Hello Steemians, I hope you all are having a wonderful day and so do I. Reason? I am back with the review. Last week I posted something on Valentines Day to declare my love. Yes, my love for Movies, (Shhhh, my girl doesn't need to know). And me being the complete idiot and the lazy guy that I am. I put the stuff that makes me happy for later and did what I don't want to do, like going to the office, worrying about paying bills and planning a trip to Puducherry which I will throw away anyway.
But all the boring things aside here I am. And this is Movie that had given M Night Shyamalan direction for direction further. This is 1999 hit supernatural Horror film
"THE SIXTH SENSE"
Spoiler Alert: I believe everyone has seen this movie atleast once and those who have not, Please go and watch it. I recommend it highly. I will try my best to avoid spoilers but I can't promise anything and it has been almost twenty years since its release If you hadn't seen this cinematic wonder what kind of the movie have you been watching?
Movie starts with scene where the Dr Malcome Crowe (Played by Bruce Willis, wait don't hate him this was before those god awful unnecessary sequels of Die Hard.) and the wife (Anna Crowe played by Olivia Williams) celebrating the achievement of Malcome Crowe as a leading child psychologist. They finds out that they had a break in their house and offender turns out to be former patient of Dr Malcome. The offender shot the doctor wounding him and then kills himself.
The doctor after a while starts attending to young patient Cole sear played by Haley Joel Osment, the doctor even though suffering from trauma decided to help the kid. This puts more distance between him and already estranged wife. Doctor sees the similarities between the boy and the former patient who commits suicide and tries to go all the way to help and understand the boy as a way of seeking redemption for his mistakes with the former patient case. The boy seems to be afraid and socially awkward. And the stress on the relationship with his mother (Played by Toni Collette) because of his behavior.
After few meetings and conversation between the Doctor and the Kid a friendship kinda bonds build up and that reveals the boy delivering the iconic line of "I see dead people". The boy let the doc know that he can see the deceased one and his afraid of them. At first the doc being skeptical of the idea and thinks that Cole is delusional but later accepts it after coming across evidence from old recordings. And decided to help the kid through this situation. And advised him to communicate with the ghosts and find a solutions that they seek.
Cole helps a ghost find peace and thus gains confidence tells about his power to his mother in a very emotional way. Meanwhile Dr Malcome returns to his home to find his peace.
Conclusion
I am not going to lie, This wasn't my first viewing of the film and thats what made this time watch all the more exciting. The brilliant slow music and the slow pace of the movie adds more to the eeriness. Sometimes the absence of music in the screen makes the scene more real. Add into that the acting by everyone involved, Especially by the Haley Joel Osment who being a child actor went to win many awards. Just look at his Wikipedia page. This movie was a wonderful experience and no doubt why it is there in the American Film Institute List of 100 thrills. Inside of following the horror genre troupe it took us to the ride of emotion and eeriness. The story is so well told that audience may have to go back to events in their mind to connect the dots. Watch this and you can understand, why M Night Shyamalan is titled as the master of twist.
