My fellow movie buffs, today is a Sunday for relaxing—and, of course, a great day to watch a movie. I watched the one I’m sharing here yesterday, and honestly, it didn’t live up to my expectations.

🎥 The Runner 🎥

Maia (Gal Gadot) is a successful lawyer in London, but her life changes overnight when she receives a call while out running—informing her that her son has been kidnapped. To get him back, she must keep running while following the orders of the man holding her little boy. Every second counts here, and we witness the lengths a mother will go to for her child.

That is the film's synopsis; as you can see, the plot is familiar—I recall seeing a similar movie, though with a male lead. Now we see it with a woman racing across the city toward a single goal, all while listening to the psychopath who abducted her son on the phone. As the saying goes, a mother will do anything to save her child—even kill, if necessary. That kind of pressure and adrenaline while running can drive you to do crazy things, or even bring out the worst in you. I’m not necessarily justifying it, but if your child's life depends on you keeping on the run—without worrying about who gets in your way—it is undoubtedly worth the effort.

But let's talk about the movie itself. As I mentioned, the plot is repetitive and nothing extraordinary. It’s set in a bustling London, yet the atmosphere feels strangely detached; people see a bloodied woman running but don't even wonder what happened to her. On that note, the woman running around like that didn't really make sense. There wasn't much action or emotion, and very few scenes were memorable—or stood out, really; everything felt very forced to me.

What did catch my attention, though, was the use of technology—specifically how they show the extent to which it can control our lives and how everything can be seen, even when you think you're out of sight. Another thing: sometimes we take the risk of answering calls from unknown numbers, feeling apprehensive because we don't know what to expect—which is exactly why I don't like answering calls from unknown numbers, haha.

Honestly, this movie didn't make any real impression on me. I certainly wouldn't watch it again; it’s just a "watch once and forget it" kind of film.
