I tend to skip massive releases like this because they all kind of seem the same. There is also the fact that absolutely everyone knows the basic story of Tarzan and how he was raised by apes etc. The question was just what sort of adventure story they were going to have for him.
I was extremely surprised however, to find out that Village Roadshow Pictures went to Alexander Gustavson (just kidding, I know it is Alexander Skarsgård but you can't really deny how similar they look.) I say this because while he does have some star power, her certainly wouldn't be considered a massive draw. I mean, he was in True Blood and a couple decent movies, but that is about it.

He was already in pretty good shape before this but he must have really worked hard to get into the kind of ripped shape that was necessary for this role.
I knew that when i went into this film that it was going to contain a massive amount of CGI because how could it not?, but I was actually pretty impressed with how well they pulled it off. Particularly the scenes where young Tarzan is swinging around in the trees there aren't many points where it looked fake. They did a really good job with that.
The story in the film is also a lot better than I expected because I think that probably would be pretty difficult to come up with. The Tarzan that I know as a kid was just in the jungle and animals listened to him.... that's all the background that we got and we just accepted it.
I don't need to tell you the story here because it should be evident that it doesn't really matter. A film like this was always going to be about the massive budget and how well they did the beautiful scenery and CGI. I feel as though they did quite well with this.
It is also worth noting that Christoph Waltz plays a major role in this film and he is always a welcome addition to any film. I was actually quite surprised that he took on this role as he seems to go for films that have slightly more artistic value.
I went into this film expecting very little because it simply appears to be another WB huge budget movie that was always going to make money provided they had SOME story in there. I feel as though they succeeded and as far as massive budget movies that somehow manage to make money with The Rock being in it, I have to say that I enjoyed this and am glad I watched it.
