Hi everyone, when I was a kid there was a movie that was often on TV that I always loved watching. It was about some toys that had a fictional adventure. A few days ago, while we were waiting for the power to come back on, I was talking about movies with my sister and a friend, and I mentioned this one. To my surprise, it seemed they hadn't seen it. As I told them a little about what it was about, they compared it to another movie. Instead of being annoyed, I found it funny, but I still got the itch to watch it again and find out more about this movie that made me laugh so much. So, after checking it out a few times, I'll take this opportunity today to tell you a little about this great 90s film called "Small Soldiers."
Hola a todos, de niña había una película que solían pasar mucho en televisión y que siempre disfrutaba mucho ver sobre ciertos juguetes que tenían una aventura de ficción, y hace unos días, en una conversación con mi hermana y un amigo, mientras esperábamos que llegara la luz, hablamos sobre películas e hice mención sobre esta y, para mi sorpresa, parece que ellos no la habían visto, por lo que, mientras les contaba un poco sobre qué trataba, ellos la comparaban con otra, por lo que, más allá de molestarme, me hizo gracia, pero aun así me quedó la espina de volver a verla y buscar más sobre esa película que tanto me hacía reír. Y bueno, luego de echar uno que otro vistazo, aprovecharé hoy para contarles un poco sobre esta gran obra de los 90 llamada "Pequeños guerreros."
Directed by Joe Dante and written by Gn Scott and Adam Rifkin, this Amblin Entertainment production, distributed by DreamWorks Pictures, was released in 1998. A science fiction, action, and children's film, it tells the story of toys that are mistakenly implanted with a military-grade chip, bringing them to life. This creates two opposing factions: the elite commandos and the Gorgonites. They engage in an endless struggle, with the ultimate goal being to remove the chip from the commandos, who then unleash chaos on a massive scale while the peaceful monsters are protected.

Nos narra cómo unos juguetes salen al mercado con un chip de tecnología militar implantado por error y el cual genera que estos cobren vida, generándose dos bandos: el comando de élite y los Gorgonitas, los cuales tendrán una lucha sin fin donde el objetivo será quitar dicho chip a los comandos, que comenzarán a causar caos a gran escala mientras se buscará proteger a los monstruos pacíficos.
This film has it all, from emotional conflicts and insecurities to, above all, excellent comedy that's not only set in the era but also complemented by the characters' on-screen presence, generating all sorts of moments that would undoubtedly draw criticism today, especially regarding the stereotypes involved. This is further compounded by the fact that we also see the real-life consequences of a poorly told story. The film depicts the Gorgonites as monsters that the Command is supposed to eliminate, despite their inherent goodness. However, after being chipped, they are revealed to be peaceful, even timid and fearful, offering a different perspective on the Command's potential ruthlessness. And this, beyond being mere fiction, serves as a stark illustration of what can happen when one believes they possess unchecked power.
En esta película se ve de todo, desde conflictos emocionales, inseguridades y sobre todo una muy buena comedia ambientada no solo a la época, sino que se complementa con la imagen de los personajes en pantalla, generando todo tipo de momentos que sin duda actualmente causarían críticas, sobre todo cuando se trata de los estereotipos en cuestión, y más mientras a su vez vamos viendo cómo se muestran las caras reales de lo que puede ser una historia mal contada. Puesto que en la película nos cuentan cómo los gorgonitas son monstruos que el comando debería eliminar, siendo buenos, pero que, al pasar por el chip, se ve que son pacíficos e incluso tímidos y miedosos, causando una vista distinta de lo despiadado a lo que puede llegar el comando. Y esto, más allá de lo que podría ser una ficción, es un poco de la muestra de lo que se hace cuando se cree tener un poder sin reglas.
It's undoubtedly one of those productions that leaves a lasting impression, and just mentioning it brings back scenes and moments that can make you laugh or even see something new. As I said before, in the plot, the Elite Command group takes control of the chip, and we see how it drastically alters the perception of various toys that any child might consider normal. For example, in what I consider one of the best scenes, it shows us the other side of perfectly stylized dolls and the reality of the perfect figure in a comical and funny vision of Barbies coming to life and revealing their negative side. I feel that today it would traumatize many a child, but back then, many of us even argued about which team we were on and dreamed of owning one of the figures, and personally, I still would.
Es sin duda de esas producciones que llegan a marcar mucho y, con solo mencionar, puedes recordar escenas y momentos que te pueden hacer reír o incluso ver algo nuevo. Esto, como dije antes, en la trama, el grupo Comando Élite toma el control del chip y vemos cómo este altera mucho la visión de diversos juguetes que cualquier niño podría tener normalizados. Por ejemplo, nos muestra en una de las que considera las mejores escenas de este la otra cara de las muñecas perfectamente estilizadas y la realidad de la figura perfecta en una visión cómica y divertida de unas Barbies cobrando vida y sacando su lado negativo, cosa que siento que actualmente traumaría a más de un niño, pero que en su tiempo muchos incluso nos disputábamos el equipo que éramos y soñábamos con tener alguna de las figuras y, personalmente, aún las quisiera.
The way this film is structured was so good that even years later the creator was still asked about the ending of the film and whether the Gorgonites' objective had been achieved. After so many past moments, and you know, when a plot has that ostentatious aura, when the author himself gives that comment that, beyond the fact that it may not have much to do with the logic of the plot, manages to revive those of us who enjoyed the film, making us feel that feeling of satisfaction, and that in this case the same author said that yes, the objective was achieved (for the Gorgonites to return to their home), generating emotions in the current adults who one day were in front of the television watching this great work. So, in short, it is fun, it touches on themes that are very ahead of the time, it has that spark of irreverence and an animation that, although it is not the coolest and most detailed, is and was capable of staying positively impressed on an audience. So, well, I feel that it is one of those little gems that last and is always good, because without further ado and hoping that you like it, thank you very much for reading this post.
La forma en la que se va estructurando esta película fue tan buena que incluso años después aún se seguía preguntando al creador acerca del final de esta y si el objetivo de los gorgonitas se había cumplido. Luego de tantos momentos pasados, y sabes, cuando una trama tiene esa aura ostiva, cuando el mismo autor da ese comentario que, más allá de que quizás no tenga mucho que ver con la lógica de la trama, logra reavivar a quienes disfrutamos la película, haciéndonos sentir esa sensación de satisfacción, y que en este caso el mismo autor dijo que sí, el objetivo fue cumplido (el que los gorgonitas regresaran a su hogar), generando emociones en los adultos actuales que algún día estuvimos frente al televisor viendo esta gran obra. Por lo que, en resumen, es divertida, toca temas muy adelantados a la época, tiene esa chispa de irreverencia y una animación que, aunque no es la más genial y detallada, es y fue capaz de quedarse grabada de manera positiva en un público. Así que, bueno, siento que es una de esas joyitas que perduran y siempre es buena, porque sin más que decir y esperando que sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer este post.
