Last February 16 was the Disney+ premiere of Ron's Gone Wrong, a movie that my children were eager to see, they were counting the days for the date, and when it was finally available they ran out to see it, they were so delighted that over the weekend they insisted me to see it with the promise that I was going to love it, and they were not wrong, I was fascinated by it. How could I not love it? if it is an animated movie closely related to the world of technology.
El pasado 16 de febrero fue el estreno en Disney+ de Ron da error, una película que mis hijos estaban ansiosos de ver, contaban los días para la fecha, y cuando finalmente estuvo disponible salieron corriendo a verla, quedaron tan encantados que el fin de semana me insistieron que la viera con la promesa de que la iba a amar, y no se equivocaron, me fascinó. Cómo no me iba a gustar, si es una película animada estrechamente relacionada con el mundo de la tecnología.
In Ron's Gone Wrong, the future is increasingly virtual, to the point that having friends no longer depends on human contact, but on the algorithmic analysis of the interests of people connected to the Internet and social networks, and the successful "match" to add new contacts will depend on their coincidence. This task is in charge of a friendly robot (the Bubble Bot) that all children (except Barney) have, he is their "best friend out of the box", as shown on the sticker with which it is marketed.
The B-Bots are super cute little robots, imagine a Baymax but tiny, a kind of fashion toy for children, which simply activate them to connect to the large Bubble network and download all the information associated with each child (publications, friends, photos, preferences), the premise is that by knowing them so well the B-Bot thus becomes their new best friend, and therefore is able to identify possible new friends for each child according to similar likes and dislikes. For Bubble, the company in charge of developing the Bubble Bots, these are the solution for those children who find it difficult to make friends on their own, either because they feel insecure, lonely, or perhaps simply shy, so that "the algorithm for friendship" facilitates the process.
En Ron da error, el futuro es cada vez más virtual, al punto que lograr tener amigos ya no depende del contacto humano, sino que depende del análisis algorítmico de las aficiones entre las personas vinculadas a internet y las redes sociales, de su coincidencia dependerá ese “match” exitoso para sumar nuevos contactos. Esta tarea está a cargo de un amigable robot (el Bubble Bot) que todos los niños (menos Barney) tienen, él es su "mejor amigo salido de la caja”, tal y como lo deja ver el sticker con el que se comercializa.
Los B-Bots son unos pequeños robots super cuchis, imagínense un Baymax pero pequeñito, una especie de juguete de moda para los niños, los cuales basta con activarlos para que se conecten a la gran red de Bubble y descarguen toda la información asociada a cada niño (publicaciones, amigos, fotos, preferencias), la premisa es que al conocerlos tan bien el B-Bot se convierte así en su nuevo mejor amigo, y por ende sea capaz de identificar según gustos similares posibles nuevos amigos para cada niño. Para Bubble, la compañía encargada del desarrollo de los Bubble Bots, éstos son la solución para aquellos niños a los que les cuesta hacer amigos por si solos, bien sea porque se sienten inseguros, solos, o tal vez por simple timidez, de manera que "el algoritmo para la amistad” les facilita el proceso.
Having a B-Bot is the coolest thing of the moment, at Nonsuch High School everyone has one, except Barney, because technology comes at a price, one that families like Barney's father and grandmother can't afford. Obviously, being the trend of the moment Barney wishes to have his B-Bot too, in fact, not having one subjects him to the bullying of his classmates, which makes him feel completely out of step with the rest. When Barney's birthday arrives, what he wants most is to receive his new best friend out of the box, and although that was not an option for his father and grandmother, they decide at all costs to please the boy before the end of the day, and due to the refusal of availability of the robot in Bubble's stores, they end up buying one on the black market that turns out to be defective.
The B-Bot they buy for Barney has an error in its original algorithm, the software load is not complete, it does not connect to the network, does not recognize him, and does not do everything that other robots of his generation do, so Barney will appeal to Ron's artificial intelligence to teach him how to be his friend. Here begins a wonderful journey of discovery and emotions, in which the true value of friendship is exalted, which is clear that it must be given in a bidirectional way, in which both parties give their all to bet on that relationship.
Tener un B-Bot es lo más cool del momento, en la secundaria Nonsuch todos tienen uno, menos Barney, pues la tecnología tiene un precio, uno que familias como el padre y la abuela de Barney no se pueden permitir. Obvio, siendo la tendencia del momento Barney desea tener también su B-Bot, de hecho, no tenerlo lo somete a las burlas de sus compañeros, lo que lo hace sentirse completamente desencajado del resto. Llegado el día del cumpleaños de Barney lo que él más desea es recibir a su nuevo mejor amigo salido de la caja, y aunque esa no era una opción para su padre y abuela, ellos deciden a toda costa darle gusto al niño antes de que finalice el día, y ante la negativa de disponibilidad del robot en los almacenes de Bubble, terminan comprando uno en el mercado negro que resulta estar defectuoso.
El B-Bot que consiguen para Barney tiene un error en su algoritmo original, la carga del software no se completa, no se conecta a la red, no lo reconoce a él, y no hace todo lo que hacen los demás robots de su generación, así que Barney apelará a la inteligencia artificial de Ron para enseñarle como ser su amigo. Aquí comienza un viaje maravilloso de descubrimiento y emociones, en el que se enaltece el verdadero valor de la amistad, la cual queda claro que debe darse de forma bidireccional, en la que ambas partes entreguen todo de si por apostar a esa relación.
The error in Ron's programming turns him into a unique device capable of making decisions beyond his lines of code, which awakens the interest in the other children who also want their B-Bots to reach that freedom that violates the security of the system, generating anarchy and chaos among the robots, this reminded me a lot of the movie The Mitchells vs. the machines because there is a moment when the robots deliberately act beyond human control, which ends up causing damage to the emotions of the children, who feel exposed and affected by certain actions that subject them to public scrutiny (when you see the movie you will understand what I mean in this part, I am careful not to make any spoilers). I found this very curious, at the beginning, Ron is a source of embarrassment to Barney for being different, the other kids make fun of his B-Bot, and then his "error" makes him highly attractive to others. As in the story of the ugly duckling, Ron's wrongness becomes his most valuable quality.
El error en la programación de Ron lo convierte en un dispositivo único capaz de tomar decisiones más allá de sus líneas de códigos, lo que despierta el interés en los otros niños que también desean que sus B-Bots alcancen esa libertad que vulnera la seguridad del sistema, generando anarquía y caos entre los robots, esto me recordó mucho a la película Los Mitchell contra las máquinas, porque hay un momento en el que los robots actúan deliberadamente más allá del control humano, lo que termina causando daño en las emociones de los niños, que se sienten expuestos y afectados por ciertas acciones que los someten al escarnio público (cuando vean la película entenderán a lo que me refiero en esta parte, me cuido de no hacerles ningún tipo de spoiler). Esto me pareció muy curioso, al inicio Ron es motivo de vergüenza para Barney por ser diferente, los otros niños se burlan de su B-Bot, y luego su “error” lo hace altamente atractivo para los demás. Como en el cuento del patito feo, el error en Ron se convierte en su más valiosa cualidad.
Let's keep talking about Ron, because you're going to love him, he's a crazy robot, I'd say he's a bit subversive, he only wants to please Barney to fulfill the purpose for which he was created, to become his best friend. Ron's dialogues are super funny, as I watched him I couldn't help but compare him to Baymax from Big Heroes, he's that cute, and cuddly, only tiny, he's like a baby Baymax XD. Barney does a great job with him, and the bond that is born between the two is truly beautiful, to the point that, despite facing the power of an entire corporation, they struggle to assert a truly genuine friendship.
Sigamos hablando de Ron, porque lo van a amar, es un robot alocado, yo diría que medio subversivo que solo quiere agradar a Barney para cumplir con el cometido para el cual fue creado, convertirse en su mejor amigo. Los diálogos de Ron son super divertidos, a medida que lo veía no podía dejar de compararlo con Baymax el de Grandes Héroes, es así de simpático, y tierno, solo que pequeñito, es como un baby Baymax XD. Barney hace un gran trabajo con él, y el vinculo que nace entre ambos es verdaderamente hermoso, al punto que, a pesar de enfrentarse al poderío de toda una corporación, luchan por hacer valer una amistad verdaderamente genuina.
The film has a wonderful message, I think every parent should see it, nowadays we face the challenge of raising children who are inevitably immersed in technology, and sometimes that world consumes them and isolates them, leading them to value that virtual life more than reality itself. However, I cannot be at all a detractor of technology, never, and the film does not pretend anything similar either; on the contrary, it promotes the importance of a healthy and balanced relationship with it in which we can truly take advantage of the technological advantages without being emotionally affected by its influence. The contribution of technology is undeniable, it has been absolutely disruptive, so much so, that it has taken humanity to the next level, but always as a tool at our service, never as a substitute for human action per se.
La película tiene un mensaje maravilloso, creo que todo padre debería verla, en la actualidad nos enfrentamos al reto de criar niños que inevitablemente están inmersos en la tecnología, y en ocasiones ese mundo los consume y los aísla, llevándolos a valorar más esa vida virtual que la misma realidad. Sin embargo, yo no puedo ser para nada una detractora de la tecnología, nunca, y la película tampoco pretende algo similar; por el contrario, fomenta la importancia de una relación sana y equilibrada con ella en la que podamos verdaderamente aprovechar las ventajas tecnológicas sin que su influencia nos afecte emocionalmente. El aporte de la tecnología es innegable, ha sido absolutamente disruptiva, tanto, que ha llevado a la humanidad a un siguiente nivel, pero siempre como una herramienta a nuestro servicio, nunca como un sustituto de la acción humana per se.
Cultivating effective relationships is a purely human act, in which although we can make use of technology as a resource to break the barriers of distance and keep in touch, it can never be subordinated or conditioned to its intervention. Friendship, as it is presented in this animated film, cannot be born according to the design of a computer algorithm as an imposed decision, because it is a relationship that involves feelings and emotions that only human beings are capable of developing.
Cultivar las relaciones afectivas es un acto netamente humano, en el que si bien podemos hacer uso de la tecnología como recurso para romper las barreras de la distancia y mantener el contacto, no puede estar nunca supeditado ni condicionado a la intervención de ésta. La amistad, tal y como se plantea en esta película animada, no puede nacer según lo diseñado en un algoritmo computacional como una decisión impuesta, pues es una relación que involucra sentimientos y emociones que hasta ahora solo los seres humanos somos capaces de desarrollar.
If telling you that the movie is a spectacle not to be missed is not enough, then I will tell you that one of the voices is in charge of the great Olivia Colman, there I leave you, you will see...well there are also the voices of two stars of The Hangover: Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, that as candy to encourage you to see it, you will not regret it. By the way, I should clarify that although the movie is available on Disney+ since a few days ago, its theatrical release took place in October last year.
Si decirles que la película es un espectáculo que no se deben perder no es suficiente, entonces les diré que una de las voces está a cargo de la gran Olivia Colman, allí se los dejo, ustedes verán…bueno también están las voces de dos estrellas The Hangover: Zach Galifianakis y Ed Helms, eso como un caramelito para que se animen a verla, no se van a arrepentir. Por cierto, debo aclarar que si bien la película está disponible en Disney+ desde hace pocos días, su estreno en cines se llevó a cabo en octubre del año pasado.
