A few words about SW and opinion about season 3 of "The Mandalorian" / Parę słów o SW i opinia o 3 sezonie "The Mandalorian"

A few weeks ago, the latest season of the best or second best SW series ended (depending on whether you prefer the adventures of Din Djarin or "Andor", I haven't seen the latter and probably won't watch it because its creator abandoned it a few days ago - I am writing this May 13). I didn't have high expectations for him, seasons 1 and 2 had their advantages, but I was a rather moderate fan of them. Yes, I liked some things very much, such as making better use of the wealth of this universe that has grown over the years, or playing with this world and developing it (as opposed to filmmakers who are less brave and creative), but I was disturbed by the holey script, excessive politeness of the story, etc. I don't always like the direction of development that has been taken... In fact, I've criticized it more often, but I'd rather watch it than the ideas of Kathleen Kennedy and others. At least I feel that Jon Favreau and his people like and understand this world unlike them. References to the predecessors are more subtle and natural, I felt them both at the minimum level and in the further, wider plan. And above all, it's still the same, very simplistic, fairy-tale story in space for the whole family. For this reason, I stopped watching "Star Wars", although in "The Mandalorian" it's to be experienced - we don't have long lines, the dialogues are more concrete, I don't laugh so often at the idiocy that someone wrote (except for the episode when the protagonist tried to do bounty hunter from Grog... It was super stupid). And if additional episodes (i.e. fillers) to develop the universe are clearly separated from the main content, like fillers in DB / OP anime, then I don't mind.

A few months ago, I had a plan to revisit all three trilogies (first, Lucas prequels, Disney trilogy), but I dropped out on A New Hope. Maybe I wouldn't bounce back from other media (books or games, as long as they interest me and are properly made, according to the principles of their "craftsmanship"), but movies and series are too naive for me. Not to mention the other flaws are also obvious - especially in those parts where Lucas spent too much time... I feel like I'm commenting on DBZ because Toriyama has the same problem. Although no, Lucas is even worse on second thought. I can ignore the technical flaws, because the times are not those times, the budget was not big enough to make everything look great, although I will not pretend - the final battle is funny to me. As a kid and teenager, somehow I convinced myself that the Rebels were sending more ships to the Empire... Well, I wasn't the only one who saw it after a dozen years (although a few of my friends noticed it as kids xD)... They could add though some X-Wings with CGI, because it really feels more like a Mel Brooks parody, especially since George Lucas has been adding so much unnecessary stuff over the years without adding anything really relevant. Anyway, the final battle overflowed the cup of bitterness - yes, technical matters are unimportant to me, but since the plot makes me embarrassing, as if I was watching "Sailor Moon" (I'm not exaggerating, I genuinely felt like this during almost the entire screening, right after two droids were captured by the Gypsies of Tatooine), the smaller things start to annoy me as well. Like in a relationship where the relationship between two people started to burn out half a year ago. The Lucas prequels are equally worthless to me, the Disney trilogy makes me laugh, and the other two parts of the original trilogy... 5th part is still the best movie in the SW universe for me, and 6th seems too childish for me.

So "The Mandalorian" and the film crowning the existing (and those that will soon appear on D+) Favreau & Dave Filloni series, is my last link with the world, which has captivated millions of people around the world, including my father, who showed SW and to me. I will not cry when the above duo will finally end their micro-universe, which can happen even faster, because S3 had a very large drop in viewership, and in such a situation, you do not create a high-budget production, because you will most likely not make money from it. I'd like to say I'm going to miss him, but even if I did, there are so many titles coming out right now that it's impossible to make up for it. For me, it's such a cool, glamorous series in space - if I don't watch it, there will be another one that will be better without having the "Family Friendly" label. Since I started complaining, I'll bring up the subject of flaws. I have already written about the too simple and naive plot, the series maintains the tone and fairy-tale atmosphere characteristic of films from this universe, whether it will bother you depends on you, I think I have grown out of it. Also, the Empire (or its remnants, it doesn't really matter) is as stupid as ever. A huge threat that scares only from a distance, because when we get close to it, it's not so scary anymore. Eh, to waste the potential of Giancarlo Esposito, with his skills you could create a much better and more interesting character. I know that the bad guys in SW (except Emperor, Vader and a few isolated cases like Grand Admiral Thrawn) are usually clowns, but for three seasons I could not praise him once. i.e. sure, there were probably 2 or 3 brief exceptions, but since I don't remember them, they weren't that important. By the way, when he put on this armor from Beskar, I had the impression that I was watching low-budget sci-fi. It wasn't embarrassing, like the Nilfgaardian armor in the 1st season of "The Witcher", but only slightly better.

Speaking of clowns, I don't know who came up with Grog training. Or otherwise, the idea itself looks ok on paper, but it was badly executed and I felt like I had stepped back to the '90s, when a lousy family movie had such a disgustingly crude plot that even my 9-year-old me winced in disgust during the screening. It's gun shooting that's more like the water guns kids use to shoot each other on hot days. I don't see any sense in this scene, it was probably just made to show the adorable Baby Yoda. It's just a pity that they didn't do it inventively or really funny, unlike the next example. By comparison - Grogu and his droid from the finale was great, reminded me of a joke I heard from a handicapped stranger and a friend who years later said more or less the same thing - "I can finally fucking move like a normal person and not fucking cripple!" Yes, the idea was cheap too, I guess I can call it childish as well, but at least they came up with some good jokes. On the other hand, threads about the New Republic ... I felt like I was watching a cheap series that is not prepared for any specific audience, has known elements from various, equally bad creations and was created only to clog airtime. It also annoys me that the Mandalorians, a nation that the Empire feared, and the Jedi knights fought hard against them, are as strong as the script allows them to. Well, this has been bugging me since the first season, where in one episode the protagonist is a bad-ass, and in the next he falls over his own shoes as if he were a child. Poor editing of some scenes is also nothing new, although it seems to me that there were more of them in S3 than in S1. I mean such short shots as "Moff Gideon standing like Jesus on the cross" (scene from the final fight in the last episode) or cuts with other characters that add absolutely nothing, do not even show the emotional reactions of the characters, at least I see them I didn't notice. It's not a big problem, but it kept me out of my rhythm while watching.

m6.jpg

As for the advantages, well, we see a large budget. It seems to me that there are also fewer scenes where the creators could save, although this may just be my impression. On the other hand, they had it easier, because they already have assets from the previous two seasons ready. It is true that these are only 2 episodes (or at least it seems to me that if you put all the scenes and stuff them as if they were a normal episode, it would come out that much). I don't know what the budget for season 3 is, because I haven't come across such information, but 1 episode is said to cost an average of $15 million (some are cheaper, others more expensive, but after averaging it comes out like that). The average cost is probably a bit higher, because we have noticeably more scenes that could easily be found in a feature film. Of course, you can see that this is not a cinematic level when it comes to the refinement of the scenes, but after the number, of these scenes, their quality, content (some ideas could have been skipped or shortened, as if it was done in a production with a smaller budget), you can see that it's better . I must also praise the fights, so far I have mainly praised the head of the Mandalore sect (this season she also showed that she is an absolute elite when it comes to fighting), and in S3 we could still see how the slightly weaker, but still strong descendants of Mandalore fight. And every fight scene or bad-ass moment was very atmospheric and satisfying. In general, when it comes to cinematography, fights, showing this world and special effects, I have absolutely no complaints. This is the way!

m7.jpg

m8.jpg

To sum up, during one episode, I told my girlfriend that although this series annoys me sometimes, compared to ALL previous movies and series (because I skip games, I haven't played the new ones for too long, and the old ones still defend themselves), it pulls out the most elements from this universe that I liked in it. Watching it, I feel like somewhere deep in my heart, a fire is smoldering, which I feel now when playing "Doom Eternal", only much, much weaker. In both cases, you can see that it is made by people who like to do it, care about it and know what others love about it (minus the limitations resulting from the decisions of producers and the like - they give money, they require). The finale was epic, less minimalistic than the final battle of "A New Hope" (in terms of the number of units during the battle, etc.) and if only it wasn't for that kitschy Moff Gideon, who damn I don't like him, it would be even better. I wonder if season 4 will come out or if Disney is having Jon Favreau fit him into a smaller budget movie. Or will we say goodbye to the movie and get a 4th season that sums them all up? But where will there be a place for the Mandalorian and his little companion then? Well, we have to wait for Disney's official decision. And we can wait a long time for it, because the scriptwriters' strike is underway and its real effects will only be felt. As for me, 8/10.

Skoro zacząłem narzekać, to pociągnę temat wad.

m6.jpg

Jeśli chodzi o zalety, no to widzimy duży budżet. This is the way!
