Welcome Hivers to my new Let's Compare post. Today, we are going to compare the Shadow Hunters series and movie, which were adaptations of Cassandra Clare's books.
Cassandra Clare, the writer of the books "The Mortal Instruments" translated in Latin America as "Shadow Hunters" started to be published in 2007. It has been very well accepted by young audiences due to the fantastic plot that revolves around Clary Fray and her friends, within the underworld and the dangers that are found there.
The books of the original saga are 6: City of Bone, City of Ashes, City of Crystal, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire. They tell the story of Clary Fray, she lives with her mother Joselyn and has her best friend Simon. However, when her mother is kidnapped she discovers her hidden past within an organization that is in charge of eliminating demons in our world.
From this moment on, I recommend you if you haven't read the books, seen the movie or part of the series, stop reading if you don't want spoilers.
The 2009 film, starring Lily Collins and Jaime Campbell Bower, with the participation of Lena Headey as Joselyn. It wasn't a box office success, not only because of the selection of the protagonists that wasn't completely right for the readers, who were disappointed by the cast. For me in particular, when I am described as Jace, I think of an actor like Alex Pettyfer, my question is: who do you think of when you describe Jace?
Also, the original plot set out in the books was not as heroic as it was supposed to be. The changes and twists that hooked us in the writing were not seen on screen, such as the reason for Simon's abduction by the vampires, Valentine and Joselyn's relationship that is barely touched and the reason for Luke's transformation into a Lycan. What added another disappointment in the spectators who expected to know a little more of the history of the protagonists and those closest to them.
Some things were similar like the kidnapping of Joselyn and the first meeting of Jace, Clary and Valentine, however, they needed to be developed, as I mentioned in my post: SM: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

On the other hand, the series broadcast by Netflix from 2016 was an improvement. After 3 seasons, the series ended with better reviews than the movie. However, in my opinion, the plot is very slow compared to the books, which bores the viewer.
The casting selection was much better, although the unnecessary twists, like Joselyn's death, Clary's attempt to revive her and the attack on the Institute with one of Valentine's shadows, distracted attention from more important things that were happening like the theft of the Deadly Sword (by the way, there was no need to investigate with the Iron Sisters).
I particularly liked the series more, although there were some plot changes that bothered me, they were closer to the story of the book, than the movie. And you already saw them? Leave in your comments your appreciations, they will be very well received.
