When I watched Train to Busan, I discovered a film that isn’t limited to zombies and fear, but also tells a story about human nature when faced with extraordinary situations. A train ride that initially seemed perfectly ordinary turns into a struggle for survival when a dangerous virus spreads across the country. The passengers suddenly find themselves faced with difficult decisions. But a question arises: when a person is fighting to save their own life, are they still capable of thinking about others?
Cuando vi Train to Busan, descubrí una película que no se limita a los zombis y al miedo, sino que también cuenta una historia sobre la naturaleza humana ante situaciones extraordinarias. Un viaje en tren que al principio parecía totalmente normal se convierte en una lucha por la supervivencia cuando un peligroso virus se propaga por el país. Los pasajeros se ven de repente obligados a tomar decisiones difíciles. Pero surge una pregunta: cuando una persona lucha por salvar su propia vida, sigue siendo capaz de pensar en los demás?
The character of Seok-woo, played by Gong Yoo, brings an emotional dimension to the story. At first, he is a father primarily concerned with his work and personal interests. Yet the journey he embarks on with his daughter Su-an becomes a true lesson in fatherhood and responsibility. Faced with danger, he begins to realize that the most important things are neither work nor personal success, but the people he loves. His evolution shows that, at times, a difficult situation can push someone to reevaluate their priorities and understand what truly matters in their life.
El personaje de Seok-woo, interpretado por Gong Yoo, aporta una dimensión emocional a la historia. Al principio, es un padre preocupado principalmente por su trabajo y sus intereses personales. Sin embargo, el viaje que emprende con su hija Su-an se convierte en una auténtica lección sobre la paternidad y la responsabilidad. Ante el peligro, empieza a comprender que lo más importante no es ni el trabajo ni el éxito personal, sino las personas a las que quiere. Sang-hwa, played by Ma Dong-seok, is also a character who leaves a strong impression. He is a brave man who doesn’t hesitate to come to others’ aid. For example, when the passengers try to make their way through the zombie-infested train cars, he shows remarkable courage and is willing to protect the others. This highlights the difference between someone who uses their strength solely for themselves and someone who uses it to save those around them. Isn’t that one of the true definitions of courage?
Sang-hwa, interpretado por Ma Dong-seok, es también un personaje que deja una fuerte impresión. Es un hombre valiente que no duda en acudir en ayuda de los demás. Por ejemplo, cuando los pasajeros intentan atravesar los vagones invadidos por los zombis, demuestra un valor extraordinario y se muestra dispuesto a proteger a los demás. Así se aprecia la diferencia entre una persona que utiliza su fuerza únicamente para sí misma y otra que la emplea para salvar a quienes la rodean. On the other hand, the film clearly shows how fear can change people. Some passengers show compassion and solidarity, while others view others as obstacles to their own survival. The character of Yon-suk perfectly illustrates how selfishness and excessive fear can drive someone to make decisions that endanger others. This makes the story much more than just a clash between humans and zombies: it also highlights the conflict between humanity and selfishness.
Por otro lado, la película muestra claramente cómo el miedo puede transformar a las personas. Algunos pasajeros dan muestras de compasión y solidaridad, mientras que otros ven a los demás como obstáculos para su propia supervivencia. El personaje de Yon-suk ilustra a la perfección cómo el egoísmo y un miedo excesivo pueden llevar a alguien a tomar decisiones que ponen en peligro a los demás. The relationship between Seok-woo and Su-an brings a special emotional depth to the film. Su-an isn’t just a little girl who needs to be saved she also shows a compassion and understanding that adults sometimes lack. At several points, her behavior reminds us that, no matter the circumstances even when fear takes hold we must not lose our kindness. The father and daughter also show us that the true meaning of family love is often revealed when we’re going through difficult times.
La relación entre Seok-woo y Su-an aporta una emoción especial a la película. Su-an no es simplemente una niña pequeña que necesita ser rescatada también demuestra una compasión y una comprensión de las que a veces carecen los adultos. En varios momentos, su comportamiento nos recuerda que, sean cuales sean las circunstancias, incluso cuando el miedo se impone, no hay que perder la bondad. El padre y su hija también nos muestran que el amor familiar a veces cobra todo su sentido cuando se atraviesan momentos difíciles.
It’s also worth noting how the film builds suspense. The train, being a closed and confined space, prevents the passengers from easily escaping danger. Every door that’s opened and every car they pass through becomes a new ordeal. These scenes immerse viewers in the characters’ situation and keep them constantly wanting to know what will happen next.
También hay que destacar la forma en que la película crea suspense. El tren, al ser un espacio cerrado y limitado, impide que los pasajeros escapen fácilmente del peligro. Cada puerta que se abre y cada vagón que se atraviesa se convierten en una nueva prueba. Estas escenas sumergen a los espectadores en la situación de los personajes y les hacen sentir constantemente la necesidad de saber qué va a pasar a continuación.
The film's ending adds a particularly moving dimension to the story. Seok-woo’s journey and the decisions he makes show just how a parent’s love can be more valuable than one’s own interests. This conclusion reminds us that courage isn’t always about fighting or possessing great physical strength sometimes, it’s simply found in the choices we make for the people we love.
El final de la película aporta una dimensión especialmente conmovedora a la historia. La evolución de Seok-woo y las decisiones que toma demuestran hasta qué punto el amor de un padre puede tener más valor que sus propios intereses. In my opinion, Train to Busan is a film that blends horror, action, and human emotion very well. It shows us that when everything around us changes, what others will remember isn't just how we saved our own lives, but also how we treated the people around us.
En mi opinión, Train to Busan es una película que combina muy bien el terror, la acción y las emociones humanas. Nos muestra que, cuando todo cambia a nuestro alrededor, lo que los demás recordarán no será solo cómo salvamos nuestra propia vida, sino también cómo tratamos a las personas que nos rodeaban.
Finally, if you had been on that train, would you have chosen to save only your own life, or would you have been willing to take risks to help someone else? That’s one of the questions this movie left me with after watching it.
