Hello everyone! One of the anime series I started watching right as I began university was undoubtedly Ao no Exorcist. I enjoyed it so much that I often watched it at night to clear my mind after dealing with endless numbers and code. I was thrilled when I heard about the movie—being a huge fan—and I have to say right off the bat that it’s one of my favorites on an emotional level; the plot was so well-crafted that it really moved me to tears. So, taking this opportunity, today I’m going to talk to you about this beautiful film.
Hola a todos, una de mis series de animes que comencé a ver a la par que mi inicio en la etapa universitaria sin duda fue AO no Exorcist, la cual era tanto de mi agrado que la solía colocar mucho en las noches a modo de despejar la mente de tantos números y códigos, y entre estas, cuando supe de su película, me sentí bastante feliz, puesto que la verdad era bastante fanática y debo decir de primeras que es de las que más me ha gustado en el sentido de lo sentimental, puesto que me hizo sacar unas buenas lágrimas por el buen argumento de la trama. Así que, bueno, aprovechando la ocasión, hoy les hablaré de esta hermosa película.
Written by Reiko Yoshida and directed by Atsushi Takahashi, this film is based on Kazue Kato’s Blue Exorcist manga and was produced by A-1 Pictures, a subsidiary of the renowned Aniplex. Distributed by Toho, it premiered in December 2012. The story recounts how, centuries ago, a small demon living in a rural village befriended the locals; the villagers became so engrossed in spending time with the creature that they neglected their daily tasks, causing the village to fall into ruin. Eventually, an exorcist sealed the demon away, restoring the village to normalcy. In the present day, Rin Okumura finds himself caught up in a festival at True Cross Academy where the demon is unleashed, leading to a confrontation that reveals the true nature of that ancient tale.
Escrita por Reiko Yoshida y dirigida por Atsushi Takahashi, esta fue basada en el manga de Blue Exorcist de Kazue Kato y producida en A-1 Pictures, siendo una filial de la conocida Aniplex. Esta se estrenó en diciembre de 2012, distribuida por Toho. Nos lleva a la trama donde se nos cuenta sobre cómo hace siglos un pequeño demonio que vivía en un pueblo rural, el cual, al haberse hecho amigo de los aldeanos, estos sin darse cuenta dejan sus actividades para pasar tiempo con este, haciendo que el mismo pueblo se vaya deteriorando hasta que un exorcista decide sellarlo y así la aldea vuelve a la normalidad. Y en la actualidad, Rin Okumura se verá envuelto en un festival que se celebra en la Academia True Cross y donde dicho demonio será liberado y volverá para así entender la realidad de aquella historia.
Although the premise of this film might seem somewhat grim—or even lean toward horror—to those unfamiliar with the series itself, the reality is that it focuses on something deeper and more profound. At its core lies a clear message—one that fits seamlessly into the established world of demons and exorcists without altering the plot—serving as a stark illustration of what happens when oblivion takes hold. It highlights the vital importance of memories to those who still cherish and wish to protect them, posing the question: what if, after living the happiest moments where we are truly ourselves, everyone else suddenly forgets—due to an event beyond anyone's control—leaving you as the sole guardian of those memories, tasked with ensuring they are never forgotten?
Aunque la premisa de esta película pudiera ser algo sombría e incluso estar en algo un poco de terror si no conocemos lo interno de la serie en sí, la realidad es que esta está enfocada en algo más profundo y duro. La razón de todo esto no es más que un mensaje claro y más aún con un argumento que se puede usar dentro de lo que conocemos del mundo de demonios y exorcistas sin siquiera alterar la trama, ya que es la demostración cruda de lo que pasa cuando el olvido toma el control y la importancia de los recuerdos para quien aún los conserva y los desea proteger, ya que nos plantea qué pasará si un día, luego de haber vivido los momentos más felices donde somos nosotros mismos, de pronto un día, gracias a una acción sin elección, todos olvidan eso menos tú, siendo el único encargado de no olvidar y recordar siempre.
And while we might have seen this concept in other installments and films, here it truly resonates. It strikes directly at the heart and mind of the protagonist. This theme is also present in the original series—specifically in the protagonists' origin stories, where their reality appears chaotic and distorted to others. It serves as a warning that in this world, a single misstep can forever alter how you are perceived—much like in real life, where we interact with people and environments while appearing happy, only for that to vanish overnight, leaving behind a sense of loss and lingering memories. Here, however, the situation is even more poignant because the figure embodying this demon is a child—a child who, in his innocence, unwittingly wreaks havoc and must make a decision he has faced before in order to restore normalcy.
Y aunque esta idea la pudiéramos ver en otras entregas y películas distintas, acá toma mucho sentido. Esto da directamente en el corazón y la mente de este protagonista. Esto incluso en la trama de la serie original se ve con el relato de la historia de origen de los protagonistas y cómo ante los demás es algo caótico y distorsionado, por lo que puede ser una advertencia de que es un mundo donde un paso en falso y ya no serás visto igual, algo parecido con la realidad, la verdad, donde compartimos con entornos y personas, mostrándonos felices, y de la noche a la mañana eso deja de ser y causa esa sensación de pérdida y recuerdo. No obstante, acá se nos muestra aún más triste debido a que quien encarna a este demonio es un niño, un niño que sin saber causa un caos en su inocencia y que debe tomar una decisión que ya ha tomado antes para que todo esté normal.
So, the question that it also poses to us is how much we are really willing to sacrifice, and that is that, having previously said everything previously said and then watching the film, it is impossible not to see it with eyes other than those of something that, at the end of the joy it provokes, we will know that the end will be bitter, and that is precisely what surprised me and I liked about this work, because the amount of emotions were brutal, even taking into account that this film came out before the second season of the anime, so it could be said that it was a revisitation. and a preparation for what I would see later, so in my opinion it is one of the best films if we really pay the necessary attention to everything, beyond that good animation and visual elements that it has.
Entonces, la pregunta que nos plantea también es qué tanto estamos dispuestos a sacrificar realmente, y es que, teniendo previamente todo lo antes dicho y luego viendo la película, es imposible no verla con otros ojos que no sean los de algo que, al final de la alegría que provoca, sabremos que el final será amargo, y justamente es lo que me sorprendió y me gustó de esta obra, porque la cantidad de emociones fueron brutales, incluso teniendo en cuenta que esta película salió antes de la segunda temporada del anime, por lo que podría decirse que fue una revisualización y una preparación para lo que vería luego, por lo que a mi parecer es una de las mejores películas si realmente le ponemos la atención necesaria en cada cosa, más allá de esa buena animación y de elementos visuales que posee.
As I mentioned at the start, this movie brought me to tears and made me reflect deeply on the subject; it has held great significance for me, and I have even watched it several times over the years—though I still haven't finished the series' second season. Como dije en un principio, esta película me sacó lágrimas y me hizo reflexionar bastante sobre ese tema; incluso la vi varias veces a lo largo de los años, siendo para mí de gran significado, a pesar de que aún no he terminado de ver la segunda temporada de la serie, y justamente en arte es por la visión que cambia luego de ver lapelícula, así que es muy recomendable verla en ese orden, por lo que, sin más que decir y esperando sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
