The Society is a teenage drama / mystery series with a cast of characters that would normally be a real turn-off to me but since Netflix recommended it to me I am obligated to watch at least a few episodes.
The story here is that a bunch of high-school students go on a field trip to the nearby mountains and the buses turn around due to a rockslide and drop them all back off where they were originally sent off by their families at the start. When they return, no one can get in touch with their parents / loved ones and when they eventually walk home they realize that no one is in the city at all except for the students that were on the buses.
[source](https://www.heavenofhorror.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/the-society-review-netflix.jpg)They party at first, celebrating their new freedom but the next day they start to get a bit concerned and go to travel out of town to investigate only to discover that they can't leave and the roads all abruptly end. They are trapped in their own town. This leads to a very Lord of the Flies type situation as a bunch of snotty teenagers have to determine the hierarchy of who remains on their own - and this is actually kind of interesting for the same reason that LOTF was.
What isn't interesting is the extremely stereotypical social groups that exist inside this group of teenagers and how they are presented.

I went to 3 different high schools when I was growing up because my family was going through a "let's move every 6 months to a new city!" phase. I NEVER saw this actual demographic of letter-jacket-wearing neanderthals who just bully everyone.
There are also the nerdy kids who have a logical solution to everything but of course no one want to listen to them and there are also the outsider kids who you can tell right from the start are going to have an instrumental role in the series because of their untapped brilliance.
I can see this series fizzling out just like almost every series on Netflix but for the time being it is actually pretty interesting (i'm only 3 episodes in.) I can see them running out of plot lines pretty rapidly. The seemingly obligatory teenage stupidity (such as partying just because you can regardless of how dire the situation at hand happens to be) is annoying, but that might be simply because I am in my 40's and it seems impractical to my adult mind. In order to counteract this annoyance I just keep the PS4 controller in my hand and skip all these parts because they also don't add anything to the story. The series (so far) also doesn't address certain things like who keeps the power on, where they are getting food and water from, etc.
Overall, i would say that I am definitely going to keep watching, but I end up skipping about 10 minutes of each episode on fast-forward. If you do the same thing, i believe you can enjoy this series.
