Hello everyone, there are times when scenes or melodies suddenly pop into our heads, opening our minds to satisfying memories or times when we laughed a lot. A few days ago, while waiting for the power to come on, a curious melody popped into my head. After thinking about it for a while, I remembered it was from a movie we used to watch as children. Talking about it brought back many funny scenes and explained why we loved it so much, even though it's quite old in terms of its release year. It was one of several movies that also marked a period when we frequently watched comedy and action films in this adventure and humor format. So today I'll give you my opinion on "I'm for the Hippopotamus".
Hola a todos, hay momentos donde de la nada se nos vienen escenas o melodías que nos abren la mente a recuerdos satisfactorios o etapas donde reíamos mucho y es que hace unos días, mientras esperaba a que llegara la luz, se me vino a la mente una melodía curiosa y que, luego de darle vueltas, recordé que era de una película que ponían de niña y, al hablar de esta, salieron muchas escenas divertidas y el porqué nos gustaba tanto a pesar de que es una película bastante vieja en lo que es el año de estreno, pero que a su vez estuvo acompañada de otras que también marcaron una etapa donde veíamos muy seguido géneros de comedia y acción en este formato de aventura y humor, por lo que hoy les daré mi opinión acerca de "Estoy con los hipopótamos".
Directed by Italo Zingarelli and written by Barbara Alberti, this comedy-adventure film, released in 1979, is a co-production between Italy and West Germany, distributed by MOKÉP. It stars the dynamic duo of the Italian era, who were enjoying great popularity. The plot follows two brothers, Slim and Tom, who live in an African village. Tom runs a small business and is feared for his robust physique, while Slim often gets into trouble with his brother for sabotaging things. However, they both become involved in helping to dismantle a shady animal trafficking operation, setting in motion a hilarious and ironic adventure.
Dirigida por Italo Zingarelli y escrita por Barbara Alberti, es una película de género comedia-aventuras, la cual se estrenó en el año 1979 y que es una coproducción de Italia y Alemania occidental y fue distribuida por MOKÉP, protagonizada por el dúo dinámico de la época italiana y los cuales tenían gran popularidad. En la trama de esta película se nos cuenta la vida de dos hermanos, Slim y Tom, los cuales viven en un poblado africano donde Tom tiene un pequeño negocio y es temido por su forma robusta, y Slim suele meterse en ciertos problemas con su hermano por sabotear un poco. Sin embargo, ambos se ven envueltos en ayudar a desmantelar unos negocios turbios de venta de animales y es donde una aventura divertida e irónica se pone en marcha.
This movie has that kind of cartoonish humor that can make even a child laugh, and with good reason. My sister and I watched it as children, and it was also very popular to see on CDs, especially since these actors had a variety of films where they tackled different classic stories of the era. Something that strikes me about this film is its touch of innocence and irony from the very beginning. It also clearly states its central objective, which is to show the importance of wildlife and not disturbing nature. And another thing I like about it is how it portrays the relationship between two very different siblings who, despite everything, remain united despite every setback.
Esta película tiene ese tipo de humor caricaturesco que hace reír hasta a un niño y, pues, con justas razones, mi hermana y yo la vimos de niñas y así mismo, y que también era muy popular de ver en los conocidos CDs y sobre todo porque estos actores tienen una variedad de películas donde ambos enfrentaban diversas historias clásicas de la época. Algo que me es llamativo en esta es ese toque de inocencia e ironía que tiene desde que la empiezas a ver, así como también tiene marcado el objetivo central, que es mostrar la importancia de la fauna y de no alterar lo natural, y también, y una de las cosas que me gustan de esta, es cómo muestran esa relación de hermanos tan distintos, pero dentro de todo unidos a pesar de cada chasco.
One of the reasons this film became popular, besides the plot, is the music used in it, the song "Grau Grau Grau." It opens with a harmonica intro that instantly sounds high-pitched to the listener, and as it progresses, the instrumental version and Bud Spencer's vocals become part of the original interpretation. It became one of the ways any fan of this dynamic duo can recognize them; even in Italy, the film's country of origin, it became a defining characteristic for the actors.
Una de las razones por las que esta película se volvió popular, además de la trama, es la música que se usa en ella, la canción "Grau Grau Grau", la cual se nos muestra en la misma con un inicio en armónica que hace que instantáneamente sea aguda para quien la escucha y, a medida que avanza y ya vemos la interpretación con instrumentos y la misma voz de Bud Spencer, forma parte de la interpretación original. Hicieron que fuera una de las formas con las que cualquier fan de este dúo dinámico los puede reconocer; incluso en Italia, el país de origen de esta, marcó un sello identificativo para los actores.
This movie has iconic scenes, like the one that's probably my favorite, where, after a sibling rivalry, their mother makes them fried eggs—but for comedic effect, they're ostrich eggs, making the scene hilarious; or the one with Slim, where he makes a smoothie with caviar and champagne, and his brother, being rude, makes a comment that kills the mood; or another where they stuff themselves with food, creating a pretty realistic sibling moment. And it's precisely this dynamic between siblings and comedy that makes this movie so well-known in our house, and why, even years later, we still remember it fondly.
Esta película tiene escenas icónicas como la que a mi parecer es mi favorita, donde, luego de un conflicto de hermanos, la madre de ambos les prepara unos huevos fritos, pero a razón de comedia, estos son de avestruz, haciendo la escena divertida; o la de Slim, donde hace un batido con caviar y champagne y su hermano, al ser ruda, hace un comentario matando el ambiente; o otra donde se atascan de comida, haciendo un momento bastante realista entre hermanos. Y justamente esta dinámica de hermanos y comedia es lo que hace que en casa sea bastante conocida esta película y que, incluso, al pasar de los años, la recordemos bastante.
This film, like others starring these actors, left a lasting impression on those who enjoyed family afternoons watching television. It was a place where it was most often shared, despite age differences, as it somehow resonated with everyone who watched it. In my family, everyone remembers it from different scenes or makes references to other films with the same actors, as they had a unique humor that stuck in our minds. Esta película, al igual que otras de estos mis actores, marcó mucho para aquellos que disfrutaban tardes familiares en el televisor, y era justamente donde más se compartía, a pesar de las diferencias de edades, ya que lograban llegar de alguna forma a quienes la veían. Y en mi familia, cada uno recuerda esta desde escenas distintas o hace referencias a otras de los mismos actores, ya que tenían un humor peculiar, pero que lograba entrar bien en el recuerdo. Y pues, justamente en mi caso, está en esa lista de favoritas y cómicas, por lo que, bueno, sin más que decir, y esperando sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
