No se cual es la intención de hacer películas que siempre rondan bajo la misma premisa: los espías retirados con dobles vidas. Supongo que cuando hacen las propuestas pensarán que es algo que siempre les va a gustar a las personas o porque es lo más fácil de hacer dada la inmensa cantidad de films de estas características; creería que Netflix en menos de 6 meses ha sacado como 3 títulos parecidos. Pero a pesar de todo lo cliché con lo que realmente me gustaría quedarme es con el regreso de Cameron Díaz a la gran pantalla, el crush de muchos después de películas como La Máscara o los Ángeles de Charlie. Hay que nombrar también a Jamie Foxx quien hace no mucho estuvo bastante delicado de salud.

I don't know what the intention is to make films that always hover under the same premise: retired spies with double lives. I guess when they make the proposals they think it's something that people will always like or because it's the easiest thing to do given the immense amount of films of these characteristics; I would believe that Netflix in less than 6 months has released like 3 similar titles. But despite all the cliché what I would really like to stay with is the return of Cameron Diaz to the big screen, the crush of many after films like The Mask or Charlie's Angels. We must also mention Jamie Foxx, who not long ago was in poor health.

Esta historia es con Emily y Matt, dos agentes de la CIA que desempeñaban labores de espías e infiltraciones para llevar a cabo operaciones contra cualquier enemigo/terrorista/mercenarios que se interpongan en su camino. La cosa es que cuando están celebrando la culminación de una operación sucede algo que da vuelta a todo y lo que en principio parecía resuelto ya no lo está. Esto les da una oportunidad a ellos de considerar sus vidas y así lo decide, desaparecen por completo del mapa de este mundo. Pasan los años, 15 para ser exactos, y ellos están en medio de la vida promedio, la típica casa americana, con trabajos comunes y corrientes y con par de hijos bien particulares.

This story is with Emily and Matt, two CIA agents performing spy and infiltration work to carry out operations against any enemy/terrorist/mercenaries that get in their way. The thing is that when they are celebrating the culmination of an operation something happens that turns everything upside down and what at first seemed solved is no longer solved. This gives them a chance to consider their lives and so they decide, they disappear completely from the map of this world. Years go by, 15 years to be exact, and they are in the middle of the average life, the typical American home, with ordinary jobs and a couple of very particular children.

Pero como siempre sucede el pasado nunca desaparece por completo de la vida de estos agentes y eventualmente vuelve para cobrar cosas pendientes. Es acá cuando comienza una persecución por dos países en donde esta familia buscará ponerse a resguardo al mismo tiempo que tratar de resolver el lío que otra vez está surgiendo en torno a ellos. La verdad es que todo tiene que ver con un arma o artefacto que es capaz de controlar muchas cosas (como siempre) y con un par de personas que están detrás de eso (como siempre también). Se que estoy infiriendo que hay muchos clichés, porque los hay, pero al final del día estamos ante un film entretenido y típico de este estilo. Más allá de todo esto es una película para verla en piloto automático, sin pensar mucho.

But as it always happens, the past never completely disappears from the lives of these agents and eventually returns to collect unfinished business. It is here when a chase begins through two countries where this family will try to get to safety and at the same time try to solve the mess that once again is arising around them. The truth is that everything has to do with a weapon or artifact that is capable of controlling many things (as always) and with a couple of people who are behind it (as always too). I know I'm inferring that there are a lot of clichés, because there are, but at the end of the day we are in front of an entertaining and typical film of this style. Beyond all this it's a film to watch on autopilot, without thinking too much.

Esta producción tendrá sentido si y sólo si hay una segunda parte. Los huecos que quedan con el final son muy grandes, es muy abierto como termina todo por lo que si eso fue una decisión de dirección sin la intención de una continuación, esto es lamentable. Por eso quiero pensar que algo más vendrá. De no ser así pues lo dicho, la trama queda con cosas sin resolver, ese guión quedaría muy incompleto, honestamente no le veo el sentido. Esto daña la película? - un poco pero no es el fin del mundo. La trama en si es super plana, pasa todo lo que uno se imagina y sabe que va a pasar ya que no es la primera vez que vemos un film de este género.

This production will make sense if and only if there is a sequel. The gaps left with the ending are very big, it's very open ended how it all ends so if that was a directorial decision without the intention of a sequel, this is unfortunate. That's why I want to think that something else will come. If not, then the plot is left with unresolved things, this script would be very incomplete, I honestly don't see the point. Does this damage the movie? - A little, but it's not the end of the world. The plot itself is super flat, everything happens that one imagines and knows that it will happen since it is not the first time we see a film of this genre.

Como es obvio hay mucha comedia, Foxx es muy bueno en eso, además del exceso de carisma de Cameron Diaz. La química entre ellos es muy buena, creo que fueron los indicados para el film. Si esto tiene un error, vuelvo a repetir, es a nivel de desarrollo de trama. Y es que hasta las escenas de acción, las coreografías de las peleas y las persecuciones están muy bien logradas, creo que realmente logra entretener bastante, el cual creo que es el objetivo principal de la película. Honestamente les digo que no aburre a pesar de lo repetido de todo, es un film para ver cuando quieras pasar el tiempo. Como se dice por estos lados: la típica película cotufera.

As it is obvious there is a lot of comedy, Foxx is very good at it, plus the excess of charisma of Cameron Diaz. The chemistry between them is very good, I think they were the right ones for the film. If this has a flaw, I repeat, it is at the level of plot development. Even the action scenes, the choreographies of the fights and chases are very well done, I think it really manages to entertain a lot, which I think is the main objective of the film. Honestly I tell you that it is not boring despite the repetition of everything, it is a film to watch when you want to pass the time. As they say around these parts: the typical “cotufera” movie.

Dura casi 2 horas, un poco larga, pero es porque se centra más de la cuenta en la parte familiar que en la acción. Está en Netflix. Le doy un 5.5/10, si se confirma una segunda parte esto pudiera subir a 6/10. Esperemos que si porque sino será un intento fallido más de la gente de la gran N roja, de esos a los que nos tiene bien acostumbrados. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

It's almost 2 hours long, a bit long, but that's because it focuses more on the family part than the action. It's on Netflix. I give it a 5.5/10, if a sequel is confirmed this could go up to 6/10. Let's hope so because if not it will be another failed attempt from the people of the big red N, one of those to which we have become accustomed. I leave the trailer here.
