Dead For A Dollar, a collector's item

When Walter Hill, the master of hard-boiled action cinema, approached veteran Christoph Waltz to star in Dead For A Dollar, he knew he was brewing a true western masterpiece.

As the mercenary Max Borlund, Waltz proves once again why he is the most fascinating actor of his generation.

With subtlety and vigour, he plays a lone bounty hunter immersed in the turbulent frontier world of Colorado.

Under the steady, precise direction of Hill, who resurrects the genre with his classic viscerality, Borlund must track a captive through the wilderness.

What begins as just another job soon becomes personal.

With his impeccable cinematography on magnetic exteriors, Hill transports the eye to the mythical settings of the Wild West and the action is pure cinematic adrenaline.

But beyond the gunpowder, the masterful study of an unavoidable anti-hero triumphs.

Dead For A Dollar is the auteur western we deserved, Hill returns the genre to its purest roots.

A true collector's item from the hand of Waltz, always a pleasure to watch on screen. My favourite western in years.
