Hello everyone, if there's one actor whose films I consistently enjoy, it's Hugh Jackman. This year, one of the movies I was most looking forward to was the one with the sheep detectives; I was really excited about it. However, to my surprise, a few days ago, while we were looking for a movie to watch as usual, one popped up on the list that caught our attention, and it just so happened to star the same actor. So, with curiosity and that eagerness for the plot with its touch of suspense, we decided to watch it, and I must say I liked it enough to leave me with some interesting emotions at the end. Therefore, today I'll give you my opinion on "The Death of Robin Hood."
Hola a todos, si hay un actor con el que sin duda disfruto varias de sus películas que interpreta, es Hugh Jackman. Este año, una de las películas que esperaba ver era donde salen ovejas detectives, pues me hacía mucha ilusión. Sin embargo, para mi sorpresa, hace unos días, mientras buscábamos una película para ver por costumbre, salió en la lista una que nos llamó la atención y que justamente el mismo actor era quien la protagonizaba, por lo que con curiosidad y esa entrega por la trama propuesta con esa pizca de suspenso, nos dispusimos a verla y debo decir que me gustó lo suficiente para hacerme emociones interesantes al final de esta, por lo que hoy les daré mi opinión acerca de "La muerte de Robin Hood".
Directed by Michael Sarnoski and filmed in Northern Ireland, this film had two premieres: the first at the 73rd Sydney Film Festival and the second in US theaters, both in 2026. Produced by Lyrical Media and distributed by A24, this action-adventure drama, rated R, presents a melancholic take on the classic tale of the childhood adventurer. Now an older man, haunted by his past, he reveals a sense of frustration with his life's events and how he is now a fearful outlaw who must embark on one last adventure to learn a final lesson about life.
Dirigida por Michael Sarnoski y con rodaje en Irlanda del Norte, esta tuvo dos estrenos, siendo el primero en el 73.º Festival de Cine de Sídney y el segundo en los cines estadounidenses, ambos en 2026. Esta fue bajo la producción de Lyrical Media y distribuida por A24, teniendo género de drama de acción y aventuras, así como una clasificación de R, y es que en esta se nos presenta una interpretación melancólica de la clásica historia del aventurero de la infancia de muchos. Este vive ya en edad mayor, atormentado por su pasado, mostrándonos un lado de frustración por todo lo que ha significado su vida y cómo ahora es un forajido con temor y que deberá pasar por su última aventura antes de entender una última enseñanza acerca de la vida.
Something I must admit is that I like it when these stories, which are usually so positive and have fairytale themes, allow us to consider or see variations with those frustrations or underlying issues that might occur within the story everyone believes is perfect, and this is a clear demonstration of that. Seeing a Robin Hood without that joy and fearlessness we used to see in each adaptation over the years is striking. Here, he's a man who carries the weight of each death, the remorse, and that sadness that little by little turns into depression and self-isolation because he feels he deserves less and less from the world, the distrust after betrayals and blows from life, and that resurgence—not fantastical, but human—in what it means to redeem yourself and understand that your past is gone and you can move forward and forgive yourself for judging yourself so harshly. And what I liked most about this is that they don't show it all at once; It is an elaborate work full of processes until little by little layers of that insecurity and apathy are peeled away and that real struggle and understanding emerges.
Algo que debo admitir es que me gusta cuando en estas historias que suelen ser tan positivas y con temáticas de cuentos de hadas llegamos a pensar o a ver variantes con esas frustraciones o trasfondos que pudieran pasar dentro de la historia que todos creen es perfecta, y esta es una clara demostración de ello. Ver un Robin Hood sin esa alegría y esa demostración de no tener miedo que solíamos ver en cada adaptación conforme pasan los años es algo que llega a ser llamativo. Acá es un hombre que carga el peso de cada muerte, el remordimiento y esa tristeza que poco a poco se convierte en depresión y un autoaislamiento por sentir que merece cada vez menos del mundo, la desconfianza luego de traiciones y golpes de la vida y ese resurgir no fantasioso, sino humano, en lo que es redimirte y entender que tu pasado ya pasó y tú puedes seguir avanzando y darte ese perdón propio por juzgarte tanto. Y lo que más me gustó de esto es que no lo muestran de golpe; es un trabajo elaborado y lleno de procesos hasta que poco a poco se van desprendiendo capas de esa inseguridad y apatía y va surgiendo esa lucha y entendimiento real.
This film is complex to watch, beyond how each character is introduced, the dangers they face, and even how the last member of the group arrives to give Robin the push he needs to go. Robin becomes emotionally strong because he's someone who feels vulnerable, seeking to protect others and, ultimately, avoid abandonment after his personal growth. One theme I particularly like is Robin's constant torment over the stories told about him over the years—the exaggerated tales and the portrayal of him as the most ruthless and desirable outlaw. This imagery significantly alters the original version of events, and it shows how much he suffers because he's uncomfortable with it. At times, it's a true reflection of life and how we can lose control of how others perceive us, and the struggle to define ourselves and avoid falling into that trap, something that is powerfully depicted in this film.
Esta película es compleja de ver, más allá de cómo se presentan cada personaje, los peligros e incluso cómo llega este último integrante del grupo para dar el empujón hacia donde Robin necesita ir y llega a ser fuerte emocionalmente porque es alguien que está sintiéndose vulnerable, buscando proteger y, llegado el punto, evitar el abandono luego del avance personal. Hay un tema que me gusta mucho que tocan y es el tormento constante de Robin con respecto a lo que se cuenta de él con los años, las historias exageradas y la puesta de él como el forajido más atroz y deseado, llegando a alterar y cambiar mucho la versión original y cómo él sufre por ello, pues no está cómodo con ello y en ocasiones una muestra real de lo que es la vida y cómo llegamos a perder el control de esa visión de lo que hay de nosotros ante los demás y la lucha por definirnos y no caer en esa mentira, cosa que se ve fuertemente en esta película.
In terms of visuals and effects, it's perfect; it doesn't need to exaggerate or alter anything. The landscapes perfectly complement the plot, and the expressions play a vital role, because this film truly conveys so much. We feel intrigue, anger, doubt, fear, and finally, melancholy mixed with sadness at the end, which leaves you reflecting, and the conclusion is simply beautiful. It's undoubtedly a film to watch carefully and appreciate in detail; it's not for laughs or expecting more of the same, but rather for seeing something different that is truly excellent, so it's definitely recommended. A nivel de imagen y efectos, es perfecta; no ocupa exagerar ni alterar, solo los paisajes llegan a acompañar más que bien la trama y las expresiones llegan a jugar un papel importante, porque realmente transmite muchísimo esta película. Sentimos intriga, ira, duda, temor y finalmente melancolía mezclada con tristeza en el final de esta, pues te deja reflexionando y el cierre es simplemente hermoso. Es sin duda una película para ver detenidamente y apreciar en detalle; no es para reír ni esperar más de lo mismo, sino ver algo distinto que realmente es muy bueno, por lo que es sin duda recomendada.
