I dont have the right words to use for this movie so ill go all out and express myself... The movie stars Idris Elba as the British Prime Minister, Sam Clarke and John Cena as the American President, Will Derringer... The funny thing is that these two absolutely cannot stand each other because They're constantly competing, arguing and trying to prove who's the bigger man but Then, of course, things go completely wrong and they are suddenly forced to work together and that's basically where the fun begins..
Their chemistry is probably my favorite thing about the movie. Idris Elba plays the serious, disciplined guy while John Cena is basically the complete opposite... Cena's character is loud, confident and a little too pleased with himself and watching Idris constantly get annoyed by him was actually hilarious...
John Cena especially surprised me... The guy knows how to make himself look stupid without actually making the character unlikeabl and Some of his jokes are ridiculous, but his timing is really good while Idris Elba plays the straight man perfectly, so their back-and-forth works...
Then there's Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Noel Bisset, an MI6 agent who gets caught up in the whole mess and eventually becomes the person keeping these two alive And honestly, I thought she was really good.... She gets some proper action scenes and doesn't feel like she's just there to complete the cast... Her character also has a history with Sam, which adds another little layer to everything...
The actual story is pretty crazy. There's a conspiracy involving an arms dealer, political sabotage and an attempt to basically destroy the relationship between major world powers so After Air Force One is attacked, the President and Prime Minister end up stranded and have to survive while being hunted across Europe...
Now, if you're looking for realistic politics, please don't watch this movie because the political side of the story is really just an excuse to create an action movie and I'm very okay with that.
Just imagine puting two world leaders in the middle of an international crisis.
The action is pretty entertaining too but the biggest weakness for me is the story...It's very predictable.
You can see most of the twists coming from quite far away, and some of the political conspiracy stuff doesn't really have enough depth to make you care about it...
I also liked that underneath all the explosions and jokes, there's a simple message about putting differences aside when something bigger is at stake...
Sam and Will spend most of the movie trying to prove they're better than each other but Eventually, they realize that none of that matters when they're both in serious danger...It's nothing groundbreaking, but it works.
There are definitely jokes that didn't land for me, and some scenes felt unnecessarily silly But then again, the movie is clearly going for that old-school action comedy feeling.... I was entertained.
