Each country has its own realities, some with more accentuated problems than others as a result of their systems of government; but all with internal crises to resolve, whether political, economic, social, cultural, religious, etc... Spain is no exception, despite being the refuge destination for many immigrants who leave their countries of origin in search of a better future, in Spain, there are also internal struggles that show their own cracks.
The already severe economic recession that had been dragging on since the 2008 crisis has added the world pandemic, the energy crisis, the war conflicts, and inflation; which in the long run has worsened the already existing economic and social crisis in the Iberian country. Between eating and paying the rent or the mortgage, the first is a priority, surviving is the natural response to which the human being obeys, which does not be funny to creditors, landlords, or banks, for them, there is also a dilemma to deal with: collect the debt or go bankrupt.
In economics, one thing derives from another, and all of them, in turn, trigger new events. It is like a house of cards, one false move and everything falls apart. A recession or decrease in a nation's economic growth limits consumption and the demand for goods and services, which obviously results in an increase in the unemployment rate. Unemployment, in turn, puts the most vulnerable families in check, preventing them from honoring their commitments and paying their debts, even if it means losing their homes. This is the perverse formula that has led to at least 100 families becoming homeless every day after eviction orders are executed as a result of non-payment of mortgages to the bank or rent to the owner of the property.
Cada país tiene sus propias realidades, algunos, con problemas más acentuados que otros, producto de sus sistemas de gobierno; pero todos, con crisis internas que resolver, bien sean políticas, económicas, sociales, culturales, religiosas, etc... España, no es la excepción, a pesar de ser el destino refugio de muchos inmigrantes que abandonan sus países de origen en busca de un mejor futuro, en España también hay luchas internas que evidencian sus propias grietas.
A la ya marcada recesión económica que se arrastraba desde la crisis del 2008, se ha sumado la pandemia mundial, la crisis energética, los conflictos bélicos, la inflación; lo que a la larga ha agudizado la crisis económica y social ya existente en el país ibérico. Entre comer y pagar el arriendo o la hipoteca, lo primero es prioritario, sobrevivir es la respuesta natural a la que el ser humano obedece, lo que no hace gracia a acreedores, arrendadores o bancos, para ellos también hay un dilema que atender: cobrar las deudas o quebrar.
En economía, una cosa deriva de otra, y todas a su vez, van desencadenando nuevos eventos. Es como un castillo de naipes, un movimiento en falso y todo se viene abajo. La recesión o disminución en el crecimiento económico de una nación, limita el consumo y la demanda de bienes y servicios, lo que evidentemente se traduce en un aumento en la tasa de desempleos. El desempleo por su parte, pone en jaque a las familias más vulnerables impidiéndoles honrar sus compromisos y pagar sus deudas, aunque ello signifique perder sus hogares. Esa es la perversa fórmula que ha llevado a que al menos 100 familias diariamente queden sin techo tras ejecutarse las órdenes de desahucios (desalojos) como consecuencia del impago de hipotecas al banco o del alquiler al propietario del inmueble.

Ha sido tan alarmante la cifra de desahucios en los últimos años, que un grupo de actores encabezados por Penélope Cruz unieron sus talentos para dejar en evidencia ante mundo de esta situación, y lo hicieron a través de una película que se estrenó el año pasado bajo el nombre de En Los Márgenes. En esta película, Penélope Cruz interpreta tal vez a la mujer promedio del país que depende de un salario para sobrevivir, que hace malabares para llegar a fin de mes, con un hijo pequeño que mantener, un marido inmigrante sin trabajo formal, y con una orden de desahucio en puerta.
Las vicisitudes a las que se enfrenta Azucena (Penélope Cruz), dan muestra de su resiliencia y fortaleza para mantenerse firme en defender sus derechos. Como todo en esta vida, caer en desgracia es la oportunidad de saber con quienes verdaderamente se cuenta en las buenas y en las malas. Dicen que en la viña del Señor hay de todo, quienes se regodean del dolor ajeno, y también, quienes se solidarizan y empatizan con el prójimo.
On the Fringe, the film openly denounces the social crisis that the country is going through, and the indifference of the institutions or of some officials, but it also highlights the goodwill of those who are willing to help others with their good deeds, despite their personal or professional interests. The film is summarized in a long day in which several stories converge in the same reality, making it clear that no one is exempt from being a victim of circumstances, and that as its own slogan says "24 hours can change a life".
The film is a Spanish production directed by Juan Diego Botto and stars Penélope Cruz and Luis Tosar. They have been nominated for the Goya Awards 2023 to be held next February 11, as the best new director, best supporting actress, and best leading actor, respectively. In addition, the film has also achieved two additional nominations for the categories of best newcomer and best original song.
It is a very well-made film, with a sharp critique of the current system and with a story so well told that the drama per se manages to connect with the emotions of the audience. I think the story finally has enough elements to empathize with a wide audience: the citizens of origin, the immigrants, the entrepreneurs, the public officials, and even the government itself. For those who are open to the discernment of political, economic, and social issues, without passion that obscures reason, I recommend watching it, it is a film that you will enjoy.
En Los Márgenes, se denuncia abiertamente la crisis social que atraviesa el país, la indiferencia de las instituciones o de algunos funcionarios, pero también se destaca la buena voluntad de quienes están dispuestos a ayudar a otros con sus buenas acciones, muy a pesar de sus intereses personales o profesionales. La película se resume en un largo día en el que varias historias convergen en una misma realidad, dejando en claro que nadie está exento de ser víctima de las circunstancias, y que como reza su propio slogan “24 horas pueden cambiar una vida”.
La película, es una producción española dirigida por Juan Diego Botto y protagonizada por Penélope Cruz y Luis Tosar. Los 3 han sido nominados a los Premios Goya 2023 que se celebrarán el próximo 11 de febrero, como mejor dirección novel, mejor actriz de reparto y mejor actor protagonista, respectivamente. Además, la película ha logrado también dos nominaciones adicionales para las categorías de mejor actor revelación y mejor canción original.
Es una película muy bien lograda, con una crítica aguda al sistema actual y con una historia tan bien contada que el drama per se logra conectar con las emociones de la audiencia. Creo que la historia finalmente tiene elementos suficientes para empatizar con un gran público: los ciudadanos de origen, los inmigrantes, los emprendedores, los funcionarios públicos, y hasta el propio gobierno. Para quienes están abiertos al discernimiento de temas de orden político, económico y social, sin apasionamientos que opaquen la razón, les recomiendo verla, es una película que podrán disfrutar.
