Hola amigos de Hive, desde que participé en el concurso de películas de terror antiguas, convocado por @wiseagent, se ha convertido en una especie de habito para mi ver películas de terror del siglo pasado. Y si bien no son las mejores producciones, sí que tienen algo que me atrapa, y es que son historias muy diferentes de las que estamos acostumbrados a ver en la actualidad, incluso más simples, con argumentos sencillos que no permiten malos entendidos, o la necesidad de buscar un texto o video explicativo de la película.

Y bien, en esta ocasión ha llamado mi atención “La mujer Avispa”, una película de ciencia ficción y terror en blanco y negro producida en 1959, dirigida por Roger Corman, y protagonizada por Susan cabot, esta pelicula ha sido calificada con un 4.9 por el portal filmaffinity, lo cual me resulta más o menos acertado , pues a pesar de que me ha gustado y he disfrutado la película, el final es un poco débil restándole calidad a una gran historia.

La Mujer Avispa narra la historia de una compañía de cosméticos de belleza que se encuentra en un momento crítico, pues las ventas han disminuido abismalmente debido a que la estrategia publicitaria ligada a la imagen de la dueña de la compañía, la señorita Starlin cuyos años se empiezan a notar en su rostro, ya no capta el interés de los consumidores. De manera que Starlin, una chica vanidosa decide buscar la forma de rejuvenecer su rostro para seguir siendo la imagen publicitaria de su compañía.

Esto lleva a Starlin a encontrarse con un científico, el Dr. Eric Zinthrop, quien ha sido despedido de una empresa apicultura por desviarse de las investigaciones sobre la jalea real de abeja reina que debía llevar a cabo, enfocándose en cambio, en descubrir una fórmula rejuvenecedora utilizando la jalea real de avispa, investigación en la cual parecía estar teniendo éxito. Por ello, la señorita Starlin en su afán por volver a ser joven e impresionada por las demostraciones de la fórmula sobre animales, decide ser la conejillo de indias del Dr. Zinthrop, para que la fórmula fuese utilizada por primera vez sobre humanos, lo cual por el título de la película, pueden intuir que todo termina saliéndose de control.

Lo que más me ha gustado de esta película es que su historia se da de manera fluida, los diálogos y como se desarrollan los acontecimientos mantienen nuestra atención durante toda la película, las escenas de terror son pocas y los efectos son bastante simples, en cuanto a esto último no esperaba más para una película de 1959. Pero sin duda hay un gran trabajo en el guion, lo que considero su principal fuerte. Tiene buena musicalización y escenas de la ciudad de Manhattan que nos ubican en la época.

Siempre que puedo, me gusta hacer una reflexión sobre cada película que veo, y de esta podría decir que nos invita a ser menos impulsivos, porque cuando lo somos tenemos el 90% de probabilidades de que las cosas salgan mal, siempre debemos mantener la calma y apegarnos a los métodos comprobados y a la opinión de los profesionales. De igual forma, se puede acotar como reflexión que debemos ser flexibles, cuando algo no esta funcionando, debemos aceptarlo y buscar soluciones razonables y no empeñarnos por continuar con la misma fórmula fracasada, no hay que enfrascarse, siempre hay que ir hacia adelante e innovar. Y Por último, diría que la belleza no viene siempre de un rostro joven y bonito, la belleza física es algo pasajero y debemos trabajar más en quienes somos, en nuestro trato con los demás y lo que aportamos al mundo, considero a esas, verdaderas razones para ser admirados.

What I liked most about this movie is that its story is given in a fluid way, the dialogues and how the events unfold keep our attention during the whole movie, the horror scenes are few and the effects are quite simple, as for the latter I didn't expect more for a movie from 1959. But there is certainly a great job in the script, which I consider its main strength. It has good music and scenes of the city of Manhattan that place us in the era.

Whenever I can, I like to make a reflection on every movie I see, and of this one I could say that it invites us to be less impulsive, because when we are we have a 90% chance of things going wrong, we should always keep calm and stick to proven methods and the opinion of professionals. In the same way, as a reflection, we should be flexible, when something is not working, we should accept it and look for reasonable solutions and not insist on continuing with the same failed formula, we should not get stuck, we should always go forward and innovate. And finally, I would say that beauty does not always come from a young and beautiful face, physical beauty is something fleeting and we must work more on who we are, in our dealings with others and what we bring to the world, I consider those, real reasons to be admired.
