¡Bienvenidos de vuelta a mi blog, chicos! El día de hoy les traigo una reseña de una serie de Netflix que ya he mencionado anteriormente en mi perfil, pero esta vez con un poco más de detalles motivado a que la misma estrenó los últimos 10 capítulos el 31 de Diciembre del año 2020, por lo que empecé este año terminando esta travesía la cuál fue bastante hermosa, pues es la serie más larga que he visto en mi vida y en un período corto de tiempo.
Así que, vamos a hablar de Vikings, pero desde mi propia perspectiva, es decir, con mis impresiones al respecto de toda la serie.
PD: Si no has visto la serie, lo mejor es que no leas este artículo porque contendrá un montón de spoilers que te arruinarán buenas escenas de la misma.
Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you a review of a Netflix series that I have already mentioned in my profile, but this time with a little more detail because it premiered the last 10 chapters on December 31st, 2020, so I started this year finishing this journey which was quite beautiful, because it is the longest series I have seen in my life and in a short period of time.
So, let's talk about Vikings, but from my own perspective, I mean, with my impressions of the whole series.
PS: If you haven't seen the series, it's best not to read this article because it will contain a lot of spoilers that will ruin good scenes of it.
Una trama impactante desde el primer momento | A shocking plot from the very first moment
Al principio te topas con una trama que parece sencilla; nos presentan a un vikingo conocido como Ragnar Lothbrok, el cual es un granjero que se dedica a mantener una granja en una parte de su vida, pero que también se dedica a realizar expediciones para saquear tierras en nombre del conde de la ciudad principal donde reside conocida como Kattegat.
Dicho conde se llama Conde (Earl) Haraldson, él es el gobernante de la ciudad y máxima autoridad de la misma, se encarga de mantener la ley y el orden dentro del territorio de Kattegat y además de eso, es el que otorgaba los permisos para las expediciones a los vikingos que decidieran salir a saquear.
At the beginning you come across a plot that seems simple; we are introduced to a Viking known as Ragnar Lothbrok, a farmer who's dedicated to maintaining a farm in one part of his life, but who's also dedicated to carrying out expeditions to plunder lands in the name of the count of the main city where he resides known as Kattegat.
This count is called Count (Earl) Haraldson, he's the ruler of the city and maximum authority of the same, is responsible for maintaining law and order within the territory of Kattegat and in addition to that, is the one who granted permits for the expeditions to the Vikings who decided to go out to loot.
A pesar de su entusiasmo como granjero, Ragnar Lothbrok es una persona muy ambiciosa, además de que posee una fascinación increíble por viajar, esto lo lleva a desarrollar una especie de delirio sobre el hecho de investigar qué hay más allá de las tierras que ya conocen todos, es decir, el navegar hacia el Oeste del mundo, porque ya todo el Este era completamente familiar para ellos.
El primer conflicto empieza cuando el Conde Haraldson empieza a temer que Ragnar empieza a desafiarlo porque aún sin su consentimiento él decide partir hacia el Oeste, obteniendo como resultado un montón de tesoros por su llegada hacia Inglaterra.
Haraldson intenta de muchas maneras quebrar la confianza de Ragnar, busca poner a sus amigos en su contra, atenta contra su familia y nada funciona; entonces, Ragnar decide desafiar a un combate al Conde, este acepta por el honor y termina siendo asesinado por él, entonces, Ragnar pasa a ser el Conde de Kattegat.
In spite of his enthusiasm as a farmer, Ragnar Lothbrok is a very ambitious person, besides that he possesses an incredible fascination for travelling, this leads him to develop a kind of delirium about investigating what is beyond the lands that everyone already knows, that is, sailing towards the West of the world, because already the whole East was completely familiar to them.
The first conflict begins when Count Haraldson begins to fear that Ragnar will start challenging him because even without his consent he decides to leave for the West, obtaining as a result a lot of treasures for his arrival in England.
Haraldson tries in many ways to break Ragnar's trust, he tries to turn his friends against him, he attacks his family and nothing works; then, Ragnar decides to challenge the Count to a combat, he accepts for the honor and ends up being killed by him, then, Ragnar becomes the Count of Kattegat.
La evolución de Ragnar | The Ragnar's evolution
En las primeras temporadas pareciera que la serie siempre va a girar en torno a Ragnar (directamente), pero a medida que va avanzando van apareciendo más personajes que se vuelven completamente icónicos al respecto porque son personas que de una u otra forma llevaron a la serie a consolidar el camino que siguió hasta su final.
Pero tras la muerte de este es donde comienza lo bueno porque las guerras se intensifican, el conflicto político comienza a hacer que los personajes revelen su verdadera naturaleza, ocurren demasiadas traiciones, giros argumentales y muchas muertes que te mantienen alerta y completamente pegado a la historia de la serie.
In the first seasons it seems that the series will always revolve around Ragnar (directly), but as it progresses more characters appear who become completely iconic in this respect because they are people who in one way or another led the series to consolidate the path it followed until its end.
But after the death of this one is where the good begins because the wars intensify, the political conflict begins to make the characters reveal their true nature, too many betrayals, plot twists and many deaths occur that keep you alert and completely stuck to the story of the series.
Sin embargo, antes de que ocurra este suceso, te muestran como la cordura de Ragnar se ve comprometida, al igual que su fe en los dioses nórdicos a raíz de un montón de situaciones adversas que lo hacen sentir que realmente él nunca quiso esa cantidad de poder, nunca quiso abandonar su granja, lo único que quería era tener algo de riqueza y vivir feliz.
Por supuesto, uno va viendo el desarrollo de cómo se desenvuelve un vikingo jóven, eufórico, enérgico y frenético con el tema de asesinar personas en batallas, pero luego vemos cómo avanza la serie y notamos un cambio un tanto drástico, ahora Ragnar es más maquiavélico, más estratega y menos conflictivo, busca la manera más ingeniosa de superar a sus adversarios y eso crea la fama legendaria de este vikingo, cosa que no pierde vigencia en toda la serie.
However, before this event happens, they show you how Ragnar's sanity is compromised, as well as his faith in the Nordic gods in the wake of a lot of adverse situations that make him feel that he really never wanted that amount of power, he never wanted to leave his farm, all he wanted was to have some wealth and live happily.
Of course, one sees the development of how he being so young, euphoric, energetic and frenetic Viking with the theme of killing people in battles, but then we see how the series progresses and we notice a somewhat drastic change, now Ragnar is more Machiavellian, more strategical and less conflictive, he looks for the most ingenious way to overcome his adversaries and that creates the legendary fame of this Viking, which does not lose validity in the whole series.
La etapa «post Ragnar» | The "post Ragnar" season
La locura verdaderamente se desata tras la muerte de Ragnar Lothbrok, pues uno de sus hijos, conocido como Ivar «El Deshuesado» es el encargado de buscar la venganza que Ragnar le pidió pocos días antes de morir; en lo personal yo imaginé que ese fue el último plan de Ragnar porque me pareció muy extraño que decidiera entregarse de la manera en la que lo hizo a los ingleses y dejar que lo asesinaran así sin más.
Por supuesto, toda persona que ha visto o vio la serie jamás podría olvidar la frase icónica del famoso rey vikingo antes de soltar sus últimos suspiros: «Cómo gruñirán los cerditos cuando escuchen que el viejo jabalí sufrió...», pues dicha frase vaticinaba todo lo que vino poco después al territorio sajón de parte de los hijos de Ragnar.
Estas batallas «post Ragnar» son una genialidad total, el hecho de poder ver cómo cada personaje evoluciona como estratega, como el poder pasa de un lado a otro y te vas dando cuenta que gracias a las creencias en los dioses nórdicos los vikingos tienen muchas ventajas en muchos sentidos, pero también una desventaja crucial en una particularmente: la lealtad.
Me encanta como muestras las casualidades y causalidades de la vida según la perspectiva de los vikingos, el cómo asociaban todo a cada una de las leyendas, el cómo se materializan algunos hechos divinos impresionantes y el cómo todo termina, con el fin para la fe nórdica de los noruegos en manos del cristianismo.
The madness really starts after Ragnar Lothbrok's death, because one of his sons, known as Ivar "The Boneless" is in charge of seeking the revenge that Ragnar asked him for a few days before he died; personally I imagined that this was Ragnar's last plan because it seemed very strange to me that he decided to give himself up in the way he did to the English and let them kill him just like that.
Of course, every person who has seen or has seen the series could never forget the iconic phrase of the famous Viking king before he let out his last sighs: "How the little pigs will growl when they hear that the old boar suffered...", because that phrase predicted everything that came soon after to Saxon territory from Ragnar's sons.
These "post-Ragnar" battles are a total genius, the fact of being able to see how each character evolves as a strategist, how power passes from one side to the other and you realize that thanks to the beliefs in the Nordic gods the Vikings have many advantages in many ways, but also a crucial disadvantage in one in particular: loyalty.
I love how you show the coincidences and causalities of life from the perspective of the Vikings, how they associated everything with each of the legends, how some impressive divine events are materialized and how everything ends, with the end for the Nordic faith of the Norwegians in the hands of Christianity.
Mi personaje favorito: Floki, El Constructor de Barcos | My favorite character: Floki, The Ship Builder
Desde antes que terminara la serie, ya yo había declarado que Floki era mi personaje favorito por diversas razones; inclusive realicé una vez una participación a una dinámica creada por el equipo de la comunidad de MakeUp Power donde teníamos que maquillarnos como vikingos y logré hacer mi maquillaje inspirado en este increíble personaje:
Since before the end of the series, I had already declared that Floki was my favorite character for several reasons; I even participated once in a dynamic created by the MakeUp Power community team where we had to make up as Vikings and I managed to do my make-up inspired by this incredible character:
Cualquiera que ha visto la serie, puede tener muchas razones por la cual amar a este personaje (porque tiene demasiadas), pero yo puedo decir que destaco algunas de ellas, estas son las siguientes:
- Su mística como artista: Cuanto te presentan a Floki por primera vez en la serie, Ragnar le dice a su hijo Bjorn que Floki es un artista para crear barcos legendarios y él se muestra por primera vez como un personaje muy bohemio, un vikingo que vive en el bosque, con un maquillaje muy particular que siempre tiene puesto en los ojos y posee una mística increíble, además de una sensibilidad magnífica para con los dioses nórdicos.
- Su manera de batallar: Mientras que todos los vikingos buscan sus escudos, Floki es la definición de un Pícaro, siempre anda con armas en ambas manos y su manera de batallar es muy particular, es increíblemente sanguinario y confía en el destino que los dioses le deparan por lo que no le tiene miedo a la muerte en absoluto, esto lo lleva a hacer cosas increíbles desde el principio de la serie hasta el final.
- Su redención como sabio: Durante toda la serie, vamos conociendo a un Floki demasiado fanático de los dioses nórdicos, al punto inclusive de repugnar a todos los cristianos y todas las acciones que tengan que ver con el cristianismo (inclusive llevando a realizar acciones que lo metieran en problemas con el mismo Ragnar Lothbrok), pero luego vemos como se redime y se vuelve una persona increíblemente sabia, la cual ya no actúa de manera impulsiva sino que ahora actúa a través de la razón, busca la paz y la armonía entre las personas para lograr el bien común.
Anyone who has seen the series, can have many reasons to love this character (because he has too many), but I can say that I highlight some of them, these are the following:
- His mysticism as an artist: When you are introduced to Floki for the first time in the series, Ragnar tells his son Bjorn that Floki is an artist to create legendary ships and he shows himself for the first time as a very bohemian character, a Viking who lives in the forest, with a very particular make-up that he always has on his eyes and possesses an incredible mysticism, as well as a magnificent sensibility towards the Nordic gods.
- His way of fighting: While all Vikings look for their shields, Floki is the definition of a Rogue, he always walks with weapons in both hands and his way of fighting is very particular, he is incredibly bloodthirsty and trusts the fate that the gods have in store for him so he is not afraid of death at all, this leads him to do incredible things from the beginning of the series to the end.
- Your redemption as a wise man: Throughout the series, we get to know a Floki who is too fanatical about the Nordic gods, to the point of even repelling all Christians and all actions that have to do with Christianity (even leading to actions that would get him into trouble with Ragnar Lothbrok himself), but then we see how he redeems himself and becomes an incredibly wise person, who no longer acts impulsively but now acts through reason, seeks peace and harmony among people to achieve the common good.
Un final excelente | An excellent final
El hype comenzó cuando fue lanzado el tráiler oficial de la sexta temporada (segunda parte), todo el mundo empezaba a especular el desenlace de muchos personajes y conflictos que se fueron desenvolviendo desde los primeros 10 capítulos de la sexta temporada.

The hype started when the official trailer of the sixth season (part two) was released, everyone began to speculate on the outcome of many characters and conflicts that were unfolding from the first 10 chapters of the sixth season.

Tuve demasiadas expectativas con este final y eso hizo que sí me decepcionaran algunas cosas pero siento que todo se cubrió de una manera magnífica, así que no puedo condenar severamente el final de esta increíble serie que me dio momentos increíbles.
El cierre de personajes gigantezcos como Bjorn Ironside, como Ivar The Boneless, Gunhild y hasta el mismísimo Rey Harald (personaje que odié pero que luego pude respetar por su evolución como personaje y mostrar su lado más humano en esta última temporada) fue demasiado bueno, todos tuvieron muertes dignas de grandes vikingos, tal vez podría haber pedido una mejor muerte para Ivar pero todo lo demás se abarcó increíblemente bien.
Me confundió un poco el hecho de que Ingrid terminara siendo reina de Kattegat y eso quedara así en el aire pero posiblemente sea una conexión con la secuela que harán con la serie Vikings: Valhalla la cual transcurre 100 años después de estos sucesos.
Y definitivamente lo que más voy a amar de toda la serie y que me hizo llorar con locura, solo puedo resumirlo con una imagen:
I had too many expectations with this ending and that did disappoint me some things but I feel that everything was covered in a magnificent way, so I can't condemn severely the end of this incredible series that gave me incredible moments.
The closing of giant characters like Bjorn Ironside, like Ivar The Boneless, Gunhild and even King Harald (a character that I hated but later I was able to respect for his evolution as a character and show his more human side in this last season) was too good, they all had deaths worthy of great Vikings, maybe I could have asked for a better death for Ivar but everything else was covered incredibly well.
I was a little confused by the fact that Ingrid ended up being the queen of Kattegat and that was left in the air but possibly it is a connection with the sequel they will do with the series Vikings: Valhalla which is 100 years after these events.
And definitely what I'm going to love the most in the whole series and that made me cry madly, I can only summarize it with an image:
Este era el mayor misterio y mayor causa de incertidumbre de toda la serie y definitivamente el que pudieran cerrar ese ciclo fue lo mejor de estos últimos 10 capítulos, con ese cierre, se llevaron el oro totalmente.
This was the biggest mystery and biggest cause of uncertainty of the whole series and definitely the fact that they could close that cycle was the best thing about these last 10 chapters, with that closing, they took the gold totally.
Palabras Finales | Final Words
Todo el que ha visto series que han tenido larga duración, saben que cuando esta llega a su fin es como si una parte de nuestro ser desapareciera, es como una sensación extraña de luto que entra en nuestro ser y es difícil despedirse de las series y/o películas que nos dieron mucha felicidad, que nos hicieron gritar, reír, llorar, enojarnos, etc.
Debo decir que con todo y sus pequeños defectos (porque siempre tiene que haberlos), Vikings para mí tiene un lugar especial en mi vida y la he decretado la mejor serie que he visto en mi vida hasta los momentos (y eso que he visto muchas series increíbles), veremos si llegará otra que pueda tumbarle ese podio.
A esta excelente creación y magnífica manera de mostrar la historia vikinga le doy un:
Everyone who has seen series that have had a long duration knows that when this one comes to an end it is as if a part of our being disappears, it is like a strange feeling of mourning that enters our being and it is difficult to say goodbye to the series and/or movies that gave us much happiness, that made us scream, laugh, cry, get angry, etc.
I must say that with everything and its little defects (because there always has to be), Vikings for me has a special place in my life and I have decreed it the best series I have seen in my life so far (and I've seen many incredible series), we'll see if another one will come along that can knock down that podium.
