The film that has had the biggest impact on me recently is "Till", the heartbreaking biographical drama about the murder of Emmett Till directed by Chinonye Chukwu.
With a realistic and visceral style, it conveys the brutality of racism in deep America in 1955.
Danielle Deadwyler shines in her role as Mama Till, bringing the strength and courage of a woman who fought tirelessly for justice.
Jalyn Hall simply communicates the innocence of young Emmett before the inferno, while Whoopi Goldberg adds a layer of depth as the elderly Mama Till.
With no need for cheap shots or morbidity, Chukwu manages to make an impact with its precise direction and photography that never diverts the gaze, it poses a timeless dilemma about silence and social denunciation.
I was pleasantly surprised that such a harsh film could be shot with such dignity and respect.
A necessary film to remind us of the open wounds of the past and the ever-present struggle. Impossible not to be moved.
The sober soundtrack by Abel Korzeniowski deserves a special mention. "Till" will remain one of the most important releases of the year, capable of opening consciences with its mere existence.
