I'll start by saying that this movie has a 3.4 rating on iMDB (it went up to 3. 5), so that only means one thing, I love it madly and although I understand why it has that score, it doesn't change the fact that I think the world sucks and the moment they show you things as they are they do everything they can to hide that reality and sabotage as much as possible things like this movie, which shows a small portion of reality, but since it is a reality that very few people live, it should not have any recognition, so they take for granted that this kind of movies should never exist, because beyond entertaining and telling a story, it slaps as many people as possible reminding them of the privileges they have and that they should be grateful for, because things are different for the rest of the people.
The plot of this movie is very simple, we will arrive at a gay conversion camp, where lgbtqia+ people go, almost always against their will, to try to become heterosexual people, who follow the rules that society imposes on who they should be and who they should like, in order to fit into a society that discriminates, murders, humiliates, marginalizes them, that does everything possible because their existence is hell and the only option is death. In this camp we will have lesbians, gays, transsexuals, bisexuals, and a non-binary trans person who will be the protagonist. A series of murders will begin to take place here, and at the least expected moment everything will be mixed, the horror of what is lived in the camp and unexpected deaths.

The movie has bad things, that is impossible to hide, I never fool myself saying that something is good when it is not, I love bad movies that have no salvation, and this is not one of those movies, it has its bad moments, but they are things that any other movie would be forgiven and that's it, but since it's a movie about sex conversion camps and shows a small part of other people's reality, no, you have to sabotage as much as possible something that barely managed to see the light of day and went out into the world with its veins cut without the option to live.
The film is not defined between the Slasher or Drama genre, that is its biggest flaw, most of the film is the dramatic story of the campers and we are given in short parts of the horror scenes that only baffle and fail to make a greater impression, not having achieved a fusion between the two genres the story feels flimsy, implausible, without foundation, and only overcoming that is that you can enjoy the film; I didn't have a problem with that, I'm already tired of seeing generic films acclaimed by the world, so seeing something different that has the same mistakes as thousands of other films doesn't mean anything.

Having said the bad, now I'm going with the good. I guess I'll never get tired of saying that representation is one of the most important things there is, even more so when I found out that Hunter Schafer thinks and believes that non-binary people should stop calling attention to themselves and say that they are not part of the trans community because they don't undergo hormone treatments. It has nothing to do with the movie, but I had to say it somewhere, she's already gone to shit for me. Anyway, it has become a necessity for me that there are more movies like this, movies that show the reality of queer people in the world, whether they are bad or good, none of that has any relevance to me, hundreds of heterosexual and heteronormative movies are released a year and 99% are bad and no one says anything, so fuck you, I love this movie and I know there are people who do too no matter what.
The dramatic part of the story is very well done, the truth, as the director wanted, the queer was the protagonist, it is the protagonist, and of that there is no doubt, if the movie would have stayed only with the drama it would have been perfect, well, maybe not, but it would have been much better than the mix of slasher with drama that terrible they did here. From the beginning we will see people who struggle with who they are, who try to understand themselves, but live in environments that do not allow them to develop as people, religious families, heteronormative neighborhoods, homophobic schools; all this only increases the anxiety and fear they have to be different, because they have no safe places to express themselves and to explore their existence in freedom, and that is something that has been lived and continues to live day by day around the world, I could not identify more with the characters just because they did not give me more time, because if not, I fall in love with all of them and I love them as friends.

The film is good, simple, it does not hide the secrets of the world, its problem is that they tried to do more than they could, and I do not blame them, not only is it the first time I see a horror film that includes non-binary people, but you have to know how to do all that so that the weight of the queer does not overshadow the horror, nor that the horror overshadows the queer, and here the balance was not balanced at all, the film has no balance, the truth. It would have been better to leave it as a dramatic film and not mix it with horror, because the reality of the conversion camps is already terrifying enough.
Dudes, the trailer is a marvel, I hadn't seen it until the moment I was finishing writing this review and I'm even more right when I say that they deceive people, I mean, it's the perfect trailer of a queer slasher, but they didn't know how to do it, and I won't get tired of saying it, they didn't know how to do it, I loved the trailer, but it's just a deception.
To finish I'm going to tell you a joke that only makes sense in English, but I don't care. 'How does a non binary assassin kill? They/Them'. I can't stand laughing anymore, the joke translated would be How does a non binary assassin kill? Elle slashes him, but in reality the answer refers to the pronouns in English, not to the act of killing as such, and the joke already loses meaning when translated, but I couldn't stop saying it, I love it too much.
'How does a non binary assasin kills? They/Them'.
