Confieso que hay algunos géneros que no me atraen, pero luego al verlos me sorprenden tanto al punto de ver la película más de una vez para poder asimilarla y entenderla mejor. El niño con el piyama de rayas, no es un título que en mi opinión suene atractivo y me motive a verlo. Quizás se puede pensar que se trata de la historia de un inocente niño, como es su vida y su adaptación ante el mundo que lo rodea, algo bastante lejos de realidades dramáticas excesivas. Esta película la vi con unos amigos, en una tarde aburrida, la colocaron y no me quedó más remedio que verla.
I confess that there are some genres that don't appeal to me, but then when I see them they surprise me so much that I watch the movie more than once to be able to assimilate it and understand it better. The boy in the striped pajamas is not a title that in my opinion sounds attractive and motivates me to watch it. Perhaps it can be thought that it is the story of an innocent child, as is his life and his adaptation to the world around him, something quite far from excessive dramatic realities. I saw this movie with some friends, on a boring afternoon, they put it on and I had no choice but to watch it.

En la medida que fue avanzando la historia me fue atrapando. Este film cinematográfico remonta su historia en los tiempos de la segunda guerra mundial, año 1942. Imperaba el régimen nazi, y al ver esta película me empapé más en el tema, ya sabía algunas cosas atroces de aquellos tiempos, pero conocer esta parte de la historia, fue demasiado fuerte para mí.
As the story progressed, it caught me. This cinematographic film traces its history back to the times of the Second World War, in 1942. The Nazi regime prevailed, and when I saw this film I immersed myself more in the subject, I already knew some atrocious things about those times, but knowing this part of the story, it was too strong for me.
La narración fue hecha desde óptica inocente de un niño de 8 años, Bruno (Asa Butterfield), uno de los personajes principales de la historia. Ha dejado su vida en Berlín a causa de su padre, Ralf (David Thewlis), quien fue asignando a cumplir una misión en "Auschwitz", un lugar apartado y que a la vista del niño es aburrido e inhóspito.
The narration was made from the innocent perspective of an 8-year-old boy, Bruno (Asa Butterfield), one of the main characters in the story. He has left his life in Berlin because of his father, Ralf (David Thewlis), who was assigned to fulfill a mission in "Auschwitz", a secluded place that in the eyes of the child is boring and inhospitable.
Bruno se muda con sus padres y su hermana Gretel (Amber Beattie), extraña su antigua vida, sus amigos y su escuela. Su madre, Elsa (Vera Farmiga), no quiere que salga a explorar los alrededores, es un lugar nuevo y teme que pueda perderse o pasarle algo. No obstante, su curiosidad es más fuerte y a espaldas de su progenitora se da sus escapadillas. Desde su ventana, divisaba a lo lejos un granero (o al menos era lo que su mente ingenua le hacía creer) y a unos hombres con ropa a rayas que parecían trabajar sin parar, desde su inocencia, el chico describe las vestimentas como piyamas.
Bruno moves in with his parents and his sister Gretel (Amber Beattie), missing his old life, his friends and his school. His mother, Elsa (Vera Farmiga), does not want him to go out and explore the surroundings, it is a new place and she fears that he might get lost or something might happen to him. However, his curiosity is stronger and behind his mother's back he takes his escapades. From his window, he could see a barn in the distance (or at least that was what his naive mind led him to believe) and some men in striped clothes who seemed to work nonstop, from his innocence, the boy describes the clothes as pajamas.
Al acercarse a la “granja”, Bruno conoce y hace amistad con un niño de su edad, Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), con quien se ve a escondidas de su familia y a veces le llevaba comida. Con el pasar de los días, la madre de Bruno, se da cuenta que Auschwitz no es el lugar ideal para que vivan sus hijos y decide marcharse. Approaching the “farm”, Bruno meets and befriends a boy his age, Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), whom he meets behind the scenes of his family and sometimes brings him food. As the days go by, Bruno's mother realizes that Auschwitz is not the ideal place for her children to live and decides to leave. Meanwhile, Bruno continued to see Shmuel and sometimes he noticed that he was very sad. His friend confesses the reason for his sadness, he cannot find his father, whom he had not seen for several days. Before leaving, Bruno makes him a promise that in the end he will not be able to keep.

Bruno (Asa Butterfield): inocente, como cualquier niño de su edad, era curioso como es normal, quería jugar, pero vive el choque de un cambio drástico de vida y es por ello que Shmuel se convierte en un halo de luz en su vida.
Bruno (Asa Butterfield): innocent, like any child his age, he was curious as usual, he wanted to play, but he experiences the shock of a drastic change of life and that is why Shmuel becomes a halo of light in his life.
Shmuel (Jack Scanlon): el niño prisionero, su papel es impecable, representa muy bien a un niño que está triste por no vivir una vida normal, ir a la escuela y jugar. Sumando a su lúgubre vida no poder estar con sus padres.
Shmuel (Jack Scanlon): the imprisoned boy, his role is impeccable, he represents very well a boy who is sad for not living a normal life, going to school and playing. Adding to his gloomy life not being able to be with his parents.
Elsa (Vera Farmiga): como siempre, una actuación impecable, en esta ocasión representa el papel de una madre que protege a sus hijos y demostró ser una buena persona al descubrir cuál era la verdadera misión que debía cumplir su marido. Se puede notar su actitud repulsiva ante tanta oscuridad oculta.
Elsa (Vera Farmiga): as always, an impeccable performance, this time she plays the role of a mother who protects her children and proved to be a good person by discovering what the true mission that her husband had to fulfill was. You can see his repulsive attitude in the face of so much hidden darkness.
Ralf (David Thewlis): fiel y obediente a las órdenes de su jefe, nunca vi tanta crueldad en un ser. Viendo esto me pregunto: ¿Qué puede este hombre enseñarle a sus hijos?. Gracias a Dios los chicos tienen a una madre como Elsa. No obstante, este hombre logró una magna influencia en su hija Gretel.
Ralf (David Thewlis): faithful and obedient to the orders of his boss, I have never seen such cruelty in a being. Seeing this, I wonder: What can this man teach his children? Thank God the boys have a mother like Elsa. However, this man achieved a great influence on his daughter Gretel.

My opinion
Todo parecía que se trataba de un simple cambio de vida a un lugar lúgubre y menos acaudalado del que estaban acostumbrados a vivir. No obstante, ni Bruno ni su familia se imaginaban la pesadilla que rodeaba al nuevo hogar donde los llevó su padre y mucho menos lo que les tenía preparado el destino.
Everything seemed like it was a simple change of life to a gloomy and less wealthy place than they were used to living. However, neither Bruno nor his family imagined the nightmare that surrounded the new home where their father took them, much less what destiny had prepared for them.
El niño con el piyama de rayas me mostró una realidad escalofriante, el maltrato y la crueldad en su máxima expresión en contra de los judíos. Mujeres, hombres y niños, vivieron el horror que desencadenó el holocausto Nazi a manos de su líder de entonces, Adolf Hitler.
The boy in the striped pajamas showed me a chilling reality, mistreatment and cruelty at its best against the Jews. Women, men and children lived through the horror that the Nazi holocaust unleashed at the hands of its then leader, Adolf Hitler.
Mientras el niño cuenta desde su perspectiva como se siente y se adapta a su nuevo hogar, la película en un principio me pareció algo aburrida. En la medida de sus avances, se va entendiendo de que se trata y toda la realidad que significó el holocausto en aquella época. Eso sí, nunca me imaginé ese final que tuvo, fue de verdad impresionante e inesperado. En mi opinión le doy un 8/10.
While the boy tells from his perspective how he feels and adapts to his new home, the film seemed somewhat boring at first. To the extent of its progress, it is understood what it is about and all the reality that the holocaust meant at that time. Of course, I never imagined that ending it had, it was really impressive and unexpected. In my opinion I give it an 8/10.

El tema del exterminio Nazi despertó mi curiosidad desde que vi una serie española llamada el internado, no obstante, el tema fue asomado sutilmente en esta película. A raíz de eso, comencé a investigar porque me costaba creer tanta atrocidad junta, así me enteré de muchas cosas, entre ellas, del Ángel de la muerte, Josef Mengele. La película es cruel, dura, muy dura, me pareció muy buena, sobre todo por el mensaje que transmitió de manera tácita al final y allí quiero citar una frase que leí hace tiempo:
The theme of the Nazi extermination aroused my curiosity since I saw a Spanish series called the boarding school, however, the theme was subtly shown in this film. As a result of that, I began to investigate because it was hard for me to believe so much atrocity together, so I learned many things, among them, the Angel of Death, Josef Mengele. The film is cruel, hard, very hard, it seemed very good to me, especially because of the message that it tacitly transmitted at the end and there I want to quote a phrase that I read a long time ago:
“Nadie puede hacer daño en un espacio y ser bueno en otro”.
“No one can do harm in one space and be good in another.”.
Ralf se concentró tanto en su objetivo que descuidó lo que realmente era importante, su familia.
