Hello, how is everyone, Scrooble Life community? Today I come to write about a movie that impresses me a lot, especially because of the message it leaves behind. It is very entertaining and, as if that weren't enough, it is also related to sports, specifically basketball, something that I love. This movie is called Coach Carter.
This is the story of a team that was doing really poorly in the basketball league. They didn't know what winning was and it was very difficult for them, the players. Furthermore, part of this bad streak was because the players were not committed with discipline to the game of basketball.
Something that marked the entire team was the arrival of a new coach. His name is Carter. What he did to change the dynamic was something that previous coaches had not done: demand that all team members study before playing.
Because imagine: if you only dedicate yourself to playing basketball and neglect your studies, it could be difficult. The coach demanded that they also prepare themselves to have a good future, and that was achieved by studying.
The coach knows that many times young people can get involved in bad paths. That is why he demanded that all players give their best in their studies. He even did something quite incredible: lock the gym where all the players trained until the kids committed to their studies.
This made fans question his methods, but the coach had a clear idea: study, basketball, and good rules could bring the team forward. Furthermore, he knew they had to prepare for life.
Ken Carter accepts coaching the Richmond High School team. Let's remember that the coach demands a lot of discipline and commitment to the game and to their studies. Many players did not agree with his methods. He was even so firm that he removed players from the team who did not agree with his demands.
In addition, Carter knew that winning games was not enough. If the kids were at Richmond, he knew they had a good opportunity to also excel academically.
They also knew that Carter's son was on this team. Can you imagine that the son had to comply with what his father said? Besides being a good player, he had to be very good in his studies.
Let's also remember that, at times, managers' children can face others believing they only play because they are the coach's son. But not here: Carter's son also proved that he had talent to play basketball and, of course, strove to give his best in training. I think that way he could earn a starting spot on the team.
The players, at the beginning, as I mentioned, did not work together, had no rules for the game, had no coach to show them the way, but with Carter he makes them work as a team, making them achieve the longest winning streak in Richmond basketball history, a truly legendary streak for that school.
But despite the victories, the kids became overly confident in their game because fame caught up with them as a winning team, they got too confident and, well, Coach Carter has to take control of the situation again. Here, if you can watch the movie, you will see what happens in more detail.
At times, to achieve victories in life, one must learn to be perseverant, consistent, and put in the greatest effort, especially in a sport like basketball, where the more you train or practice, the better you can become at playing this sport.
And this, for me, is something that isn't just based on basketball, but also in all other areas of life. Example: to write blogs, one learns over time, the more one publishes on Hive or also when learning new methodologies. And it's the same with perseverance: blogging improves over time.
Coach Carter knows what he wants, he knows that if he imposes his style of play he can receive criticism from both the players and the players' own families, and even from the fans. As we well know, receiving criticism is not easy at all, because if one is not prepared to receive it, it can affect one's mental health.
But perhaps Carter knew his methods were best, even though I also think this coach could have doubted himself by being so tough. But I think, if you watch the end credits of this movie, you can see that his style of play improved many lives.
Coach Carter establishes agreements that only those with good grades will play, or otherwise if they don't improve they wouldn't be part of the team. This makes the challenge for the players not only in playing sports, but also having to care for their academic area and thus aspire to a broader future than just being a basketball player, but educating themselves and being able to have a better life. Coach Carter knows that with this he helps the entire team.
Movie opinion and takeaways
What I highlight from this is that the coach knew what he wanted for the team. He was a person with a strong personality who knew that, to help young people, he had to demand more from them beyond academics.
I also liked how he helps families in need, because getting out of financial hardship is not easy. We can see a player in the movie whose girlfriend was pregnant. Her name was Kyra and she also had to think about a future for her family. The player I'm referring to is named Kenyon Stone, who had to overcome obstacles and think about himself and others.
Timo Cruz, a player who did not want Carter's discipline and did not agree, was involved in gangs. Therefore, everything related to rules became difficult for him. In the movie we can also see the outcome of what happens with the players.
I also like the life changes the coach makes; there are many. That's why you will like this movie if you want to see an inspiring film that talks about the importance of education and continuing to fight for a better life. Well, this has been my review of the movie Coach Carter. See you in a future post.
