Little by little I have been fulfilling that endless list of series and movies to watch, in that order I took advantage of the weekend to watch a movie that I had been waiting for quite some time, winking at me more and more frequently: I Care a Lot.
Poco a poco he ido dando cumplimiento a esa interminable lista de series y películas por ver, en ese orden aproveché ver el fin de semana una película que tenía bastante tiempo en espera mientras me guiñaba el ojo cada vez con más frecuencia: Descuida, yo te cuido.
The main reason why "I Care a Lot" made my list was undoubtedly its exquisite cast, something that always catches my attention, maybe because of the "raise fame and go to sleep" thing, I must admit that Oscar winner Dianne Wiest was the first figure that caught my attention, of course, Rosamund Pike, who by the way won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actress for this film, very well deserved, too. She is followed by another Golden Globe winner for Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage, and last but not least, Mexico's Eiza Gonzalez. After the above, and the good reviews that came out with the release of the film, I rather took a long time to see it.
La razón principal por la que Descuida, yo te cuido se sumó a mi lista, fue sin duda su exquisito elenco, a mí eso es algo que siempre me engancha, tal vez por lo que de cría fama y échate a dormir; debo reconocer que fue la ganadora del Oscar, Dianne Wiest, la primera figura que ganó mi atención, por supuesto Rosamund Pike, quien por cierto se ganó el Globo de Oro a mejor actriz de comedia por esta película, muy merecido, además. Le sigue a este trabuco el también ganador del Globo de Oro por Juego de Tronos, Peter Dinklage, y por último, la mexicana Eiza González. Después de lo anterior, y de las buenas críticas que surgieron con el estreno de la película, más bien me tardé mucho en verla.

I Care a Lot, is a classic black comedy that exposes hidden realities that question American justice in a system that seems to favor the powerful to the detriment of the most vulnerable. Marla Grayson, played by Rosamund Pike, represents those who, under the protection of the law, take advantage of helpless elderly people to manage their assets for their own benefit. Marla in partnership with her girlfriend Fran (Eiza Gonzalez) has well-designed a network of scams to get legal custody of the elderly declared mentally and physically incompetent for their own care, thus gaining free access to dispose of the victim's assets.
Descuida, yo te cuido, es una clásica comedia negra que deja al descubierto realidades ocultas que cuestionan la justicia americana en un sistema que pareciera favorecer a los poderosos en perjuicio de los más vulnerables. Marla Grayson, interpretada por Rosamund Pike, representa a quienes amparados en la Ley se aprovechan de ancianos indefensos para administrar sus bienes a beneficio propio. Marla en sociedad con su novia Fran (Eiza González) tienen bien diseñada una red de estafas para conseguir la custodia legal de ancianos declarados mental y físicamente incompetentes para su propio cuidado, de esta manera logra tener libre acceso para disponer de los bienes de la víctima.
Marla's victims are carefully selected prioritizing those who are alone, without direct heirs, and of course, with a sufficiently attractive patrimony; this is how a doctor linked to her organization suggests Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest) as a perfect candidate, an old woman "apparently" alone and without close relatives, whom they manage to falsely declare incapacitated, thus getting her legal custody, and with it, her riches. But Jennifer is not just any old lady, much less alone, she is the mother of a Russian mobster (Peter Dinklage) who will do everything possible to recover not only his mother but also the loot she kept for him and which Marla has seized.
Las víctimas de Marla son cuidadosamente seleccionadas priorizando aquellos que estén solos, sin herederos directos, y por supuesto, con un patrimonio lo suficientemente atractivo; es así como una doctora vinculada a su organización le sugiere como una candidata perfecta a Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest), una anciana “aparentemente” sola y sin parientes cercanos, a la que logran falsamente declarar incapacitada consiguiendo así su custodia legal, y con ella, sus riquezas. Pero Jennifer no es cualquier anciana, mucho menos está sola, ella es la madre de un mafioso ruso (Peter Dinklage) que hará todo lo posible por recuperar no solo a su madre, sino también al botín que le guardaba y del cual Marla se ha apoderado.
At first Roman, Jennifer's powerful and mafia-like son tries to persuade Marla with legal threats and blackmail, without considering that she is an ambitious and unscrupulous woman who is not willing to give up so easily; on the contrary, far from feeling threatened, she believes she is skillful enough to challenge him, to the point of putting him at a disadvantage. The actions of both give meaning to the old saying: God makes them and the devil brings them together; greed weaves its own web, in the midst of a legal system whose loopholes encourage abuse.
En un principio Roman, el poderoso y mafioso hijo de Jennifer, intenta persuadir a Marla con amenazas legales y chantaje, sin considerar que ella es una mujer tan ambiciosa como inescrupulosa que no está dispuesta a renunciar tan fácilmente, por el contrario, lejos de sentirse amenazada se cree lo suficiente habilidosa como para desafiarlo, al punto de ponerlo en desventaja. Las acciones de ambos dan sentido al viejo dicho que reza: Dios los hace y el diablo los junta; la codicia teje su propia red, en medio de un sistema jurídico cuyos vacíos legales propician el abuso.
I really hated Marla, that character is so well played by Rosamund Pike, that you come to loathe her, she is a ruthless being, without feelings or values, she is perverse, cynical, evil... there are so many signs of injustice in that film that it is disturbing, it overwhelms to the point of despair to suppose that something like that could happen to anyone, helpless elderly abused before the indolent gaze of justice that should protect them. I have always felt a special empathy for the elderly, they make me very tender, so seeing what they did to them with such perversion, seeing their suffering in the midst of their helplessness made me so angry that I wished the worst for Marla and her people.
Odié a Marla, de verdad, ese personaje está tan bien interpretado por Rosamund Pike, que llegas a aborrecerlo, es un ser despiadado, sin sentimientos ni valores, es perversa, cínica, mala…hay tantas muestras de injusticia en esa película que resulta perturbador, abruma al punto de desespero suponer que a cualquiera le pueda pasar algo así, ancianos indefensos abusados ante la mirada indolente de la justicia que debería protegerles. Siempre he sentido una especial empatía por los adultos mayores, me producen mucha ternura, por eso ver lo que les hacían con tanta perversión, ver su sufrimiento en medio de su indefensión me dio tanta rabia, que deseé lo peor para Marla y su gente.
I hated the story, I loved the movie, every performance is worthy of a standing ovation, especially Rosamund Pike's, that's why at the beginning I mentioned that her Golden Globe for Best Actress was well deserved, her performance is brilliant, to love her and hate her at the same time. Not to mention Peter Dinklage, he was my favorite in Games of Throne, and he continues to show why he is great. Sorry for taking so long to see this movie, super recommended, even though it's a comedy, it will make you feel a little bit of everything.
Odié la historia, amé la película, cada actuación es digna de ovación, en especial la de Rosamund Pike, por ello al principio mencioné que estuvo muy bien merecido su Globo de Oro como mejor actriz, su actuación es brillante, como para amarla y odiarla al mismo tiempo. Ni hablar Peter Dinklage, fue mi favorito en Juegos de Trono, y sigue demostrando el por qué, es estupendo. Lamento haberle dando tantas largas para ver esta película, super recomendada, a pesar de ser comedia, les hará sentir de todo un poco.
