¡Bienvenidos de nuevo a mi blog, chicos! El día de hoy les traigo una reseña de una película que verdaderamente tienen que ver en Netflix, si mal no recuerdan, hace unos días hablé sobre una llamada «El Diablo a Todas Horas» que también vi en la misma plataforma de streaming en los últimos días del año 2021, si no la han leído, pueden ir a la reseña al hacer click aquí.
Hoy les quiero hablar sobre una película que me demostró —de forma reiterada— que Benedict Cumberbatch es un actor de niveles muy altos, de esos que cuando ves actuar te ofrece una inmersión impresionante en su papel, al punto de que, por ejemplo, en esta película lo detestas muchísimo por los detalles que contaré a continuación; hoy le toca el turno a la película «The Power Of The Dog».
Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you a review of a movie that you truly have to watch on Netflix, if you remember correctly, a few days ago I talked about a movie called "The Devil at All Hours" that I also watched on the same streaming platform in the last days of the year 2021, if you haven't read it, you can go to the review by clicking here.
Today I want to talk about a movie that showed me -repeatedly- that Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor of very high levels, one of those that when you see him acting offers you an impressive immersion in his role, to the point that, for example, in this movie you hate him a lot for the details that I will tell you below; today it is the turn of the movie "The Power Of The Dog".

La Trama | The Plot
La trama comienza bastante lenta, pero te va adentrando un poco en el conflicto, primero te muestran a un grupo de ganaderos profesionales que van arreando su ganado a caballo llevándolo de una finca a otra; tenemos un primer vistazo de Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) el cuál es un vaquero muy odioso, hediondo, de esos que aman estar llenos de tierra, cabalgar, literalmente el macho viril más primitivo posible (a pesar de que, según la trama, él es una persona muy letrada).
El grupo llega a un bar donde Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst) trabaja junto a su hijo Peter Gordon (Kodi Smit-McPhee) sirviéndole comida a las personas que llegan de travesías; Peter tiene fascinaciones que no son comúnes en el mundo de los vaqueros y ganaderos, como por ejemplo, el arte, esto hace que Phil comience a causar problemas al hacerle bullying al hijo de la señora Gordon por el hecho de pensar de que es muy afeminado, esto afecta de una manera extremadamente negativa a Peter, cosa que lo obliga a abandonar su hogar y su trabajo por un tiempo.
Empezamos a conocer al hermano de Phil, George Burbank (Jesse Plemons), el cuál es completamente el contraste de él, porque George es bastante dócil y educado; luego del conflicto en el local, George se siente muy apenado por el comportamiento de su hermano, así que va a hablar con la señora Gordon para disculparse por eso, ofreciéndole además, ayuda como camarero ante la ausencia de tu hijo por el bullying de su hermano.
Al pasar mucho tiempo con ella, George se enamora y termina casándose con la señora Gordon, cosa que a Phil no le agrada en absoluto y demuestra su descontento en cada oportunidad que tiene, ahí comienza la raíz de todos los problemas, pues las cosas se van saliendo de control poco a poco.
The plot starts off rather slow, but you get a little bit into the conflict, first you are shown a group of professional ranchers herding their cattle on horseback from one farm to another; we get a first glimpse of Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) who is a very obnoxious, smelly, dirt-loving, horse-riding, literally the most primitive virile male possible (even though, according to the plot, he is a very literate person).
The group arrives at a bar where Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst) works alongside her son Peter Gordon (Kodi Smit-McPhee) serving food to people arriving from cross country; Peter has fascinations that are not common in the world of cowboys and ranchers, such as art, this makes Phil starts to cause problems by bullying the son of Mrs. Gordon by the fact that he thinks he is very effeminate, this affects Peter in an extremely negative way, which forces him to leave his home and his job for a while.
We begin to meet Phil's brother, George Burbank (Jesse Plemons), which is completely the contrast of him, because George is quite docile and polite; after the conflict in the local, George feels very sorry for the behavior of his brother, so he goes to talk to Mrs. Gordon to apologize for that, also offering him help as a waiter in the absence of your child by the bullying of his brother.
Spending a lot of time with her, George falls in love and ends up marrying Mrs. Gordon, something that Phil does not like at all and shows his discontent at every opportunity he has, there begins the root of all the problems, as things are getting out of control little by little.
Las Actuaciones | The Performances
En esta parte debo decir que todos se lucieron increíblemente en sus papeles, pero de mis papeles favoritos, debo decir que Beneditch Cumberbatch hizo un papel estelar tan impresionante que de verdad me hizo olvidarme que él es mi personaje favorito de Marvel (Dr. Strange) y terminé odiándolo demasiado por su papel de Phil Burbank, se le dió tan natural que cualquiera pensaría que él es así, que esa actuación forma parte de su personalidad.
In this part I must say that everyone looked amazing in their roles, but of my favorite roles, I must say that Beneditch Cumberbatch did such an awesome starring role that it really made me forget that he is my favorite Marvel character (Dr. Strange) and I ended up hating him too much for his role as Phil Burbank, it came so naturally to him that anyone would think that he is like that, that this performance is part of his personality.
Otro de los papeles que me gustó fue el de Kirsten Dunst como Rose Gordon, porque su actuación con el tema del alcoholismo hizo que uno se mantuviera impactado y pegado a lo que sucedería en la próxima escena, era bastante impredecible, eso me gusta mucho en las películas, porque cuando ya empiezo a predecir las acciones de los personajes, significa que la trama es demasiado lineal y que realmente terminará siendo aburrida.
Another role I liked was Kirsten Dunst's role as Rose Gordon, because her performance with the alcoholism theme made you stay shocked and glued to what would happen in the next scene, it was quite unpredictable, I really like that in movies, because when I already start predicting the actions of the characters, it means that the plot is too linear and it will really end up being boring.
Y ni hablar del papelazo que se lanzó Kodi Smit-McPhee como Peter Gordon, pues realmente él fue el que terminó haciendo un trabajo de intriga y mucha psicología que terminamos entendiendo al final de la película donde viene se plot twist hermoso que te erizó la piel y te hizo ver que realmente tienes que prestarle atención a este tipo de películas, donde el drama y la psicología van de la mano.
And not to mention the great role that Kodi Smit-McPhee played as Peter Gordon, because he really was the one who ended up doing a job of intrigue and a lot of psychology that we ended up understanding at the end of the film where it comes a beautiful plot twist that made your skin crawl and made you see that you really have to pay attention to this kind of movies, where drama and psychology go hand in hand.
El Final | The End
El final fue INCREÍBLE, en definitiva no puedo definirlo de otra manera porque yo amo que jueguen con mi psicología y me pongan a pensar, ya yo sabía el porqué del final porque siempre he sido demasiado detallista, pero de igual forma tuve que hacer una retrospectiva, pausar un momento la película y ponerme a pensar en lo que sucedió con detalle para poder disfrutar de ese plot twist a cabalidad.
Me parece bastante interesante también un hecho particular y es el haber sido testigo y espectador de una película de vaqueros en la que no hubo ningún tipo de arma de fuego implicada, nunca se vió en escena las típicas revolver que tienen los vaqueros en las fundas a los lados de sus piernas, ni accionándolas, ni colocándolas en las mesas y si detallas a las personas, ninguno de ellos tiene armas, es bastante interesante y yo estuve durante toda la película diciendo que ese detalle fue muy particular y sería interesante saber si el director hizo eso a propósito.
The ending was AMAZING, I can't define it in any other way because I love that they play with my psychology and make me think, I already knew the reason for the ending because I've always been too detail oriented, but I still had to make a retrospective, pause the movie for a moment and think about what happened in detail to enjoy that plot twist to the fullest.
I find quite interesting also a particular fact and that is to have been a witness and spectator of a cowboy movie in which there was no type of firearm involved, you never saw in scene the typical revolvers that cowboys have in the holsters on the sides of their legs, neither activating them, nor placing them on the tables and if you detail the people, none of them have guns, it is quite interesting and I was during the whole movie saying that this detail was very particular and it would be interesting to know if the director did that on purpose.
Palabras Finales | Final Words
Esta película es una gran obra maestra, para muchos segúramente será lenta, pero de eso se tratan las películas psicológicas, te van construyendo el problema, te lo van mostrando desde la raíz, luego te enfatizan cada una de sus etapas y luego te muestran el clímax, que vendría siendo el resultado de todo lo que nos mostraron anteriormente, es mera factibilidad de hechos.
Me encantó de principio a fin, únicamente siento que jugaron con mi cordura en la escena del cigarrillo entre Peter y Phil pues pensé que estábamos de cara a una versión más actual de «El Secreto de La Montaña», pero todo fue un truco para desviarnos del hilo argumental, fue brillante.

This movie is a great masterpiece, for many it will probably be slow, but that's what psychological movies are about, they build up the problem, they show it to you from the root, then they emphasize each of its stages and then they show you the climax, which would be the result of everything they showed us before, it's mere factual feasibility.
I loved it from beginning to end, I only feel that they played with my sanity in the cigarette scene between Peter and Phil because I thought we were facing a more current version of "The Secret of the Mountain", but it was all a trick to divert us from the plot, it was brilliant.
