In the midst of World War I, two English soldiers find themselves in a dangerous situation.

They must transit through hostile enemy territory with the utmost urgency to deliver a crucial order to their commanding colonel.

The order is to stop an imminent attack, which is doomed to failure and will lead to a deadly ambush.

The 1917 film is truly extraordinary as it seamlessly blends form and content to create an immersive experience for its viewers.

The film follows two soldiers on a journey that is divided into two large arcs, all filmed simulating one continuous shot.

This technical achievement is both impressive and, at times, overwhelming.

While the sequence shot can simultaneously focus and distract attention, it offers a unique perspective on the war from the point of view of two privates.

The attention to detail in the film's settings is tremendous, from the trenches to the no man's land to the ruins.

Every aspect of the film is truly incredible. George MacKay's performance as the lead is nothing short of outstanding.

1917 is truly Hollywood: the big show yearns to formally embrace an idea or feeling and give us a sense of fulfillment that life rarely if ever gives us, i.e., "larger than life."

If the film was not very successful, it certainly came very close.
