Don’t Look Up
The constant probability of a celestial comet colliding with Earth and undermining human life has already created concern, memes and inspiration. The film Don't Look Up, released by Netflix on the eve of Christmas, centers these 3 situations to, in less than a week available on the platform, achieve an almost astronomical consequence. Dividing the criticism of critics and audiences on social networks, the feature film by director Adam McKay (The Huge Gamble, Vice and All for a Hole) is an almost omnipresent issue in discussions, especially on the internet.

The film uses humor and suspense to tell the tale of 2 scientists who find a solid space body approaching the world and try to warn the authorities and the press to take action. However, they participate in a political game of interests in which science is not taken seriously. And this belongs to the aspects that have provoked debates between those who perceive in the Hollywood production a social criticism of recent times and those who think that the arguments of the film are superficial.
Tragic comedy
The feature film, based on "probable real events", as the slogan itself says, brings us a sample of how the human race reacts to bad news. Prior to this, on the real planet, we had a sample of this attitude with the pandemic coronavirus disease, with many people doubting the seriousness of the virus and questioning the need for vaccines. Perhaps, this causes the sense of despair to be even greater once we see what happens on the tape.
In Don't Look Up, Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make up the pair of astronomers who have discovered that a comet is heading towards Earth and the time is drastically short to try to alter its trajectory. For that, they require the support of the authorities, especially the U.S., because they are part of the world's greatest power. It is then once the solution that simulated viable becomes more and more desperate.
Don't look up
As can happen in real life, the population only begins to understand what is happening once the comet becomes visible in the sky, but it is already too late. The huge message of Don't Look Up, therefore, is that the population needs to believe and trust science, however that in other words is becoming increasingly complex as we don't continually get good answers. And we ourselves, as humans, are accustomed to closing our eyes to that happens to achieve which we possess.
Netflix's feature film then accomplishes a rather difficult job of generating a good production with cartoonish, cartoonish humor. The expectation with the leading trio, formed by monumental Oscar winners, already denounced what was about to happen. The film consolidates itself as one of the biggest releases of the year for the streaming platform, and not only for the quality of the cast, direction and visual effects, but also for approaching the end of the whole world with the most feasible human attitude, regardless of how it is done.
