" to Sandler and then they jump off a cliff into the sea that they have never jumped off of at any other point in the movie. I think at that point they were just like "whatever man, throw it in this pile of garbage... Netflix is paying for it!"
