Masters of the Universe: He-man still have the power but lost some brain.

  Amazon Prime had a bunch of releases in the last few weeks: The new Mario movie, Project Hail Mary, and Masters of the Universe. Those were in the movies very recently. And I watched Project Hail Mary in the theatres. Masters of the Universe brings back a bit of my wife's and my childhood, since we watched a lot of He-Man cartoons and the original 1987 movie. To be frank, I knew that this movie could be a hit or miss, and I was more excited to start watching the new Netflix release called "The Last House", but I had to kill my curiosity.

  Maybe the most famous author in the movie is Jared Leto; he won the Academy Awards with "Dallas Buyers Club" in 2014. He is the bad guy Skeletor; well, since it is a CGI-made character, we obviously only hear his voice. One interesting thing was the inclusion of two Brazilian-origin actresses, Camila Mendes as Teela) and Morena Baccarin (as Sorceress). Interesting that both of them built their career in the US, and Camila was even born in the US. But I heard that the strategy was to target Brazilian fans since the Cartoon was a big hit in the country compared to other countries.

  The story is all around the prince of this magical place called Eternia, who lived in exile from our regular world after Skeletor won the battle, killing and arresting many people of his land. Everything because Skeletor was behind the famous sword that could bring unlimited power. Prince Adam found the sword in our regular world, and of course people from Eternia also came in search of the sword. But Teela, a former childhood friend of Adam, found him first and brought him and the sword back where he could turn into this big muscle guy with the power of the sword called He-Man.

  The story hits some nostalgia, but there are awkward moments that made me rate this movie as a B movie, only worth watching if you don't have anything else. First reason: Prince Adam's role is feeble. He is not only pure heart but he is dumb as a door. It is the stereotype of the steroid gym guy: Dumb and strong. The jokes are terrible, and probably made to bring a young audience for the hype. It was so bad that the death of his father in his hands, which should have been more emotive, was a moment for me to hope for a skip of the scene; you couldn't feel the emotion of the moment. Another problem with the movie is the length of 2h12 for a movie that sometimes is slow is terrible.

  So in the end we have a long movie with bad acting and a terrible script. The only thing that saved is that you could remember a bit of the grandiosity of He-Man. If you really miss that era, I highly recommend a 2021 series that, for some reason, they didn't release a season 2 called Masters of the Universe: Revelation. It is spectacular; it is an animation but with a more adult theme.

E eu assisti Project Hail Mary nos cinemas. Masters of the Universe traz de volta um pouco da infância minha e da minha esposa, já que assistimos muitos desenhos do He-Man e o filme original de 1987. Para ser sincero, eu sabia que este filme poderia ser um acerto ou um erro, e eu estava mais animado para começar a assistir ao novo lançamento da Netflix chamado "The Last House", mas eu precisava matar minha curiosidade.

  Talvez o ator mais famoso do filme seja Jared Leto; ele venceu o Oscar com "Dallas Buyers Club" em 2014. Ele é o vilão Skeletor; bem, como é um personagem feito em CGI, obviamente só ouvimos sua voz. Uma coisa interessante foi a inclusão de duas atrizes de origem brasileira, Camila Mendes (como Teela) e Morena Baccarin (como Feiticeira). Interessante que ambas construíram suas carreiras nos Estados Unidos, e Camila até nasceu nos EUA. Mas ouvi dizer que a estratégia era atingir os fãs brasileiros, já que o desenho foi um enorme sucesso no país em comparação com outros países.

  A história gira em torno do príncipe deste lugar mágico chamado Eternia, que vivia exilado do nosso mundo comum depois que Skeletor venceu a batalha, matando e prendendo muitas pessoas de sua terra. Tudo porque Skeletor estava atrás da famosa espada que poderia conceder poder ilimitado. O Príncipe Adam encontrou a espada no nosso mundo comum e, claro, pessoas de Eternia também vieram em busca dela. Mas Teela, uma antiga amiga de infância de Adam, o encontrou primeiro e levou ele e a espada de volta para onde ele poderia se transformar nesse grande cara musculoso com o poder da espada chamado He-Man.

  A história traz um pouco de nostalgia, mas há momentos estranhos que me fizeram classificar este filme como um filme B, que só vale a pena assistir se você não tiver nada melhor para ver. A primeira razão: o papel do Príncipe Adam é fraco. Ele não é apenas puro de coração, mas também é burro como uma porta. É o estereótipo do cara da academia que toma esteroides: burro e forte. As piadas são terríveis e provavelmente foram feitas para atrair um público jovem por causa do hype. Foi tão ruim que a morte de seu pai em seus braços, que deveria ter sido mais emocionante, foi um momento em que eu torcia para que a cena fosse pulada; você não conseguia sentir a emoção do momento. Outro problema do filme é a duração de 2h12; para um filme que às vezes é lento, isso é terrível.

  Então, no final, temos um filme longo com atuações ruins e um roteiro terrível. A única coisa que salvou foi que você consegue se lembrar um pouco da grandiosidade do He-Man. Se você realmente sente falta daquela época, recomendo muito uma série de 2021 que, por algum motivo, eles não lançaram uma temporada 2 chamada Masters of the Universe: Revelation. É espetacular; é uma animação, mas com uma temática mais adulta.
