¡Bienvenidos de nuevo a mi blog, chicos! El día de hoy les traigo una reseña que quise hacer hace unos cuantos días pero motivado al hecho de que estuve sin internet, no pude realizarlo en el momento que debí; como sabrán, soy una persona muy cinéfila, por ende, siempre me gusta conocer nuevas películas y series para adentrarme en la historia de cada una de ellas, pero en este caso particular, les voy a hablar sobre una increíble joya que vi en el cine hace una semana y media, se le conoce con el nombre de The Last Duel (El Último Duelo).
Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you a review that I wanted to do a few days ago but due to the fact that I was without internet, I couldn't do it when I should have; as you know, I'm a very cinephile person, therefore, I always like to know new movies and series to get into the history of each of them, but in this particular case, I'm going to talk about an incredible gem that I saw in the cinema a week and a half ago, it is known by the name of The Last Duel (The Last Duel).
The Last Duel es una película hecha por Ridley Scott como adaptación del libro The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France; debo admitir que a primera vista lo que más me llamó la atención sobre esta obra fue el reparto, pues ver a Matt Damon, Ben Affleck y Adam Driver en la misma lista de actores me dió una intriga asombrosa, sobretodo por el hecho de que nunca había visto a Ben Affleck en un papel medieval.
No tenía expectativas realmente pero en Twitter ya había visto muchísimas reacciones a mucha información filtrada como por ejemplo los vestuarios de los personajes durante el rodaje, cosa que ya podía darnos una pequeña idea de lo que nos íbamos a encontrar.
Siempre he sido amante de las películas y series de épocas medievales, así que ese primer hecho hizo que me interesara en verla, luego, el poder ver el look del reparto me llamó demasiado la atención, así que voy a ir resaltando poco a poco todo lo que pienso al respecto de cada detalle de la película, ¡comencemos!
The Last Duel is a film made by Ridley Scott as an adaptation of the book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France; I must admit that at first glance what caught my attention the most about this play was the cast, as seeing Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Adam Driver in the same cast list gave me an amazing intrigue, especially due to the fact that I had never seen Ben Affleck in a medieval role before.
I had no expectations really but on Twitter I had already seen lots and lots of reactions to a lot of leaked information like for example the costumes of the characters during the shooting, something that could already give us a little idea of what we were going to find.
I've always been a lover of medieval movies and series, so that first fact made me interested in watching it, then, being able to see the look of the cast caught my attention, so I'm going to highlight little by little everything I think about every detail of the film, let's start!

La Trama | The Plot
La trama es bastante simple pero la manera en la que la abarcaron me pareció completamente impresionante; el hecho de que fuera realizada en capítulos donde realmente era solo la perspectiva de cada quién sobre el conflicto, me gustó demasiado.
Todo gira en torno a una historia de traición por poder, amor y lujuria entre dos buenos amigos, los cuáles terminan sus diferencias a través de un duelo a muerte tal cual una justa de caballeros por el hecho de que no se puede llegar a un veredicto final en el juicio que se exigió a raíz de la situación tensa entre ambos.
Pensé que la manera de contar la historia sería repetitiva pues, básicamente nos estaban mostrando la misma historia una y otra vez pero con sus pequeños cambios en los detalles para hacer que la historia fuera más conveniente para el personaje en cuestión, pero realmente me equivoqué, supieron hacer todo de la mejor manera posible.
The plot is quite simple but the way in which they covered it seemed to me completely impressive; the fact that it was done in chapters where it was really only each one's perspective on the conflict, I liked it too much.
It all revolves around a story of betrayal by power, love and lust between two good friends, who end their differences through a duel to the death just like a jousting match because they can't reach a final verdict in the trial that was demanded because of the tense situation between the two.
I thought that the way of telling the story would be repetitive because, basically they were showing us the same story over and over again but with their little changes in the details to make the story more convenient for the character in question, but I was really wrong, they knew how to do everything in the best possible way.
Las Actuaciones | The Performances
Debo decir que en esta parte todo me gustó muchísimo, a excepción del papel que realizó Ben Affleck como el Conde Pierre d'Alençon, porque siento que fue como muy insípido o tal vez no tuvo tanto protagonismo por el hecho de que realmente él era un papel casi secundario dentro del conflicto principal, pero no me pareció que fuera tan impactante, ahora, hablaré sobre los papeles de los roles protagónicos dentro del conflicto:
I must say that in this part I liked everything very much, except for the role played by Ben Affleck as Count Pierre d'Alençon, because I feel it was like very insipid or maybe he did not have so much prominence due to the fact that he was really an almost secondary role within the main conflict, but I did not think it was so shocking, now, I will talk about the roles of the protagonic roles within the conflict:
1.- Adam Driver (Jacques Le Gris)
La primera vez que vi actuando a Adam Driver fue en Star Wars Episodio 7 en el papel del villano Kylo Ren y siento que desde ese momento tuve una conexión excelente con él, supe que su nivel de actuación era muy bueno indistíntamente de si su papel gustó o no en el contexto del universo de la franquicia.
Luego lo vi en A Marriage Story actuando junto a Scarlett Johansson y fue demasiado impactante, sobretodo por el hecho de que no era un papel ficticio o súper impresionante, sino sólamente una persona con un matrimonio fallido que buscaba afrontar los conflictos que conllevan las relaciones de pareja, pero su intensidad fue increíble, la pasión, todo, entonces ahí supe que estaba de cara a un actor excelente.
Ahora, si hablamos de su personaje acá en The Last Duel, debo decir que su interpretación fue símplemente magnífica, al punto de hacer que terminara odiando su personaje con todo mi ser.
Then I saw him in A Marriage Story acting alongside Scarlett Johansson and it was too shocking, especially for the fact that it was not a fictional or super impressive role, but just a person with a failed marriage seeking to address the conflicts involved in relationships, but his intensity was incredible, the passion, everything, then I knew I was facing an excellent actor.
Now, if we talk about his character here in The Last Duel, I must say that his interpretation was simply magnificent, to the point of making me end up hating his character with all my being.
Osado, egocéntrico y con una habilidad increíble para ligar con las mujeres, Jacques Le Gris es un personaje que al principio te puede confundir pensando que es noble y sencillo pero que esconde detrás a un ser bastante manipulador, egoísta y fácilmente corruptible a través del poder.
Me encantó demasiado como Adam Driver le dió vida a este personaje porque siento que ese papel encajó muchísimo con su propio estilo personal, ya que, él hizo entrever los detalles de la personalidad de Le Gris pero de una manera muy sutil que realmente no te cae mal al principio sino hasta que ya explota el conflicto de la película.
Su muerte fue épica, siento que esa escena es y será siempre de mis favoritas de la película porque yo sabía que le iban a dar un desenlace al personaje, ya que realmente Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) sabía combatir muchísimo mejor que él; esa parte fue muy predecible, sin embargo siento que la disfruté demasiado, completamente impactante de principio a fin.
Bold, self-centered and with an incredible ability to flirt with women, Jacques Le Gris is a character that at first may confuse you thinking he is noble and simple but hides behind a being quite manipulative, selfish and easily corruptible through power.
I loved too much how Adam Driver gave life to this character because I feel that this role fit very much with his own personal style, since, he made you glimpse the details of Le Gris's personality but in a very subtle way that you don't really dislike him at the beginning until the conflict of the movie explodes.
His death was epic, I feel that scene is and will always be one of my favorites of the film because I knew they were going to give the character a denouement, because really Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) knew how to fight much better than him; that part was very predictable, however I feel I enjoyed it too much, completely shocking from beginning to end.
2.- Matt Damon (Jean de Carrouges)
Del mismo modo que me pasó con Adam Driver, ver a Matt Damon en una película medieval fue demasiado épico, porque yo lo conocía era de películas de acción como Jason Bourne, de ciencia ficción como Elysium y hasta en películas de comedia como en Downsizing, pero jamás me habría imaginado este papel y siento que fue más que perfecto.
De todos los personajes, este fue mi favorito, porque tuvo un desarrollo totalmente espectacular que además ayudó a que personajes como Le Gris se desarrollaran también de la mejor manera; su evolución ligada al odio de todo lo que fue perdiendo a lo largo del tiempo, las frustraciones sobre cómo Le Gris eclipsaba su éxito hasta el punto en el que explotó el conflicto en el que se vió involucrada su esposa, lo hicieron volverse un personaje con el que se podía tener mucha empatía y por el cuál no apostarías en contra porque sus muestras de habilidad en combate eran impresionantes.
In the same way that happened to me with Adam Driver, seeing Matt Damon in a medieval movie was too epic, because I knew him was from action movies like Jason Bourne, sci-fi like Elysium and even in comedy movies like in Downsizing, but I never would have imagined this role and I feel it was beyond perfect.
Of all the characters, this was my favorite, because he had a totally spectacular development that also helped characters like Le Gris develop in the best way as well; his evolution linked to the hatred of everything he was losing over time, the frustrations about how Le Gris eclipsed his success to the point where he exploited the conflict involving his wife, made him become a character you could have a lot of empathy for and you wouldn't bet against because his displays of skill in combat were impressive.
Me encantó cómo interpretó la personalidad ruda, temeraria y bastante cavernícola del personaje de Jean de Carrouges, dejando en evidencias los delirios de ego y de grandeza que tenía ese personaje, cosa que lo llevó a cometer una gran cantidad de errores, comenzando por el que cometió al no esperar las ordenes de los superiores al mando en la primera batalla que nos muestran en la película.
Su desesperación por destacar y buscar la grandeza que en esa época era lo que le quitaba el sueño a los caballeros, el ser aceptados por sus condes y reyes para sentarse en los grandes festines y tener muchos títulos, tierras y gloria fue lo que me gustó más de este personaje, todo fue abarcado de una manera excepcional y por supuesto la actuación de Matt Damon fue impecable.
I loved how he interpreted the rough, reckless and quite caveman personality of the character of Jean de Carrouges, leaving in evidence the delusions of ego and grandeur that character had, which led him to make a lot of mistakes, starting with the one he made by not waiting for the orders of the superiors in command in the first battle that we are shown in the film.
His desperation to stand out and seek the greatness that at that time was what took away the sleep of the knights, to be accepted by their counts and kings to sit at the great feasts and have many titles, lands and glory was what I liked most about this character, everything was covered in an exceptional way and of course Matt Damon's performance was impeccable.
3.- Jodie Comer (Marguerite de Carrouges)
Cuando vi a esta actríz por primera vez en la película, su rostro se me hizo demasiado familiar, pero nunca supe de dónde hasta que comencé a hacer este post, ya que me tomé la tarea de investigar en dónde había aparecido y me conseguí con la grata sorpresa de que ella interpretó a la madre de Ray Palpatine en Star Wars Episodio IX; yo soy una persona que no olvida rostros, sobretodo si son en papeles de películas y/o sagas que me encantan.
En esta película ella realizó el papel de Marguerite, la clásica hija de un hombre con tierras y dinero que busca un caballero con quién desposarla para que le de un apellido reconocido y ante los encantos y las históricas victorias que tuvo Jean de Carrouges, esta decide casarse con él.
When I saw this actress for the first time in the movie, her face became too familiar, but I never knew from where until I started making this post, since I took the task of researching where she had appeared and I got the pleasant surprise that she played Ray Palpatine's mother in Star Wars Episode IX; I'm a person who doesn't forget faces, especially if they are in roles in movies and/or sagas that I love.
In this film she played the role of Marguerite, the classic daughter of a man with land and money who seeks a knight to marry her to give her a recognized name and before the charms and historical victories that Jean de Carrouges had, she decides to marry him.
Este papel me gustó mucho, porque a pesar de ser el papel de una chica que no tenía mucho poder ni prestigio, lo supo realizar de la mejor manera y el hecho de que básicamente todo el conflicto gire en torno a ella y a los sucesos con Le Gris por su ego y alta lujuria la volvió una protagonista muy épica.
Además, la actuación fue magistral en las escenas fuertes como la violación de Le Gris, el discurso durante el juicio para saber si ella realmente estaba interesada en él o si lo que decía era falso y hasta en el momento de espectar la batalla final, en todo momento su actuación fue impecable por lo impactante, las emociones se vieron a flor de piel de la mejor manera, cada rostro, cada mirada y cada diálogo de ella fue genial.
I liked this role very much, because despite being the role of a girl who did not have much power or prestige, she knew how to perform it in the best way and the fact that basically all the conflict revolves around her and the events with Le Gris because of her ego and high lust made her a very epic protagonist.
In addition, the acting was masterful in the strong scenes like the rape of Le Gris, the speech during the trial to know if she was really interested in him or if what she said was false and even at the time of the final battle, at all times her performance was impeccable for the shocking, the emotions were seen to the surface in the best way, every face, every look and every dialogue of her was great.
El Final de la Película | The Movie Finale
La batalla final de la película, la cuál también es el final de la misma como tal, es increíble, la escena de batalla fue muy buena, fue visualmente atractiva y no fue para nada incómoda; pude intuír el resultado de la misma porque Jean de Carrouges era un guerrero impresionante, mientras que Le Gris era más habilidoso con las mujeres que con la espada, pero de igual forma fue un combate demasiado espectacular.
La muerte de Le Gris fue ¡ÉPICA! Me recordó demasiado a la serie Game Of Thrones por el estilo, una daga directa a la garganta a través de la boca utilizando la rodilla, o sea, es probable que lean esto y la primera reacción sea decir un gran what the fuck?!, pero les aseguro que si la vieron, posiblemente les causó el mismo impacto y si no la han visto, pues, créanme que van a disfrutar demasiado ese asesinato.
The final battle of the movie, which is also the end of the movie as such, is incredible, the battle scene was very good, it was visually appealing and it wasn't awkward at all; I could intuit the outcome of it because Jean de Carrouges was an impressive warrior, while Le Gris was more skilled with women than with the sword, but it was still a too spectacular fight.
The death of Le Gris was epic! It reminded me too much to the series Game Of Thrones for the style, a dagger straight to the throat through the mouth using the knee, that is, it is likely that you read this and the first reaction is to say a big what the fuck?!, but I assure you that if you saw it, possibly caused the same impact and if you have not seen it, well, believe me you will enjoy too much that murder.
Conclusiones | Conclusions
Para los amantes de las películas medievales, les aseguro que todo estuvo bien hecho, los escenarios de batallas pudieron haber sido un poco mejor, sin embargo, como el conflicto de la película no estaba centrado en las campañas de los caballeros, no hicieron tanto énfasis en eso.
Por todo lo anteriormente mencionado le doy un 9/10 a esta película porque de verdad esperaba un poco más del personaje de Ben Affleck, pero no me gustó realmente, inclusive con el hecho de que sí se ve bastante bien con ese estilo de conde medieval, igual siento que no fue de sus mejores papeles.

For lovers of medieval movies, I assure you that everything was well done, the battle scenarios could have been a little better, however, as the conflict of the film was not centered on the campaigns of the knights, they did not emphasize that much.
For all the above mentioned I give this movie a 9/10 because I really expected a bit more from Ben Affleck's character, but I didn't really like it, even with the fact that he does look pretty good with that medieval count style, I still feel it wasn't one of his best roles.
