Hace mucho tiempo que no veía una comedia romántica y varios son los motivos, pero creo que el más fácil puedo expresar es que ya no se sienten de la misma forma en la que se sentían antes, algo en el proceso de la realización de este estilo se perdió y no he logrado verlo nuevamente en los últimos años (tal vez 15 años o más, no lo sé).

It's been a long time since I've seen a romantic comedy and there are several reasons, but I think the easiest one I can express is that they no longer feel the same way they felt before, something in the process of making this style it was lost and I haven't managed to see it again in the last few years (maybe 15 years or more, I don't know).

A pesar de eso, decidí ver esta película porque me apareció en el catálogo de opciones y realmente quería ver algo esa noche y me dije a mi mismo, ¿por qué no?, y así fue como terminé viendo "Wedding Season" de Netflix, que se estrenó el pasado mes de Agosto y tal como lo dice su título, se desarrolla en base a la temporada de bodas en una comunidad hindú.

Despite that, I decided to see this movie because it came up in my catalog of options and I really wanted to see something that night and I said to myself, why not?, and that's how I ended up watching "Wedding Season" of Netflix, which premiered last August and as its title says, is developed based on the wedding season in an Indian community.

Comienzan con la historia de la protagonista "Asha", una mujer joven con ambiciones profesionales bien definidas, dándole a su carrera como economista con especialidad en el microfinanciamiento, deja de lado un poco la idea de una vida tradicional para una mujer indú, luego de terminar un compromiso con su ex pareja.

They begin with the story of the protagonist "Asha", a young woman with well-defined professional ambitions, giving her career as an economist with a specialty in micro-financing, she leaves aside the idea of a traditional life for an Indian woman, after ending an engagement with her former partner.

Pero su madre, por sus tradiciones culturales, constantemente la intenta hacer desistir de enfocarse tanto en su trabajo y la alienta a conseguir una pareja estable, de buen estatus social, un profesional con aspiraciones altas para su futuro que pueda ser la pareja que ella necesita para comenzar una familia, tal como está por hacerlo su hermana, quien durante el film, está próxima a casarse en la temporada de bodas, con un personaje bastante peculiar.

But her mother, due to her cultural traditions, constantly tries to make her desist from focusing so much on her work and encourages her to find a stable partner, of good social status, a professional with high aspirations for her future who can be the partner she needs. to start a family, just as her sister is about to do, who during the film is about to get married in the wedding season, with a rather peculiar character.

Por otro lado está "Ravi", un joven talentoso pero con algunos secretos bien guardados, es presentado a la vida de "Asha" gracias a que su madre, crea un perfil falso en una red social de citas para que su hija finalmente conozca a su futuro esposo. Aunque esa primera cita entre ambos no es lo que esperaban, ambos llegan a un acuerdo interesante, deciden fingir una relación amorosa con el fin de acabar con la presión que ambos sienten por sus padres por conseguir una pareja estable y de asistir a todas las bodas a los que ambos y sus familias fueron invitados a cambio de que cada uno pueda cumplir con algunos proyectos que necesitan de toda su atención sin ningún distracción.

On the other hand is "Ravi", a talented young man but with some well-kept secrets, he is introduced to the life of "Asha" thanks to his mother creating a fake profile on a dating social network for her daughter to finally meet her future husband. Although that first date between the two is not what they expected, they both reach an interesting agreement, they decide to fake a love relationship in order to end the pressure that both feel from their parents to find a stable partner and to attend all the weddings to which both and their families were invited in exchange for each one being able to accomplish some projects that need your full attention without any distractions.

Hay varios momentos en donde su plan parece no tener bases sólidas y comienzan a cometer errores que ponen en riesgo su trato y la relación que ambos comienzan a desarrollar gracias a las apariencias que deben mostrar en público. Como toda rom com, llega el momento en el que todo explota y comienzan a desvelarse algunos secretos que terminan por quebrar la relación entre "Ravi" y "Asha", pero el romance que empezaron sin darse cuenta será el que los vuelva a unir.

There are several moments when their plan does not seem to have solid foundations and they begin to make mistakes that put their relationship at risk and the relationship that both begin to develop thanks to the appearances they must show in public. Like all rom com, there comes a time when everything explodes and some secrets begin to be revealed that end up breaking the relationship between "Ravi" and "Asha", but the romance that they started without realizing it will be the one to bring them back together.

Es la formula en la que se han pasado para realizar muchas de las rom coms de los años buenos de ese tipo de películas. No cambian muchas de las acciones en torno a la atmósfera de ese género del cine, pero si tiene sus puntos de cambio bien interesantes, donde podemos ver más que nada cambios en la narrativa de la cultura hindú y eso me pareció interesante de ver.

It is the formula in which they have gone through to make many of the rom coms of the good years of this type of film. Many of the actions around the atmosphere of that genre of cinema do not change, but it does have its very interesting points of change, where we can see more than anything changes in the narrative of Hindu culture and that seemed interesting to me to see.

Ver como la protagonista realmente quiere hacer entender que puede enfocarse en su carrera profesional y que este puede ser beneficioso para es un punto a favor; tal vez por momentos sus emociones la hicieron herir a sus seres queridos, pero detrás de eso hay frustración no solo con su cultura sino con su madre, por intentar implementar tradiciones que no van acorde al tiempo actual en el que se desarrolla la película ni a sus creencias; es una dinámica interesante sin duda.

Seeing how the protagonist really wants to make it understood that she can focus on her professional career and that this can be beneficial for her is a point in favor; perhaps at times her emotions made her hurt her loved ones, but behind that there is frustration not only with her culture but with her mother, for trying to implement traditions that are not in keeping with the current time in which the film takes place or with their believes; It's an interesting dynamic for sure.

Lo mismo ocurre con el personaje de "Ravi", sus padres quieren lo mejor para él, lo llevaron a la mejor universidad, crearon una historia para la vida de su hijo, así lo presentan ante la sociedad pero él vive otra vida, otra verdad, otra historia. Culturalmente hablando, es necesario que para ser un hombre capaz de merecer y sustentar una familia, necesitas salir de una universidad de prestigio y tener un empleo con buenas ganancias, así podrás mantener las necesidades de tu familia, aunque sabemos que eso no es todo.

The same happens with the character of "Ravi", his parents want the best for him, they took him to the best university, they created a story for their son's life, that's how they present him to society but he live another life, another truth, another story. Culturally speaking, it is necessary that to be a man capable of deserving and supporting a family, you need to leave a prestigious university and have a job with good earnings, so you can support the needs of your family, although we know that is not all.

Hay un punto en especial que no quiere revelar sobre la historia de "Ravi" y me parece también interesante que lo abordaran, aunque no seamos parte de la cultura en la que ellos fueron educados, podemos ver que hay problemas adentro que no pueden ser resueltos con mentiras y engaños, todo para quedar bien delante de la comunidad que comparte mi misma cultura; verlo desde ese punto tal vez me hizo disfrutar más de la película.

There is a point in particular that he does not want to reveal about the history of "Ravi" and I find it also interesting that they addressed it, although we are not part of the culture in which they were raised, we can see that there are problems inside that cannot be resolved with lies and deceit, all to look good in front of the community that shares my same culture; seeing it from that point maybe made me enjoy the movie more.

La comedia no es abundante, algo sutil por momentos pero creo que es suficiente; quien más me trajo ese factor de comedia fue el novio de la hermana de la protagonista, una adición graciosa aunque por ratos fastidiosa. La película en general contiene un tiempo promedio, 1 hora y casi 40 minutos es un tiempo prudente para expresar el punto y tal vez añadir un número musical al final de la película, solo para darle ese toque Bollywoodense tan distintivo.

The comedy is not abundant, something subtle at times but I think it's enough; The one who brought me that comedy factor the most was the boyfriend of the protagonist's sister, a funny addition although at times annoying. The film in general contains an average time, 1 hour and almost 40 minutes is a prudent time to make the point and maybe add a musical number at the end of the film, just to give it that distinctive Bollywood touch.

¿Recomendaría la película? Si solo quieres pasar el rato si la recomiendo, pero si buscas algo más interesante que ver, probablemente deslizando las opciones en Netflix podrás conseguir algo mejor que ver; aunque no me arrepiento de haber visto, pero no la volvería a ver, eso es seguro.

Would you recommend the movie? If you just want to hang out I do recommend it, but if you're looking for something more interesting to watch, probably scrolling through the options on Netflix will get you something better to watch; although I don't regret having seen it, but I wouldn't see it again, that's for sure.
