Even today, 1917 continues to move me with its technical prowess in the service of an emotional story. To see it again on blu ray is to relive the experience in the armchair.

At the beginning it transports me with its breathtaking, almost breathless sequence shot.

To walk alongside Schofield and Blake through hellish battlefields is to feel the desperation of war first hand.

But it also offers glimpses of hope, such as the noble friendship and bravery these men display.

Sam Mendes makes the epic human through intimate details amidst the chaos.

Roger Deakins deserved every award for his cinematography, and the tandem editing transported me to the very heart of the conflict with heartbreaking realism.

Though at times harrowing, it is impossible not to marvel at its technical feat, rarely has cinema achieved such immersion in the war experience.

A major work that is here to stay. Every image is so well crafted that it looks like a painting.

1917 continues to disturb and move me in equal measure.
